Contributions of Professor V.P. Gudkov to Morphology of Contemporary Serbian Literary Language
В.П. Morphology had a central place in the field of research of contemporary
Serbian literary language in the wide scientific opus of Prof. V.P. Gudkov.
His scientific research was mostly devoted to competitive forms in the noun
paradigm (e.g. vocative and instrumental forms sg. m, genitive pl. etc.), as
well as morpho-phonological phenomena. The author wrote paper on analytical
comparison in the Serbian language very early. Since his students days he
had been interested in syntax of verbs: construction with da (with present and
other tenses; competition and distribution between the construction da +
present and infinitive) future etc. This paper has aim to show contributions of
these kinds of research for the description of Serbian morpho-phonological
system, for standardization and for further monitoring and research of phenomena
that had been under the scientific view of Prof. V.P. Gudkov
Incest v Americke literature 19 stoleti
The subject of this BA thesis is social and political reasons behind the incest fascination in 19th century America. My aim is to investigate the surprisingly common details prevalent in this area of American literature and to find and explain reasons behind their presence. In such stories, due to the fathers' infidelity a young man or women eventually end up in a situation of nearly committing incest with either their father or their own half sibling. Afterwards, the realization of said fact causes misery and often death to both parties involved. The mother's presence plays no role in this kind of novels, as she is either narratively absent or outright dead. This thesis will attempt to prove that abovementioned scenario is not merely a way to attract fame and riches but the representation of fears that plagued the population of New World. The works which will be discussed are Alice Doane's Appeal by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Marian and Lydia, Mentoria; or The young lady's friend by Mrs. Rowson, Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe, Pierre, or the Ambiguities, Herman Melville, The Power of Sympathy:or, the Triumph of Nature by William Hill Brown and Louisa May Alcott's The Marble Woman, or the Mysterious Model. The thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter 1 is the introduction in which I...Předmětem této bakalářské práce jsou společenské a politické příčiny doprovázející fascinaci incestem v Americe 19. století. Probíraná literární díla zahrnují Prosbu Alice Done od Nathaniela Hawthorna, Marian a Lydie, Mentoria, aneb Přítel mladé dámy autorky paní Rowson, Zánik domu Usherů Edgara Allana Poea, Pierre, aneb Dvojznačnosti Hermana Melvilla, Síla soucitu, aneb Triumf přírody Williama Hilla Browna a Mramorová žena, aneb Tajemná modelka Louisy May Alcott. Práce je rozdělena do pěti kapitol. První kapitola představuje úvod, kde předkládám důvody této práce, vymezuji argumentaci a vysvětluji použitou...Ústav anglofonních literatur a kulturDepartment of Anglophone Literatures and CulturesFaculty of ArtsFilozofická fakult

Structure and Regulation of the Mouse ing1 Gene: Three Alternative Transcripts Encode Two PHD Finger Proteins that have Opposite Effects on p53 Function
The human ING1 gene encodes nuclear protein p33ING1, previously shown to cooperate with p53 in cell growth control (Garkavtsev, I., Grigorian, I. A., Ossovskaya, V. S., Chernov, M. V., Chumakov, P. M., and Gudkov, A. V. (1998) Nature 391, 295–298). p33ING1belongs to a small family of proteins from human, mouse, and yeast of approximately the same size that show significant similarity to one another within the C-terminal PHD finger domain and also contain an additional N-terminal region with subtle but reliably detectable sequence conservation. Mouse ing1 is transcribed from three differently regulated promoters localized within a 4-kilobase pair region of genomic DNA. The resulting transcripts share a long common region encoded by a common exon and differ in their 5′-exon sequences. Two transcripts are translated into the same protein of 185 amino acids, the mouse equivalent of the human p33ING1, while the third transcript encodes a longer protein that has 94 additional N-terminal amino acids. Overexpression of the longer protein interferes with the accumulation of p53 protein and activation of p53-responsive promoters after DNA damage. Between the two products ofing1, only the longer one forms a complex with p53 detectable by immunoprecipitation. These results indicate that a single gene, ing1, encodes both p53-suppressing and p53-activating proteins that are regulated by alternative promoters

Perlite for permanent confinement of cesium
We present the potential use of expanded perlite, a metastable amorphous hydrated aluminium silicate, as a permanent medium for the long-term confinement of cesium. The method requires simply a loading by mixing an aqueous cesium nitrate solution and expanded perlite at 300 K followed by densification by sintering. The formation of pollucite, CsAlSi2O6, a naturally occurring mineral phase, upon careful heat treatment is demonstrated by X-ray diffraction. Leaching tests on the resulting glass-ceramics reveal a very low Cs departure of 0.5 mg m−2 d−1
