Development of antenna-coupled metal-insulator-metal diodes for infrared detection

    Get PDF
The long-wavelength infrared (LWIR) band between 7 and 14 µm is significant for thermal imaging purposes because it coincides with the blackbody radiation peak of the human body and a low absorption window in the earth’s atmosphere. Also, at 10 µm wavelength, the earth’s terrestrial radiation is maximized and provides a good opportunity for untapped energy harvesting. These two factors combine to make a very strong need for a low-cost detector that operates at room temperature in this band. Antenna-coupled metal-insulator-metal (ACMIM) diodes are a leading candidate due to their high speed and potential manufacturability on Si substrates. In this work, Ni-NiO-Ni ACMIM diodes are fabricated using a two-step lithography process and an oxygen plasma oxidation. The device is characterized to both have current in the nA range and responsivities nearing 1000pA/W.Submission published under a 24 month embargo labeled 'U of I only', the embargo will last until 2017-08-01The student, Ardy Winoto, accepted the attached license on 2015-07-16 at 10:31.The student, Ardy Winoto, submitted this Thesis for approval on 2015-07-16 at 10:35.This Thesis was approved for publication on 2015-07-17 at 11:08.DSpace SAF Submission Ingestion Package generated from Vireo submission #8494 on 2015-09-29 at 15:00:02Made available in DSpace on 2015-09-29T20:50:06Z (GMT). Development of an optical nor gate transistor laser integrated circuit

    Get PDF
The transistor laser combines the intrinsic switching property of a bipolar transistor and the coherent light output of a laser in a single device, making it uniquely suited for electro-optical integration. Furthermore, with the addition of waveguide structures, a transistor laser integrated circuit is well suited for monolithic logic processing using on-chip optical interconnects. Although there are still many challenges to overcome both on the device level and the integration level, a transistor laser integrated circuit can be an attractive alternative to conventional electrical integrated circuits based on complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology. The subject of this work is the design, process development, and fabrication of a transistor laser integrated circuit in the form of an optical NOR gate to demonstrate optical logic processing using the transistor laser. This work begins with a brief introduction to optical logic processing and why the transistor laser is ideal for this application. Details of the development of a high-speed GaAs photodiode are given to supplement the original transistor laser process with a vertically illuminated optical receiver. The development of the transistor laser optical NOR gate is described, including the design and operating principle as well as the two rounds of fabrication. The methods used to characterize the optical NOR gate are reported, followed by a discussion of the results. Finally, the work is summarized and future improvements to the current process as well as next generation transistor laser integrated circuit concepts are proposed.Submission published under a 24 month embargo labeled 'U of I Access', the embargo will last until 2020-12-01The student, Ardy Winoto, accepted the attached license on 2018-12-04 at 20:06.The student, Ardy Winoto, submitted this Dissertation for approval on 2018-12-04 at 20:11.This Dissertation was approved for publication on 2018-12-05 at 13:16.DSpace SAF Submission Ingestion Package generated from Vireo submission #13211 on 2019-02-07 at 14:22:35Made available in DSpace on 2019-02-07T20:44:23Z (GMT). Get PDF
The Way of the Cross is a central devotional practice in Catholicism, yet its traditional visual representations often fail to resonate with younger generations. This study explores how contemporary art, specifically a multilayered visual approach, can revitalize engagement with the Via Dolorosa. Based on a devotional book, “The Passion” by James Traynor, which presents each station from a character’s perspective, this design project transforms textual testimonies into layered visual interpretations. The study applies Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory to analyze character motivations and structure visual storytelling. The design methodology follows an exploratory model consisting of pre-design research, conceptual development, and final production. The design offers a new way to experience the Way of the Cross, encouraging personal reflection through layered visuals and character-based storytelling

T cell self-tolerance is thought to involve peripheral tolerance and negative selection, involving apoptosis of autoreactive thymocytes. However, evidence supporting an essential role for negative selection is limited. Loss of Bim, a Bcl-2 BH3-only protein essential for thymocyte apoptosis, rarely results in autoimmunity on the C57BL/6 background. Mice with T cell-specific over-expression of Bcl-2, that blocks multiple BH3-only proteins, are also largely normal. The nuclear receptor Nur77, also implicated in negative selection, might function redundantly to promote apoptosis by associating with Bcl-2 and exposing its potentially pro-apoptotic BH3 domain. Here, we report that T cell-specific expression of a Bcl2 BH3 mutant transgene results in enhanced rescue of thymocytes from negative selection. Concomitantly, Treg development is increased. However, aged BH3 mutant mice progressively accumulate activated, autoreactive T cells, culminating in development of multi-organ autoimmunity and lethality. These data provide strong evidence that negative selection is crucial for establishing T cell tolerance

Bedog Cikeruh is a cultural heritage originating from Jatinangor District, Sumedang Regency (formerly Jatinangor named Cikeruh). At this time the knowledge of making Bedog Cikeruh is in a critical state. The author found that in the area around Jatinangor, there is only one blacksmith who is still actively producing Bedog Cikeruh. The organization is called Dangiang Pusaka Domas. Dangiang Pusaka Domas is an informal family-based organization. Dangiang Pusaka Domas blacksmith is located in Maruyung Hamlet, Kutamandiri Village, Tanjungsari District, Sumedang Regency. Through this article, the author intends to present data from the point of view of Knowledge Management, how knowledge is shared through knowledge transmission in the Dangiang Pusaka Domas Blacksmith based on the following research questions: (1) What is knowledge transmission? (2) How does the knowledge transmission process take place in the Dangiang Pusaka Domas blacksmith? To obtain the necessary data, the author collected data by conducting an in-depth interview of the source of information obtained based on purposive sampling techniques. The author's findings show that: knowledge transmission is part of the knowledge sharing process. This concept refers to social interaction in which there is a transfer of knowledge, experience, and skills from one individual to another. Furthermore, some conclusions about the transmission of knowledge in the context of Dangiang Pusaka Domas, as an informal organization are: (1) The process of knowledge transmission, in this case, blacksmith knowledge, is carried out for generations in families vertically. (2) The process of knowledge transmission is carried out through structured participation and guidance. (3) The selection of individuals to pass on knowledge is generally in the family lineage, but the decline in knowledge focuses more on internal motivations and personal empirical experience. (4) The process of transmitting knowledge does not involve documenting or converting tacit knowledge into explicit knowledge. Knowledge is passed down through direct experience and practice, without written record-keeping. (5) The family is open to receiving individuals from outside the family who wish to learn blacksmithing knowledge
