Prevalence of Pre-Diabetic State among Medical Students of Muhammad Medical College
Introduction: Diabetes is one of the most prevalent disease in Pakistan. Pre-Diabetes is the predisposition to diabetes. This study was conducted to identify the high-risk pre-diabetes individuals and the associated risk factors.
Methodology: A cross section al, descriptive study was conducted among medical students of Muhammad Medical College, Mirpurkhas. Total 100 were identified by using convenience sampling technique, after taking informed consent. WHO recommended procedure Oral Glucose tolerance test were performed and a face to face interview was conducted to collect information to identify associated risk factor by using closed ended pre- tested questionnaire. Data was entered and analyzed by using SPSS version 16.
Result: In total study sample of 100 patients; common age group was 20-22 years (n=49, 49%) and majority were male (n=56, 56%). Family history was present in 64% of study sample. Although all participants were disease free, results of oral glucose tolerance test showed that12% were at pre-diabetic state (FBS>110 &RBS>140). Among these 12 participants, 5(41.7%) were overweight, 4(33.3%) were obese, while 3(25%) were having normal BMI. Among this cohort of prediabetic, 75% have positive family history of diabetes, 50% spend 2-5 hour free with no physical activities, 90.9% take junk food, 91.7% take stress about their family/study and 50% have family history of obesity.
Conclusion: Results of current study showed 12% prevalence of pre-diabetic among medical students. The family history of diabetes, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, stress and use of junk foods are associated risk factors. As a preventive measure, health education should be given to all medical students particularly high-risk group.
Key Words: Pre-diabetic state, Oral glucose tolerance test, Overt Diabetes

Personality traits and investors risk behaviour: moderating role of financial literacy / Muhammad Akhtar and Muhammad Umair Malik
The aim of the study is to examine whether personality traits are associated with investors trading risk behaviour in stock markets. Furthermore, it establishes the association of financial literacy by employing the moderated multiple regression analysis. The findings reveal that personality traits have significant influence on investors risk behaviour while financial literacy modifies the basic relationships between personality traits and investors risk behaviour. The findings also conclude that behavioural impact was not only predetermined by individuals' genetic traits but also influenced by financial literacy. The current study provides valuable insights for investors and adamant grounds for future research. The two-fold role of individuals’ personality in case of gains and losses can be of interest for researchers in the future
Evaluation of coronary stents and atherosclerosis employing optical coherence tomography and computational fluid modelling
© 2017 Dr Muhammad Umair HayatAtherosclerotic coronary artery disease (CAD) is a major health burden worldwide and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is an established treatment for this condition. Both PCI and invasive imaging techniques have evolved tremendously over the past few decades. Limitations of angiography were largely overcome, first by intra-vascular ultrasound, and then, optical coherence tomography (OCT), which is now recognized as the most sensitive and validated tool to examine the vessel lumen, plaque composition and stent-vessel wall interface.
This thesis centers on randomized, OCT trials of coronary atherosclerosis and stents. In-vivo, comparative studies of drug eluting stents were conducted to directly observe their mechanical and healing characteristics. Results of these trials subsequently laid foundation for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) experiments and some illuminating observations were made around the effects of stent malapposition on intra coronary flow dynamics. It is the information of this kind that guides scientists to refine stent designs and clinicians, to improve procedural outcomes
Shunt DC motor speed control methods using MATLAB: article / Umair Rafeeq Muhammad
This paper describes the simulation of DC motor speed control using Matlab Simulink. The three most common speed control methods are filed resistance control, armature voltage control, and armature resistance control. The interface program is designed so that the user can vary all the parameters of the circuits using the program and display the various characteristics
Shunt DC motor speed control methods using MATLAB / Umair Rafeeq Muhammad
This thesis focused on three different methods of speed control of Shunt DC motor. The speed of Shunt DC motor was analysed by mean of MATLAB Simulink. The three methods used in this project are field resistance control, armature resistance control and armature voltage control. The torque speed characteristics of Shunt DC motor was analysed with different methods of control mentioned. MATLAB GUI was incorporated in the project to display results obtained. MATLAB GUI is user friendly and a very helpful tool to demonstrate the speed change of Shunt DC motor. The Shunt DC motor simulations were successfully developed and the MATLAB GUI program had been successfully designed
The Complete Muhammad Ali
Including material and photographs not included in most of the 100 other books about the champion, Ishmael Reed's The Complete Muhammad Ali is more than just a biography-it is a fascinating portrait of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st. An honest, balanced portrayal of Ali, the book includes voices that have been omitted from other books. It charts Ali's evolution from Black Nationalism to a universalism, but does not discount the Nation of Islam and Black Nationalism's important influence on his intellectual development. Filipino American author Emil Guillermo speaks about how "The Thrilla' In Manila" brought the Philippines into the 20th century. Fans of Muhammad Ali, boxing fans, and those interested in modern African American history and the Nation of Islam will be fascinated by this biography by an accomplished American author.Intro -- DEDICATION -- INTRODUCTION -- The Curious History of an Icon -- CHAPTER 1 -- CHAPTER 2 -- CHAPTER 3 -- CHAPTER 4 -- CHAPTER 5 -- CHAPTER 6 -- CHAPTER 7 -- Did the Secret Government Fear a U.S. Muslim/Overseas Muslim Alliance? -- CHAPTER 8 -- CHAPTER 9 -- The Break Between the Prophet and his Disciple -- CHAPTER 10 -- CHAPTER 11 -- CHAPTER 12 -- The GOAT (Greatest Of All Time): Ali or Louis? -- CHAPTER 13 -- The Nation of Islam, the Mob, Showdowns in Canada and Sonny Liston -- CHAPTER 14 -- CHAPTER 15 -- The Taunts: Marketing or Racism? -- CHAPTER 16 -- CHAPTER 17 -- CHAPTER 18 -- CHAPTER 19 -- Boxing and the Brain -- CHAPTER 20 -- Ali's Feet -- CHAPTER 21 -- Mr. Dick -- CHAPTER 22 -- CHAPTER 23 -- The Opening Ceremonies, November 2005 -- CHAPTER 24 -- December 2005, Las Vegas -- CHAPTER 25 -- CHAPTER 26 -- June 16, 2004 -- CHAPTER 27 -- CHAPTER 28 -- CHAPTER 29 -- Aix-en-Provence -- CHAPTER 30 -- Ali as a Black Nationalist -- San Francisco, January 2004 Black Liberation Book Fair -- CHAPTER 31 -- January 31, 2004 -- CHAPTER 32 -- October 2005, Chicago -- CHAPTER 33 -- Why Ali remained with Elijah instead of following Malcolm -- CHAPTER 34 -- CHAPTER 35 -- February 4, 2006, Oakland, California -- CHAPTER 36 -- Like Zeus Descending from Mount Olympus -- CHAPTER 37 -- CHAPTER 38 -- Tuesday, February 28, 2006, New York -- CHAPTER 39 -- Bigger Than Boxing -- CHAPTER 40 -- Tribes Gallery, New York, April 2006 -- CHAPTER 41 -- June 2006, Louisville, Kentucky -- CHAPTER 42 -- CHAPTER 43 -- CHAPTER 45 -- Bad Company -- CHAPTER 46 -- Coxson, A Very Charming Rogue -- CHAPTER 47 -- Ali and the largest embezzlement scheme in Wells Fargo history -- CHAPTER 48 -- CHAPTER 49 -- "Lonnie is a stabilizing force."-Harry Belafonte -- October 29, 2006 -- CHAPTER 50 -- Abdul Rahman -- CHAPTER 51 -- CHAPTER 52 -- CHAPTER 53How Will Ali Be Remembered?
