The influence of presurgical vertical control of the dentition on final aesthetics of the face

    No full text
The vertical aesthetic control in orthognatic surgery depends from a wide number of factors. Some of these factors are under the orthodontist’s control, some other under the maxillo-facial surgeon’s control. Because of the complexity of these number of factors author does not believe possible or useful to suggest general outlines of treatment, he only recommends to deeply integrate orthodontist’s and surgeon’s treatment program in every single case. Author presents some clinical cases to illustrate these concepts

Synthesis of new organocatalysts having ortho-anilinyl-ethanol structure Paolo Lupattelli,* Nadia Di Blasio, Lucia Chiummiento, Maria Funicello Department of Chemistry “Antonio Mario Tamburro”, University of Basilicata, v.le Ateneo Lucano 10, 85100 Potenza (Italy). email: [email protected] Increasing numbers of industrial applications are now based on asymmetric organocatalytic reactions, and the "green" aspect of this chemistry coupled with the catalysts’ sustainability, is widely considered for replacing reactions based on metal catalysis.1 Among the various activation methods, aminocatalysis relates to the particular reactivity of the nitrogen. For many years our research group has been concerned with the synthesis of 2,3-diaryloxiranes and their elaboration via regio- and stereoselective ring opening reactions, with the aim to afford, in a simple and immediate way, functionalized 1,2-diarylethanols.2 Recently a general regioselective reductive ring opening reaction was optimized and different enantiopure ortho-anilinyl-phenylethanols were prepared.3 By the use of suitable oxo-nucleophiles and acid catalysts, diastereoisomeric anilinyldiols were also obtained alternatively, in enantiospecific manner. Enantiopure aminoethers 1-2, and aminodiethers 3-4 were prepared starting from enantiopure trans epoxide 5 which were transformed into aminoalcohols 6, aminodiol 7 and dioxolane 8 by original procedure of regio- and stereoselective ring opening reactions. By selective alkylations of anilinyl alcohols recently optimized by our research group, compounds 7 and 8 were easily transformed into final products 1-3 with different substituents R1 and R2. Analogously, dioxolane 8 was elaborated using classical transacetalization reactions and reductions furnishing 4. Results of their efficiency in terms of acceleration and asymmetric induction in enantioselective organocatalytic reactions (aldol reactions, Michael additions, -heteroatom functionalizations of carbonyl) will also be presented. 1) (a) Dalko, P.I. Letture operaiste di Gramsci. Il caso Negri

    No full text
This article aims to analyze the relationship between Antonio Negri and the political and philosophical categories of Antonio Gramsci. It is my intention to resume, from the Sixties of the last century to nowadays, the stragegical uses of Gramsci’s thought by Negri. According to me, we can divide four periods in the theoretical framework of Negri. In the first one, Gramsci is an author incompatible with the workerist strategy of class struggle. In the second one, there is a sort of use of Gramsci against Gramsci. Pointendly, Negri tries to subtract the author of the Prison Notebooks from the prerogatives of the Pci. After the arrest of Negri in the 1979, Gramsci’s figure became more ambiguous and we can find his categories under track in the pages of Negri. Then, also due the closness with Michael Hardt, Gramsci starts to become an unavoidable reference point for both the authors. Therefore, my aim with this essay is to show that, far from being just an opponent, in Negri’s perspective Gramsci is a priviliged partner in the analysis of the present and the theoretical construction of the future

Children’s internalizing and externalizing behaviour: the influence of parenting stress and parenting practices. Background: Research shows that high levels of parenting stress cause child maladjustment. However, many questions are still left unexplored as for the process by which parental stress influences child adjustment. Current debate put forward whether stress plays a direct role or a mediated role by child-rearing practices. This study aims to further verify whether maternal stress has a direct impact or an impact mediated by child-rearing practices on the development of internalizing and externalizing behaviours in children. Methods: Eighty-two mothers of school-age children were administered the Parenting Stress Index-Short Form to evaluate their level of parental stress, the Parenting Practices Questionnaire to measure their childrearing practices and the Child Behaviour Checklist to evaluate their children’s internalizing and externalizing behaviours. The hypothesis of the study was verified by a mediation model of regression (Baron and Kenny, 1986). The predictors were the three PSI-SF parenting dimensions (parental distress, parent-child dysfunctional interaction and difficult child), the mediating variables were the three parenting styles (authoritarian, authoritative and permissive) and the outcome were the internalizing and externalizing behaviours. Results: Results showed a direct relationship between parenting stress and children’s internalizing and externalizing behaviours. In particular, internalizing behaviours were predicted by the parent-child dysfunctional interaction and difficult child factors of parenting stress. For externalizing behaviours, the direct effect emerges for both on the PSI subscale difficult child and for the permissive parenting practice
