Multicomponent Mechanical Characterization of Atherosclerotic Human Coronary Arteries: An Experimental and Computational Hybrid Approach
No full textAtherosclerotic plaque rupture in coronary arteries, an important trigger of myocardial infarction, is shown to correlate with high levels of pressure-induced mechanical stresses in plaques. Finite element (FE) analyses are commonly used for plaque stress assessment. However, the required information of heterogenous material properties of atherosclerotic coronaries remains to be scarce. In this work, we characterized the component-wise mechanical properties of atherosclerotic human coronary arteries. To achieve this, we performed ex vivo inflation tests on post-mortem human coronary arteries and developed an inverse FE modeling (iFEM) pipeline, which combined high-frequency ultrasound deformation measurements, a high-field magnetic resonance-based artery composition characterization, and a machine learning-based Bayesian optimization (BO) with uniqueness assessment. By using the developed pipeline, 10 cross-sections from five atherosclerotic human coronary arteries were analyzed, and the Yeoh material model constants of the fibrous intima and arterial wall components were determined. This work outlines the developed pipeline and provides the knowledge of non-linear, multicomponent mechanical properties of atherosclerotic human coronary arteries.Medical Instruments & Bio-Inspired Technolog

The flag curvature of a submanifold of a Randers–Minkowski space in terms of Zermelo data

To access the final edited and published work see https://doi.org/10.1007/s00025-022-01661-0The main result of this paper is an expression of the flag curvature of a submanifold of a Randers–Minkowski space (V , F ) in terms of invariants related to its Zermelo data (h, W ). More precisely, these invariants are the sectional curvature and the second fundamental form of the positive definite scalar product h and some projections of the wind W. This expression allows for a promising characterization of submanifolds with scalar flag curvature in terms of Riemannian quantities, which, when a hypersurface is considered, seems quite approachable. As a consequence, we prove that any h-flat hypersurface S has scalar F-flag curvature and the metric of its Zermelo data is conformally flat. As a tool for making the computation, we previously reobtain the Gauss–Codazzi equations of a pseudo-Finsler submanifold using anisotropic calculus

“Mujeres blancas” en la Comisión Corográfica: una lectura fabuladora
No full text"Mujeres blancas" (white women) is an image of the Corographic Commission of Agustín Codazzi in Colombia. The image represents, in the mid-nineteenth century, two light-skinned women dressed in European style, and a dark-skinned woman covered by a large mantle, the latter located at the back, and looking in the opposite direction. Speaking of a "fabling reading”, the author uses a narrative methodology that goes beyond the explicit content of the work to bridge gender, class, race and sexuality. This ancient image is used as a "pretext" to interrogate sociocultural dimensions that are still active today. The author questions, particularly, the role of the unnamed black woman in the process of construction of the white femininity and as a disguised erotic figure. She brings her presence as a hidden object from the white men’s desire, as a disobedient servant for the madams of the bourgeois houses, and as the mother-nurse excluded from the first infants’ erotic emotions. The conclusion of the article is in the Colombian society.Mujeres blancas es una imagen de la Comisión Corográfica de Agustín Codazzi en Colombia. Representa, en el medio del siglo XIX, dos mujeres de piel clara vestidas a la europea y una mujer de piel oscura revestida de un gran abrigo, situada detrás y mirando del otro lado. Hablando de una « lectura « fabuladora », la autora designa una metodología narrativa que va más allá del contenido explicito de la obra para cruzar género, clase, raza y sexualidad. Esta imagen del pasado está utilizada como un « pre-texto » para interrogar dimensiones socioculturales siempre activas hoy en día. La autora interroga más particularmente la función de la mujer negra innombrada en la construcción de la feminidad blanca y como figura erótica disimulada. Contempla su presencia como objeto escondido del deseo para los hombres blancos, como criada indisciplinada para las amas de casa y como la madre-nodriza forcluída de las primeras emociones eróticas infantiles. El artículo concluye con una reflexión sobre la performance de raza como performance de la clase dominante en la sociedad colombiana."Mujeres blancas" (mulheres brancas) é uma imagen da Comissão Corográfica de Agustín Codazzi na Colombia. No full textDigitalEn este documento se muestran los trabajos realizados por el autor durante la pasantía; apoyo en oficina y campo en la optimización de conducción y redes de distribución del sistema de acueducto de la cabecera urbana del municipio de Codazzi, además de la elaboración y actualización de documentación técnica-administrativa por iniciativa del Practicante, bajo la dirección del tutor encargado en del contratista ejecutor, ubicada en el municipio de Agustín, la cual posee como fin la transmisión y distribución de agua potable en el departamento del Cesar y algunos municipios de sus alrededores.
Para lograr abastecer la demanda de agua potable, la Empresa debe llevar a cabo una determinada planificación que intensifique y garantice su capacidad, dando lugar a actividades en las cuales se ven involucrados los ingenieros civiles. Entre las acciones ejecutadas en la práctica se encuentra en análisis de diseños técnicos constructivos, estudio de planos y presupuesto inicial, la verificación de actividades realizadas en obra por la interventoría, realización de paquetes técnicos los cuales incluyen informes, cantidades de obra de las distintas estructuras que se encuentran en la red de distribución de agua potable, revisión, verificación y buena ejecución de los pactos plasmados en el contrato del proyecto, entre el departamento de planeación y el contratista ejecutante.
Con la ejecución de la pasantía se lograron alcanzar resultados positivos para la formación como ingeniero civil y personas, comprendiendo cómo funciona una empresa encargada de suministrar un servicio público de distribución (agua potable), compartiendo tiempo e ideas con el personal de la empresa para mejorar la ejecución de las distintas actividades en una construcción, evaluando y tomando decisiones cuando se presenta un inconveniente en obra, momento que sirvió para ratificar el sentido de responsabilidad y compromiso que debe caracterizar a los ingenieros civiles en el desempeño de sus funciones.This document shows the works carried out by the author during the internship; support in office and field in the optimization of conduction and distribution networks of the aqueduct system of the urban head of the municipality of Codazzi, in addition to the preparation and updating of technical-administrative documentation at the initiative of the intern, under the direction of the tutor in charge of the executing contractor, located in the municipality of Agustín, whose purpose is the transmission and distribution of drinking water in the department of Cesar and some surrounding municipalities.
In order to supply the demand for drinking water, the Company must carry out a certain planning that intensifies and guarantees its capacity, giving rise to activities in which civil engineers are involved. Among the actions carried out in practice is the analysis of construction technical designs, study of plans and initial budget, verification of activities carried out on site by the inspector, preparation of technical packages which include reports, quantities of work of the different structures that are in the drinking water distribution network, review, verification and proper execution of the agreements set forth in the project contract, between the planning department and the executing contractor.
With the execution of the internship, positive results were achieved for training as a civil engineer and people, understanding how a company in charge of supplying a public distribution service (drinking water) works, sharing time and ideas with the company's staff to improve the execution of the different activities in a construction, evaluating and making decisions when an inconvenience occurs on site, a moment that served to ratify the sense of responsibility and commitment that should characterize civil engineers in the performance of their duties.Introducción 21

No full textApproaching Colombian cultural policies implies recognizing the various historical configurations around it. As a point of reference, the author Bravo (2014), historically dialogues and traces a line of cultural events. A first approach was constituted in the eighteenth century, in the colonial era with the research in natural history: Botanical expedition of the New Kingdom of Granada since April 30, 1783 sponsored by the Spanish crown and led by the Spanish physician, botanist, mathematician and priest, José Celestino Mutis. Its importance lies not only in the creation of a herbarium of more than 2,000 plants, a collection of plates and an astronomical observatory. This initiative, “was a fundamental milestone in the construction of the concept of nation, since the inventory of resources, and the description of the people contributed to the knowledge of the country and the appropriation of the cultural and social heritage” (Bravo, 2014, p. 50) which was then framed in the creation of the National Library in 1777 and the approach to geographical and cultural studies of the Italian Agustín Codazzi.
Aproximarse a las políticas culturales colombianas implica reconocer las diversas configuraciones históricas entorno a la misma. Como punto de referencia, la autora Bravo (2014), dialoga históricamente y traza una línea de los acontecimientos culturales. Un primer acercamiento se constituyó en el siglo XVIII, en la época colonial con la investigación en historia natural: expedición Botánica del Nuevo Reino de Granada desde el 30 de abril de 1783 auspiciada por la corona española y liderada por el médico, botánico, matemático y sacerdote español, José Celestino Mutis. Su importancia no reside únicamente en la creación de un herbario de más de 2.000 plantas, colección de láminas y de un observatorio astronómico. Esta iniciativa, "fue un hito fundamental en la construcción del concepto de nación, pues el inventario de recursos, y la descripción de las gentes contribuyó al conocimiento del país y a la apropiación del patrimonio cultural y social" (Bravo, 2014, p. 50) que se enmarcó luego en la creación de la Biblioteca Nacional en 1777 y el acercamiento a los estudios geográficos y culturales del italiano Agustín Codazzi
