Comparação clínica e tomográfica de implantes dentários instalados de forma convencional e virtualmente guiados
TCC (graduação) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Centro de Ciências da Saúde. Odontologia.
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Comparative surface detail reproduction for elastomeric impression materials: Study on reproducibility performance
For dental impression of a prepared tooth, the goal is a void-free negative representation from which an accurate cast of a tooth and its surrounding tissue can be reproduced. This in-vitro study assessed and compared the reproduction accuracies of surface detail obtained with three different dental elastomeric impression materials: vinyl polysiloxane (VPS), vinyl polyether silicone (VPES), and polyether (PE). A stainless-steel model with two abutments was used, with impressions taken 10 times for each material, for 20 abutment impressions per group, using a two-phase, one-step technique (heavy body/light body). The impressions were removed and assessed for numbers of enclosed voids and open voids visible on the surface. The defect frequency was 95% for impressions with the VPS and VPES materials, and 30% for the PE material. No significant differences were seen for number of impressions with defects for VPS versus VPES. Significant differences were seen for VPS and VPES versus the PE material (P <.05). No significant differences were seen for the defect type distributions across these three impression materials. The PE impression material showed better accuracy for reproduction of surface detail of these dental impressions compared to the VPS and VPES impression materials
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Analysis of the effects of mesh reduction of digital files on the surface area and volume accuracy of complete dentures using an intraoral scanner
BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to determine the accuracy of an intraoral scanner to digitally duplicate complete dentures and analyze the effects of mesh reduction of digital files on the surface area and volume accuracy of complete dentures, in vitro. METHODS: A mandibular complete denture was scanned by a desktop scanner to create a digital STL reference file (control). Fifteen identical scans were created by using an intraoral scanner and exported as STL files (test group). These 15 files were saved at 100% of the original scan resolution then reduced to 75%, 50%, 25%, and 10% of their original quality. These 75 scans were statistically analyzed by calculating The Hausdorff Distance (HD) and Dice Similarity Coefficients (DSC) to assess the variation between the mean reduced intraoral scanner files test and the control desktop scanner file and eventual inconsistencies. The volumes of the reduced mesh files were also compared with the 100% resolution intraoral mesh files to evaluate precision and trueness of the intraoral scanner. RESULTS: Reduced mesh files of 10%, 25%, 50%, 75% of the original scan yielded a percentage similarity average of 99.7%, indicating a very high precision value for the intraoral scanner. Also, the volumes of each associated mesh reduction slightly decreased with non-statistically significant results. CONCLUSIONS: This study concluded that the chosen intraoral scanner for this study provided very high trueness (98.34%) and precision (99.7%), and also the volumes of reduced mesh files slightly decreased but were not statistically significant
Clinical Applications and Efficacy of Cyanoacrylates in Oral Surgery and Periodontology: A Scoping Review
Background and Objectives: Cyanoacrylate (CA) tissue adhesives have gained increasing attention as alternatives to sutures in oral surgery and periodontology. The objective of this scoping review is to assess their clinical applications and effectiveness in wound closure and postoperative management. Materials and Methods: The review was conducted following the JBI methodology and PRISMA-ScR guidelines. A comprehensive search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science to identify randomized controlled trials published between 2015 and 2025 evaluating the use of CAs in oral surgery and periodontal procedures. Results: A total of 19 studies were included. Cyanoacrylate adhesives demonstrated comparable or superior outcomes to other wound healing strategies in terms of operative time, postoperative pain reduction, and early wound healing. Their use was particularly beneficial in free gingival grafts and palatal donor site management. However, the findings across studies were not always consistent, and some trials did not report statistically significant differences. The use of long-chain CA formulations is associated with minimal toxicological risk, though these adhesives demonstrate intrinsic hemostatic and antimicrobial effects. Conclusions: Cyanoacrylate tissue adhesives represent a valid alternative to sutures in several dental surgical contexts, especially in procedures involving mucogingival grafts. Further high-quality clinical studies are needed to clarify their long-term outcomes and broaden their indications in dentistry
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
