Polish army soldier and scientist – Stanisław Ossowski
Artykuł przypomina Stanisława Ossowskiego, wybitnego socjologa i politologa, reprezentanta Szkoły Lwowsko-Warszawskiej i żołnierza. Stanisław Ossowski za zawodowy obowiązek uczonego, zwłaszcza humanisty badającego systemy idei i systemy wartości, uważał nieposłuszeństwo w myśleniu, wiernośc prawdzie i intelektualną uczciwość. The article reminds Stanisław Ossowski, an outstanding sociologist and political scientist, a representative of the Lviv-Warsaw school, and a brave soldier. The author focuses her attention on two problems selected from his work: on man as an ethical subject and on opportunities and threats in shaping individual and collective social personalities. Stanisław Ossowski regarded disobedience in thinking, faithfulness to the truth, and intellectual honesty as the professional duty of a scientist, especially a humanist, who studies ideas and value systems. He justified the theory of mutual conditioning of the social structure-personality. He studied the impact of decisions of senior government officials on the dynamics of human behaviour and the development of human polymorphism
Expression of Inhibitory Receptors TIGIT, TIM-3, and LAG-3 on CD4+ T Cells from Patients with Different Clinical Forms of Chronic Chagas Disease
T cells are central to the adaptive immune response against Trypanosoma cruzi infection. In chronic Chagas disease (CCD), circulating parasite-specific memory T cells show reduced functionality and increased expression of inhibitory receptors as a result of persistent antigenic stimulation. This phenotype has been linked to progression of cardiac pathology, whereas the presence of polyfunctional T cells shows association with therapeutic success. In this study, we demonstrate that T. cruzi-specific human CD4+ T cells can be identified by their expression of OX40 and CD25 upon in vitro stimulation. We characterized the expression of the inhibitory receptors T cell immunoreceptor with Ig and ITIM domains (TIGIT), T cell Ig and mucin-domain containing-3 (TIM-3), and lymphocyte activation gene 3 (LAG-3) in CD4+ T cells from CCD patients with and without cardiac alterations. Our results show that, independently of their clinical stage, CCD patients present an increased frequency of CD4+ T cells expressing TIGIT in comparison with non-T. cruzi-infected donors. Exposure to parasite Ags increases the expression of TIM-3 in CD4+ T cells from CCD patients, especially in those with cardiac compromise. Upregulation of LAG-3 was also detected in CCD individuals without cardiac manifestations, predominantly within the subpopulation of cells that did not become activated upon stimulation. Further differences were found between groups in the coexpression of these receptors. Blockade of each individual receptor did not affect activation or the production of IFN-g and IL-10 by CD4+ T cells in response to parasite Ags. Our results suggest a role for TIGIT, TIM-3, and LAG-3 in the modulation of inflammatory phenomena thought to ultimately lead to tissue damage and cardiac pathology.Fil: Ferragut, Fatima Eneida del Valle. Modeling the bond strength in overmolded thermoplastic composite structures
Resource-efficient lightweight engineering enables the development and manufacturing of technical solutions and products with minimal consumption of materials and energy whilst achieving maximum efficiency. Reducing moving masses is a suitable approach to increase efficiency, particularly in the mobility sector. In addition to conventional light metals, thermoplastics and composite materials have established as lightweight materials for high-volume mobility applications. As an innovative manufacturing process for the production of high-performing yet highly functionally integrated components, the overmolding process has been developed during the past decade. It combines the advantages of established injection molding processes with the outstanding mechanical properties of continuous fiber-reinforced semi-finished products. This is achieved by integrating thermoplastic fiber-reinforced composites (TP-FRC) into the injection molding process and directly establishing a solid bond by overflowing with polymer melt, whereby the thermoplastic material systems interdiffuse. Ensuring sufficient bond strength between TP-FRC and the injection-molded structure is a key design criterion for overmolded thermoplastic composite structures. Within the scope of this thesis, the formation of the bond strength during the overmolding process is investigated in detail in order to develop a suitable model as well as a design methodology for the virtual prediction of the bond strength. Therefore, the phenomenology of the overmolding process and the strength evolution is first examined using simplified test geometries from which the influences of the process parameters and the particular material specifications are analyzed. The resulting dependencies between the process variables of the overmolding process and the bond strength serve as validation data for the subsequent model development. For this purpose, the relevant material and process-specific effects are abstracted and transferred into an analytical calculation formula. By describing and computing the contact conditions and the fusion process in the interface area, the bond strength can be evaluated locally. The necessary input variables for the developed model are determined by means of numerical simulation of the overmolding process, whereby the interface state can be evaluated with spatial and time resolution. In addition, the simulation of the thermoforming process of the fiber-reinforced semi-finished product provides information about the surface conditions present before overmolding, which can be taken into account in the model specifications. A demonstration scenario is used to fully implement the modeling and computation methodology to predict the bond strength distribution in the interface for an application-oriented structure. Thus, the transfer potential of this thesis is presented
On principles organizing social order. An attempt to reinterpret the typology of collective behaviours by St. Ossowski
The starting point of this article is the typology of collective behaviours by
St. Ossowski. The purpose of the considerations is an attempt to formulate
a general form of each of the three basic types and to present research possibilities
offered by this theoretical conception.
The author assumes that the most fundamental element differentiating between
particular types of order are the principles organizing social order. Three basic
principles can be distinguished: 1) rationality — prevailing in organizing the
behaviours of the policentric type; 2) functionality — prevailing in monocentric
collectivities; and 3) traditionality — prevailing in collectivities characterized by
the internal order of the „collective representations" type.
Besides, within each of the principles one can distinguish various criteria
whose maximalisation the principle is to serve. The classification of a given
collectivity into one of the basic types of collective behaviours makes it necessary
to indicate these two categories; other differences may be treated as reducible
to the above two categories.Digitalizacja i deponowanie archiwalnych zeszytów RPEiS sfinansowane przez MNiSW w ramach realizacji umowy nr 541/P-DUN/201
Jan Paweł II a demokracja
The Author observes a certain paradox: on the one hand John Paul II sharply criticized modern liberal democracy, but on the other such words were uttered by the man who took credit for an immense, if not decisive, contribution to the collapse of Communism and the birth of democracy in Central and Eastern Europe. This contradiction, however, is only apparent since John Paul II, and the Catholic Church, perceived and defined democracy in a particular way. Their way is in many aspects contradictory to the principles of a modern model of democracy, that is liberal democracy, prevailing in Europe and elsewhere. The Author observes a certain paradox: on the one hand John Paul II sharply criticized modern liberal democracy, but on the other such words were uttered by the man who took credit for an immense, if not decisive, contribution to the collapse of Communism and the birth of democracy in Central and Eastern Europe. (Aesthetical Experience and Aesthetical Values in Stanislaw Ossowski’s Conception)
(The article is devoted to the analysis of main aesthetical problems in the philosophy of Stanislaw Ossowski. Author
pays attention to the question of aesthetical position and experience, and to the problem of aesthetical values.
The important element of the aesthetical experience theory, as S. Ossowski considered, is a category of aesthetical
position. It is not depended on a kind of recognizing the aesthetical position as necessary condition for the getting
the aesthetical experience or as essential characteristic of such experience. Ossowski paid attention to the polysemy
of concept «position», which is viewed by aestheticians as readiness to get some experience or as actual relation with
object of experience or the very experience. In Ossowski’s works the «aesthetical position» was defined as relation with object. However, sometimes he used the concepts «position» and «feeling» as synonyms. So, we can state that Ossowski did not distinguished these two concepts.
One of the main task of Ossowski’s aesthetical investigations is determining the specific of aesthetical experience.
He tried to find the universal feature of aesthetical position. This investigation led him to recognition of contemplative «life by instancy». This state was characterized as selfless attitude to reality In addition, the author finds out the role of interpretation, expression and emotion. There also has been analyzed criterion of aesthetic values and outlining his own position as on aesthetic values, and about the aesthetic experience.
In general, sociological orientation of S. Ossowski’s aesthetic reflection allowed to avoid the normativism in conception of aesthetic experiences. According Ossowski, the results of the art communication depends on age, culture,
environment and personality of the recipient.
Stanisław Ossowski’s conception of national heritage
The author presents a genuine conception of national heritage developed by Stanisław Ossowski. Ossowski did not make use of the concept of tradition. He decided to focus only on one of its aspects. He focused on what he considered the awareness-related aspect of tradition that is the one that manifests itself through the inheritance of programmed attitudes towards the past and the artefacts that represent it. Hence, Ossowski’s cultural heritage is a collection of response patterns that are internalized by people through socialization processes. These response patters give the basis for the growth of attitudes of the particular members of a group towards the particular cultural texts and artefacts relating to the past

In the modern world, a dispensation from celibacy of presbyters is hotly debated problem and very thought provoking issue among both clerics and the lay Christian faithful. It also raises universal interest of media and public opinion.
The Author analyses the legal status in force and the practice of the Apostolic See concerning the obtaining a dispensation from the obligations of sacred ordination validly received in the Latin Church at the request of the presbyter, included celibacy. In the first part of the article, provisions regulating an issue of dispensation from celibacy of presbyters are presented. Attention is paid at the competences in the procedure of granting the dispensation and the legal grounds for it. In the second part, the Author shows different stages of the proceedings in order for obtaining a dispensation at the request of the presbyter which are the proceedings before the ordinary and then in the Congregation for the Clergy. In the last part of the article, the Author presents the legal effects of the rescript of the Apostolic See
Drukarstwo warszawskie w latach 1795–1806
PRINTING IN WARSAW IN 1795–1806The article examines the state of printing in Warsaw over an 11-year period following the fall of the Kościuszko Uprising. The author briefly discusses printing houses closed at the time run by Tadeusz Podlecki, Fr. Józef Mejer and the Cadet Corps; in addition, he presents a detailed analysis of the state of printing houses that continued their operations as well as new printing houses founded in the 19th century. The most distinguished printing houses from the reign of Stanisław August including those of Piotr Dufour and Michal Gröll, and Piotr Zawadzki’s matrix shop did not manage to maintain their status. This was the result of both a new political situation and the death of the owners, whose successors were no match for them in terms of talent or scope of projects undertaken. Among monastic printing houses only the Piarists’ printing houses remained in good condition, printing a number of quality publications in 1795–1806. Among new entities established in the 19th century the one that stood out was the very well equipped printing house founded by Tadeusz Mostowski, the publisher of the „Wybór Pisarzów Polskich” “Selection of Polish Writers” series, important for the preservation of the national heritage. The author analyses the operation of press printing houses of „Korespondent” and „Gazeta Warszawska” and engraving houses of Józef Elsner and Fr. Izydor Cybulski, who printed sheet music, and the engraver Jan Ligber, a book illustrator. The author questions the existence of Stefan Baccigalupi’s enterprise during the discussed period, because his typefaces and press were used by the „Korespondent” printing house.PRINTING IN WARSAW IN 1795–1806The article examines the state of printing in Warsaw over an 11-year period following the fall of the Kościuszko Uprising.
