Bacteria use structural imperfect mimicry to hijack the host interactome

    No full text
Bacteria use protein-protein interactions to infect their hosts and hijack fundamental pathways, which ensures their survival and proliferation. Hence, the infectious capacity of the pathogen is closely related to its ability to interact with host proteins. Here, we show that hubs in the host-pathogen interactome are isolated in the pathogen network by adapting the geometry of the interacting interfaces. An imperfect mimicry of the eukaryotic interfaces allows pathogen proteins to actively bind to the host's target while preventing deleterious effects on the pathogen interactome. Understanding how bacteria recognize eukaryotic proteins may pave the way for the rational design of new antibiotic molecules.Funding: Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (MEC): Marc Torrent RYC-2012-09999; Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (MEC): Marc Torrent SAF2015-72518-EXP; Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (MEC): Marc Torrent SAF2017-82158-R; European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID): Marc Torrent ESCMID-201

    El torrent de Muntanya

    No full text
It crosses the land of the Possessió de Muntanya, where it forms a gorge in a spectacular karstic area just before finally opening into the Vall d’en Marc where it heads towards the village of Pollença. The torrent follows for a good part of route of the ancient Lluc track, which links the Santuari and the cited village. At the same time and to complete the description of the landscape we present the survey of two springs: the Font de Muntanya and the Font de s’Hort Nou, which feed a series of channals and farmland

The forgotten torrent : the spasmodic nature of the « Torrent du Lagal » in the commune of Perles-le-Castelet, 1771-1986. The Ariège valley between Tarascón and Ax-les-Thermes, has experienced an intense torrential activity : this is proven in the archives from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, and traces of it can be found in the stratification of alluvial cones. The history established from these sources shows a cyclical pattern of torrent phenomena, which are concentrated in genuine erosive crises at the end of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The Torrent du Lagal, at Perles-le-Castelet reflects this history of hydrological disasters : it has suffered about fifteen torrential crises in two centuries and it has a sizeable cone with a stratigraphy that describes, through a depth of several meters, the alternate phases of calm and crisis. After a lull of 70 years, the torrent, which had been somewhat forgotten, once again, made known its menacing presence in 1985 (as did several other torrents) in a number of villages and along a main road. Antoine Jean-Marc. UKMARC AMC: Draft Rev 4.0: UK MARC format for archives and manuscripts control (UK MARC AMC)

    No full text
This draft is the first attempt to establish a UK MARC specifically for Archives and Manuscripts Control since the British Library indicated that it would countenance such extensions to the national UK MARC format. In order to keep consistency with the general UK MARC format, standard UK MARC subject fields are not included in this document, since they should be taken from the latest version of the UK MARC manual. {A note of them should perhaps be included in UK MARC AMC.} {NB Text in braces is intended to be explanatory material for readers of this draft}. Certain other fields have not been included that might occasionally be used in the cataloguing of archival materials but would generally only be used for such materials in organizations which were combining archive databases with library databases. This MARC version is intended for use with descriptions of archive or anuscript material that follow, or fit, the traditional style of cataloguing: we assume that these will normally relate to paper or parchment originals. It is not intended for use with descriptions of other kinds of material. For these, fields may be drawn from the appropriate UK MARC document. MARC versions for use with archives in special formats should be developed, in order to complete the full range of facilities available to archivists and curators

An outlook on the Spanish pensions and their recent reforms

This research project aims at establishing a global vision of the evolution of the Spanish Pension System in light of the measures of adjust recently applied and under the expectation of new reforms being approved in the forthcoming years in response to the different causes that threaten the sustainability of the system. The effectivity of these last measures will be studied; additionally, they will be compared and contrasted with those imposed in most of the developed countries in order to offer potential additional adjustments or alternatives to those already applied. Finally, I present an overview of further challenges to the pension system. The conclusions are that the unsustainability problem is real and will require future changes in the system’s design in line with the already made so far, which most of the European countries follow. Nonetheless, it is hard to determine an equilibrium between efficiency and equity, and therefore the measures should involve the private sector, which is marginal in Spain, in order to guarantee that the replacement rates allow –to some extent- the preservation of the standard of living of the pensioners
