Effects of cutting angle, edge preparation, and nano-structured coating on milling performance of a gamma titanium aluminide
No full textGamma titanium aluminides are intermetallic alloys. Recently, they have been evaluated as important contenders for structural applications in the automotive and aerospace sectors. This is due to their excellent high-temperature performances and their significantly lower density compared to Nickel-based superalloys. In this paper, an analysis of machinability of a gamma TiAl obtained via an electron beam melting (EBM) process is presented. The effects of tool geometry modifications, in terms of cutting tool angles and cutting edge preparation, were investigated. The reduction of radial rake angle and the drag finishing process for cutting edge preparation resulted in an increase of the tool life of the carbide end mills. Nanogradient tool coatings were also observed to affect tool wear during milling tests, and the results highlight that AlSiTiN coating performs better compared to CrAlSiN coating. A post-coating polishing treatment was also taken into account, and it allowed a further reduction of tool wear. The overall results indicate that the machinability of this difficult-to-cut material can be significantly improved by an adjustment of the cutting edge geometry, and by using an AlSiTiN coating syste

A Human Rights Approach to Environmental Health
No full textThis chapter explores the interface between health and the environment through the human rights prism, focusing on the environmental dimension of the right to health and on the now widely recognized right to a healthy, safe and clean environment. To this end, the chapter intends to offers a comprehensive analysis of the relevant provisions contained in human rights treaties and the obligations stemming therefrom. The review of these legal sources is completed by a critical assessment of the case law produced by regional human rights bodies and their evolutive interpretation of individual rights and corresponding State obligations in this field, with a special focus on the case law of the European Court of Human Rights. The aim of this legal analysis is to evaluate the added value of a human rights approach to environmental health litigation, with a view to best achieving the overarching goal of public health protection from environmental harm. The author highlights that human rights can be used in court as effective tools to protect public health against the adverse effects of environmental degradation and severe pollution. She also stresses that the potential of human rights bodies in the field of environmental health is yet fully unexpressed, but further positive developments towards the protection of collective and intergenerational rights related to the environment and human health can be achieved thanks to the dynamic and evolutive approach adopted by these bodies and through the virtuous circle created by judicial cross-fertilization
Visual and Motor Capabilities of Future Car Drivers

The ability to manage such a complex activity as driving is still developing through adolescence and in early adulthood. The present research investigates the human factors in the driver-car interaction. The experimental method assesses the visual-motor coordination capabilities of future drivers, also in relation to their life styles. The results show that a frequent but good quality physical activity improves visual-motor coordina-tion
A Multitude of Women: The Challenges of the Contemporary Italian Novel
No full textA Multitude of Women looks at the ways in which both Italian literary tradition and external influences have assisted Italian women writers in rethinking the theoretical and aesthetic ties between author, text, and readership in the construction of the novel. Stefania Lucamante discusses the valuable contributions that Italian women writers have made to the contemporary novel and illustrates the relevance of the novelistic examples set by their predecessors. She addresses various discursive communities, reading works by Di Lascia, Ferrante, Vinci, and others with reference to intertextuality and the theories of Elsa Morante and Simone de Beauvoir.
This study identifies a positive deviation from literary and ideological orthodoxy, a deviation that helps give meaning to the Italian novel and to transform the traditional notion of the canon in Italian literature. Lucamante argues that this is partly due to the merits of women writers and their ability to eschew obsolete patterns in narrative while favoring forms that are more attuned to the ever-changing needs of society. She shows that contemporary novels by women authors mirror a shift from previous trends in which the need for female emancipation interfered with the actual literary and aesthetic significance of the novel. A Multitude of Women offers a new epistemology of the novel and will appeal to those interested in women's writing, readership, Italian studies, and literary studies in general

the following nursing schools: University School of Nursing and Midwifery (1946-1951), Public School of Nursing and Midwifery (1949-1951), Public School Of Nursing (1950-1964), Public Medical School of Nursing (1964-1971), Department of Nursing of the Medical Vocational
College No 1 (1971-1981), and Anna Rydlówna Department of Nursing of the Medical Vocational College No 1 (1982-2001). The
school was localised in Cracow, 25 Kopernika St. until 1975, and then was moved to a new location - 12 Michałowskiego St. The aim of the study was the recollection of Stefania Poznańska, PhD, a nurse, teacher, tutor of nursing, author of multiple research studies
and publications, a person dedicated to the development of modern nursing, and last but not least, a great fiend.
The study material is based on a review of personal notes and archive materials gathered by the Institute of Nursing and Midwifery,
Faculty of Health Sciences, Medical Collage, Jagiellonian University in Cracow. Also, personal recollections of multiple encounters
with Stefania Poznańska were taken into account. A biography-historical method as well as the review of documents were applied by
the authors. A significant contribution of Stefania Poznańska to the development of modern nursing must be emphasized. This contribution included her
work for the Programme Committee in Cracow for nursing education curriculum at university level as well as specific detailed programs regarding nursing history and ethical issues in nursing care, and the publication of a series of articles on new concept for teaching nursing
profession. Stefania Poznańska was a person open to another human being

No full textThis volume, entitled Intelligent Human Systems Integration 2020, aims to provide a global forum for introducing and discussing novel approaches, design tools, methodologies, techniques, and solutions for integrating people with intelligent technologies, automation, and artificial cognitive systems in all areas of human endeavor in industry, economy, government, and education. Some of the notable areas of application include, but are not limited to, energy, transportation, urbanization and infrastructure development, digital manufacturing, social development, human health, sustainability, a new generation of service systems, as well as developments in safety, risk assurance, and cybersecurity in both civilian and military contexts. Indeed, rapid progress in developments in the ambient intelligence, including cognitive computing, modeling, and simulation, as well as smart sensor technology, weaves together the human and artificial intelligence and will have a profound effect on the nature of their collaboration at both the individual and societal levels in the near future. As applications of artificial intelligence and cognitive computing become more prevalent in our daily lives, they also bring new social and economic challenges and opportunities that must be addressed at all levels of contemporary society. Many of the traditional human jobs that require high levels of physical or cognitive abilities, including human motor skills, reasoning, and decision-making abilities, as well as training capacity, are now being automated. While such trends might boost economic efficiency, they can also negatively impact the user experience and bring about many unintended social consequences and ethical concerns. The intelligent human systems integration is, to a large extent, affected by the forces shaping the nature of future computing and artificial system development. This book discusses the needs and requirements for the symbiotic collaboration between humans and artificially intelligent systems, with due consideration of the software and hardware characteristics allowing for such cooperation from the societal and human-centered design perspectives, with the focus on the design of intelligent products, systems, and services that will revolutionize future human– technology interactions. This book also presents many innovative studies of ambient artificial technology and its applications, including the human–machine interfaces with a particular emphasis on infusing intelligence into the development of technology throughout the lifecycle development process, with due consideration of user experience and the design of interfaces for virtual, augmented, and mixed reality applications of artificial intelligence. Reflecting on the above-outlined perspective, the papers contained in this volume are organized into seven main sections, including:
