Marcelo dascal and the literal meaning debates
What role does literal meaning play in people’s understanding of indirect and figurative language? Scholars from many disciplines have debated this issue forseveral decades. This chapter describes these debates, especially focusing on the arguments between the author and Marcelo Dascal. I suggest that Dascal’s defense of “moderate literalism” may have some validity, contrary to some of my earlier arguments against this point of view. Marcelo Cohen’s Work : Between Fantastic Sociology and Fictional Geography
Cette thèse étudie les notions de géographie imaginaire et de sociologie fantastique dans l’œuvre de Marcelo Cohen (Buenos Aires, 1951). Le corpus de travail comprend l’ensemble de la production de fiction narrative de l’auteur (contes, nouvelles et romans en une vingtaine d’ouvrages) entre son premier recueil de récits, Lo que queda (1972), et son roman Balada (2011). La thèse est organisée en trois parties : la première (« Marcelo Cohen et son œuvre. Perspectives théoriques et méthodologiques ») propose une présentation de l’auteur et de son œuvre et un bilan théorique et pratique des notions de géographie imaginaire et de sociologie fantastique ; la deuxième (« Écrire l’espace ») analyse la construction de l’espace dans le corpus choisi dans une double démarche chronologique et figurative ; la troisième (« Littérature et société ») se penche sur les manifestations des dimensions idéologiques, sociales et politiques, et sur les relations entre l’individu et la société dans les ouvrages de Marcelo Cohen. Le travail s’achève par une réflexion globale sur la poétique et l’esthétique de l’auteur argentin.This thesis considers such concepts as fictional Geography and fantastic Sociology in Marcelo Cohen’s work (Buenos Aires, 1951).The body of this research includes all the narrative fiction by this author (some twenty tales, short stories and novels in total), between his first collection of stories, Lo que queda (1972), and his novel Balada (2011).Our thesis develops three domains : the first one (« Marcelo Cohen and his work, a theoretical and methodological outlook ») introduces the author and his work, along with a theoretical and practical evaluation of such concepts as fictional Geography and fantastic Sociology ; the second one (« Space in writing ») analyzes the make of space in the selected books, in a dual approach : both chronological and representational ; the last one (« Literature and society ») addresses the expressions of ideological, sociological and political dimensions, plus the relationship between a particular person and his/her society in Marcelo Cohen’s works. This research ends with a global consideration of poetry and estheticism in the work of our Argentinean author

Valor pronóstico de la función ventricular evaluada mediante ecocardiografía con speckle trackingen pacientes con sepsis
Introducción. El valor pronóstico de la disfunción ventricular en pacientes con sepsis es desconocido. La
ecocardiografía con speckle tracking (ST) es un método nuevo y sensible para valorar la función ventricular,
capaz de detectar la disfunción ventricular no observada por ecocardiografía convencional. Nosotros evaluamos
los valores de ST en pacientes con sepsis y su impacto en la mortalidad.
Material y métodos. Entre Abril de 2015 y Marzo de 2016, pacientes ≥ 18 años fueron admitidos en la terapia
intensiva con sepsis y sin cardiopatía conocida y prospectivamente evaluados por ecocardiografía transtorácica.
La función ventricular izquierda fue cuantificada por métodos convencionales y ST. Se evaluó la mortalidad
a los 30 días.
Resultados. Se incluyeron 18 pacientes, con una mortalidad a los 30 días del 27,7%. La fracción de eyección
estimada por el método de Simpson no difirió entre vivos y muertos; sin embargo, la función ventricular
izquierda por ST en 4 cámaras fue menor para los pacientes que fallecieron (vivos: -17% ± 2; muertos: -14%
± 4; p=0,028). No encontramos diferencias significativas en las proyecciones de 2 cámaras (-16 ± 3 vs -14 ±
5; p=0,182), eje largo apical (-17 ± 2 vs -15 ± 4; p=0,434) o con strain global (-17 ± 2 vs -14 ± 4; p=0,118).
Conclusiones. En pacientes con sepsis, la función ventricular evaluada con ST en la proyección de 4 cámaras
fue más sensible en detectar disfunción ventricular que con el método de Simpson, y también predijo mejor

The present work analyzes the forms that Science fiction takes in Marcelo Cohen´s narrative. By outlining certain characteristics of the genre, it is considered the ways how these are reformulated according to the Romantic epistemological paradigm that the author picks up, blending it with concepts of quantum and chaos theories, to postulate a model of Realism. Within this context, the initial analysis of the author´s self-fashioning and essays is useful to think the proposal of a singular ontology in his fictions
Marcelo Cohen. Las fundaciones de la ciencia ficción
El presente trabajo analiza la forma que asume la ciencia ficción en la obra de Marcelo Cohen. A partir de un recorrido por ciertas particularidades del género se reflexiona acerca de cómo éstas se reformulan de acuerdo con el paradigma epistemológico romántico que el autor retoma, y que conjuga con conceptos de la cuántica y de las teorías del caos, en vistas de la postulación de un modelo de realismo. En este contexto, el análisis inicial de las autofiguraciones del autor y de sus ensayos sirve para pensar la propuesta de una ontología singular en sus ficciones.The present work analyzes the forms that Science fiction takes in Marcelo Cohen´s narrative. O ensaio pretende acompanhar a construção da assinatura de Marcelo Mirisola, comentando alguns aspectos de seu repertório ficcional apostando na hipótese de que o cinismo que se cola à construção da identidade autoral é um impasse à transformação de sua assinatura, de seu nome de autor. A partir de Joana a contragosto o autor tenta um turning point através da metaficcionalização de sua própria condição como escritor no cenário literário contemporâneo expondo as aporias de inscrição de uma marca de autoria. Tal como disse Ricardo Lísias no comentário que fez à Joana, a Contragosto, é possível capturar um movimento de deslocamento da voz autoral na direção de uma dicção mais melancólica e que põe a descoberto as estratégias de ficcionalização da própria figura autoral nas narrativas, as imagens de escritor tematizadas na ficção. Nesse sentido, então, o presente ensaio pretende tentar capturar elementos recorrentes nas narrativas, laboriosamente reiterados que apontam para a consolidação de uma obra e por outro lado, quando metaficcionalizados, indicam a exaustão e a aporia de uma voz narrativa já confirmada.This essay aims to trace the construction of the «signature» of Marcelo Mirisola, commenting on some aspects of his fictional repertoire and focusing on the hypothesis that the cynicism attached to the process of construction of this authorial identity is an obstacle to the transformation of his «signature», his name as an author. Esta pesquisa tem por objeto de estudo o fazer musical aplicado no contexto da educação empresarial. Foi investigado em que medida este processo constitui um caminho de conhecimento de si e conhecimento do outro, bem como procurou-se compreender seu potencial, paradoxos e peculiaridades, tanto para a educação empresarial quanto para a psicologia social. Nesta pesquisa, foi trilhado um caminho essencialmente fenomenológico, no qual optou-se, primeiramente, por apresentar e descrever o contexto de trabalho e, em seguida, descrever a experiência vivida em uma série de oficinas musicais, realizadas com trabalhadores de três empresas. Os dados da pesquisa foram colhidos sob forma de entrevistas, diários de campo dos participantes e gravações em vídeo das oficinas. Uma vez compilados, os registros relevantes foram organizados em categorias, a fim de permitir uma análise dos significados emergentes no processo. Os resultados encontrados foram, então, discutidos sob o aporte teórico e reflexões acerca: da musicalidade, da arte como caminho de conhecimento, do trabalho educativo no meio empresarial, e das questões da percepção da música, de si mesmo e do outro. Por fim, indaga-se sobre o potencial papel do fazer musical tanto no âmbito do desenvolvimento do indivíduo quanto na dinâmica das interações sociais e de trabalho no mundo empresarial contemporâneoMusic-making applied in a business educational context is the object of this research. We investigated to what extent this process constitutes a path to the knowledge of oneself and to the knowledge of the other. We tried as well to understand its potentials, paradoxes and peculiarities for a business education process. This study was based on a essentially phenomenological approach. First it is presented and described the work context followed by the description of the lived experience made in a series of musical workshops, with workers of three companies. The survey data was collected through interviews, field diaries of the participants and video recordings of the workshops. Once compiled, the relevant records have been organized into categories to allow an analysis of the emergent meanings in the process. The results are then discussed under theoretical support and ideas about musicality, art as a way of knowledge, educational work in the business environment and questions of music perception and perception of oneself and of the other. Finally we ask questions about the potential role of music-making both in the individual development as well as in the social dynamics and work interactions in a contemporary business worl
Prognostic value of ventricular function assessed by speckle tracking echocardiography in patients with sepsis
Background. The prognostic value of left ventricular dysfunction in patients with sepsis is unknown. Speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) is a novel, sensitive method for assessing ventricular function, capable of unmasking myocardial dysfunction not detected with conventional echocardiography. We assessed STE in patients with sepsis to determine whether it is associated with mortality. Material and methods. Between April 2015 and March 2016, patients aged ≥18 years admitted to the intensive care unit with the diagnosis of sepsis and without previous cardiomyopathy were prospectively imaged using transthoracic echocardiography. Left ventricular function was assessed using conventional methods and STE. Mortality was assessed over 30 days. Results. Eighteen patients were included and the 30-day mortality rate was 27.7%. The ejection fraction (EF) estimated using the Simpson method was similar between patients who died and those who survived; however, the ventricular function determined using STE in the 4-chamber view was significantly lower in patients who died (-14% ± 5 vs -17% ± 2, p=0.028). No significant differences were observed in the 2-chamber view (alive: -16 ± 3, dead: -14 ± 5, p=0.182), long apical axes view (alive: -17 ± 2, dead: -15 ± 4, p=0.434) or global strain (alive: -17 ± 2, dead: -14 ± 4, p=0.118). Conclusion. In patients with sepsis, ventricular function assessed with STE in the 4-chamber view was more sensitive than EF in detecting dysfunction and better predicted 30-day mortality.
