Here we show that Lost W can be expressed in terms of internal and external Entropy production, int p and ext p , quantities which enable to write down in a simple way the

No full textIn this issue of The EMBO Journal, Ben-Yaakov et al (2012) explore the contribution of transcription factors (TFs) in directly communicating information about injury between the axon and the nucleus. They show that multiple TFs bind the retrograde molecular motor dynein in injured axons. Focusing on one TF family, the authors reveal that STAT3 is locally translated and activated in injured axons, and then transported retrogradely to the nucleus to promote survival of peripheral sensory neurons

A Concerted Electrochemical and Theoretical Investigation of the Ag/TiO2 nano-heterojunction
No full textSuitably designed nano-heterojunctions are able to enhance synergistic functionalities of different materials yielding to “brave new systems” with innovative and sometimes unexpected physicochemical properties [1]. However, the complete understanding of these devices has to be deeply studied. In this work, a concerted theoretical and electrochemical investigation is proposed to gain insights into a metal-semiconductor interface, namely that created by the silver/anatase hybrid nanocomposite, a promising material for advanced sensing applications [2]. In particular, it provided the first photorenewable and anti-fouling sensor device, enhancing the analytical limits in terms of accuracy, sensitivity, detection limits, and photoactivity [3]. Furthermore, the hybrid material is proven to be extremely robust against aging, showing complete regeneration, also after one-year storage.
The electrochemical/electroanalytical virtues of the Ag/TiO2 junction were evaluated in terms of current densities and reproducibility, providing their explanation at the atomic-scale level and demonstrating how and why the final device can act as silver-cation positive electrode [4]. Moreover, Cyclic Voltammetry and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy were used in combination with periodic plane-wave DFT calculations, giving comparable qualitative but also quantitative results. In particular, we theoretically estimated the overall amount of electron transfer toward the semiconductor side of the interface at equilibrium and suitably designed electrochemical experiments, which strictly agree with the theoretical charge transfer estimates. Moreover, photoelectrochemical measurements and theoretical predictions show the unique permanent charge separation occurring in the device [4].

Attraverso l'analisi di pratiche didattiche centrate sull'inclusione e la cooperazione, l'autore propone strategie per valorizzare le diversità e promuovere il successo formativo di tutti gli studenti, con particolare attenzione ai bisogni educativi speciali. L'articolo sottolinea l'importanza di una progettazione didattica flessibile e orientata alle competenze, capace di rispondere alle sfide educative contemporanee e di costruire contesti scolastici più accoglienti e inclusivi.The article explores the interconnections between inclusive teaching, educational design, and skill development, highlighting how the adoption of cooperative methodologies and the integration of digital technologies can foster more equitable and participatory learning environments. Through the analysis of teaching practices centered on inclusion and cooperation, the author proposes strategies to value diversity and promote the educational success of all students, with particular attention to special educational needs. The article emphasizes the importance of flexible and competency-based educational design, capable of addressing contemporary educational challenges and creating more welcoming and inclusive school context

No full textL'articolo esamina le complesse sfide e le potenzialità intrinseche all'inclusione scolastica delle persone con disabilità, mettendo in luce come, nonostante i significativi progressi normativi e pedagogici, l'inclusione rimanga per molte persone con disabilità un obiettivo ancora lontano e parzialmente raggiunto. Attraverso un’analisi approfondita delle pratiche educative e dei contesti scolastici, l'autore esplora le barriere culturali, strutturali e psicologiche che continuano a ostacolare la piena partecipazione degli studenti con disabilità alla vita scolastica. Viene analizzato come tali barriere non solo limitano l'accesso alle opportunità di apprendimento, ma spesso perpetuano l’esclusione sociale e l’emarginazione. L'articolo si concentra, quindi, su come le strutture scolastiche possano evolversi per affrontare queste sfide, suggerendo un cambiamento di paradigma che parta da una riconsiderazione dei principi di giustizia sociale ed equità.The article examines the complex challenges and inherent potentials of the school inclusion of people with disabilities, highlighting how, despite significant regulatory and pedagogical progress, inclusion remains a goal still distant and partially achieved for many people with disabilities. Through an in-depth analysis of educational practices and school contexts, the author explores the cultural, structural, and psychological barriers that continue to hinder the full participation of students with disabilities in school life. It is analyzed how these barriers not only limit access to learning opportunities but often perpetuate social exclusion and marginalization. The article focuses on how school structures can evolve to address these challenges, suggesting a paradigm shift that begins with a reconsideration of the principles of social justice and equity
