Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
COMPETITIVE STRENGTH AND ITS IMPACT TOWARD ACHIEVING SOMPANY’S PERFORMANCE BASED ON BALANCED SCORECARD APPROACH IN THE FURNITURE INDUSTRY IN CENTRAL MINAHASA REGENCY
The Balanced scorecard translates the company’s mission and strategies into a complete set of measurements which provide the framework for measurements and strategic management system. This study (research) aims at analyzing the simultaneous affects from the variables of competitive strength, that is, delivery, value, flexibility, and innovation toward the company’s performance achievement based on Balanced Scorecard approach. This study is the explanatory study that explains the causes of relation ship among variables through hypothetical tests. The population in this study are small, medium, and big-scale furniture industries which are export – oriented and are also registered at the office of industry, Trade, cooperative and investment of central Minahasa. The determination of samples in this study is by using purposive sampling method, which means that the determining of samples is by considering certain criteria that are decided by the researcher (s) toward the objects which are suitable for the objective of the study. The results of the study show that the variables of competitive strength, namely delivery, value, flexibility, and simultancous innovation affect the achieving of company’s performance based on Balanced scorecard approach in export – oriented furniture industry in the regency of central Minahasa. STRESS AND COMPENSATION IMPACT ON WORK PRODUCTIVITY OF FAMILY PLANNING COUNSELING IN TOMOHON, NORTH SULAWESI
Target development in the field of human resources today is the achievement of the quality of human resources and the people of Indonesia were developed in an atmosphere that is peaceful and happy. The increased importance of human resources for the environment is constantly changing. In the management of human resources is required philosophy that not only recognizes the importance of employees as individuals but also as an important element of an organization. Human resources in the company should be managed professionally in order to realize a balance between the needs of employees with the demands and capabilities of the organization. This balance is a key element of an organization in order to develop a productive and reasonable. Stress and compensation is one of the important problems in the maintenance function of human resources, compensation for stress and can be a driving force and motivation to increase employee productivity at the same time an obstacle to achieve employee productivity. The first aim of this study was to determine the effect simultaneously between stress and compensation to labor productivity Extension Family Planning in Tomohon. Second, to determine the effect of partially between stress and compensation to labor productivity in the Extension Family Planning in Tomohon. Third, to find out which of the stress and compensate the dominant influence on the productivity of Extension Family Planning in Tomohon. Kind of explanatory research used in this study involving 52 respondents in the sample of 112 employees Extension Family Planning registered as a civil servant in Tomohon North Sulawesi province. The results of multiple regression analysis showed that stress work environment, stress individual, organizational stress, stress extra organization and incentives and the value of accreditation simultaneously affect the productivity of Extension Family Planning in Tomohon. Through partial regression is known that stress has a significant effect on work productivity Extension Family Planning in Tomohon. Based on the results of this study, also showed that the compensation is the dominant variable in influencing labor productivity Extension Family Planning in Tomohon North Sulawesi province. CAREER DEVELOPMENT EFFECTS ON PERFORMANCE OF YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS IN KECAMATAN PINELENG
Entrepreneurs were the city who were directly involved in running their business activities. Therefore the entrepreneurs must pay attention to the full in diligently efforts that have them. To create entrepreneurs need to do that then the career development them, so they can improve their performance they are and expand their businesses. It is certainly in line with growing competition the efforts of young entreprenuers appeared not with the exception of Kecamatan Pineleng, where there are issues involving ± 250 young entrepreneurs who dabbles in a whole variety of different business.
But, in the time that passes and the young wirausaha-wirausaha emerging there are some phenomena arising in the entrepreneurial competitive this, where the young entrepreneurial was not aware of competition is, they are not aware that their business only diligently course, not undergo development.
The purpose of he did this research is to analyze and assess and to develop a variable and instrument to identify the influence of career development of the performance of young entrepreneurs in Kecamatan Pineleng.
Included in this study were 250 respondents the young entrepreneurial in Kecamatan Pineleng using linear regression multiple analysis. These findings gathered in this research and development career have an positive and significant on performance young entrepreneurs in Kecamatan Pineleng.
