Letter from Masayoshi Fuchita to Kumataro Fuchita
A letter from Masayoshi Fuchita to Kumataro Fuchita. He has been making a living by farming before the war but planning to start a business. He writes about the currency exchange rate from US dollar to Japanese yen and asks for a loan from Kumataro Fuchita. The Akamine and Fuchita Family Papers include letters, certificates, photographs, scrapbooks, high school yearbooks, and other materials related to the Akamine, Fuchita, and Yasumura families. Subjects in the collection include the Manzanar and Rohwer incarceration camps, Koyasan Buddhist Temple, Buddhism, World War II, and Japanese American families, and other topics
Three-layered multicolor organic electroluminescent device
This article may be downloaded for personal use only. Any other use requires prior permission of the author and AIP Publishing. This article appeared in Masayoshi Yoshida, Akihiko Fujii, Yutaka Ohmori, and Katsumi Yoshino, Appl. Phys. Lett. 69, 734 (1996) and may be found at https://doi.org/10.1063/1.117874.We have realized a three‐layered multicolor organic electroluminescent device utilizing poly (9,9‐dihexylfluorene) and perylene derivatives as emission layers, with diamine derivatives as an electron blocking layer. Emission colors could be selected either blue or red by changing the polarity of the applied voltage. By driving with an ac biased electric field, both emission colors were observed and the intensity ratio of each emission color was modulated by the frequency of the applied ac field
Trajectoires d'évolution de la sous-traitance japonaise
The Japanese system of subcontracting is even more complex than is generally thought. From a sometimes cavalier comparative perspective, the author, a spe¬ cialist in the area, reveals the recent trajectories of evolution observed in sectors associated with advanced technologies, particularly in SMEs. The classic trajectory is examined : some subcontractors (who in Japan have virtually exclusive ties with one customer) evolve from their position as sub-assembler, for example, to that of " quasi-manufacturer ". However, other trajectories are emerging : some subcontractors are going so far as promoting their own technologies, in the same way as innovatory SMEs. New industrial networks are also being created that act both as " incubators " for SMEs and a vector for new types of partnership, which looks set to revive the traditional image of " dualism " in this area. Ikeda Masayoshi, Nohara Hiroatsu. X-ray diffraction imaging of biological cells
In this book, the author describes the development of the experimental diffraction setup and structural analysis of non-crystalline particles from material science and biology. Recent advances in X-ray free electron laser (XFEL)-coherent X-ray diffraction imaging (CXDI) experiments allow for the structural analysis of non-crystalline particles to a resolution of 7 nm, and to a resolution of 20 nm for biological materials. Now XFEL-CXDI marks the dawn of a new era in structural analys of non-crystalline particles with dimensions larger than 100 nm, which was quite impossible in the 20th century. To conduct CXDI experiments in both synchrotron and XFEL facilities, the author has developed apparatuses, named KOTOBUKI-1 and TAKASAGO-6 for cryogenic diffraction experiments on frozen-hydrated non-crystalline particles at around 66 K. At the synchrotron facility, cryogenic diffraction experiments dramatically reduce radiation damage of specimen particles and allow tomography CXDI experiments. In addition, in XFEL experiments, non-crystalline particles scattered on thin support membranes and flash-cooled can be used to efficiently increase the rate of XFEL pulses. The rate, which depends on the number density of scattered particles and the size of X-ray beams, is currently 20-90%, probably the world record in XFEL-CXDI experiments. The experiment setups and results are introduced in this book. The author has also developed software suitable for efficiently processing of diffraction patterns and retrieving electron density maps of specimen particles based on the diffraction theory used in CXDI
An Analysis of the 'Account of the History of Balhae 渤海' in the Ruijūkokushi 類聚國史
The Ruijūkokushi is an encyclopedia, completed by Sugawara no Michizane in 892. The section dated the 25th day of the sexagenary cycle of the 4th month in the 15th year of the Enryaku era in the 193rd volume of the Ruijūkokushi includes an account of the history of Balhae. It describes its founding and the local society of Balhae, providing a precious source for consideration of the domestic affairs in Balhae. Because the latter section describes the organization of the local administration and the ethnic composition of the local people, it has attracted much attention. In regard to this account, local society and governance has been discussed through an examination of the character of the shuryō 首領, a title that appears in the text. However, the problem of how to think about the historical character of this account is an important prerequisite for any further discussion. As for this problem, there has been a consensus of opinion and there seemed to be no need for further discussion. Afterwards, there has been some consideration of the historical character of the account, albeit fragmentary in nature. This author thus thinks that it is necessary to reexamine this issue using a thoroughly empirical approach. In this study, the author first reexamines the historical character of the account and then employs his findings as a key in interpreting the account, and finally concludes by offering some remarks on the circumstances of local society and its governance in Balhae
