    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     The background of this research is the phenomenon of the low role of parents in taking care of children and the difficulties of teachers in implementing the teaching and learning process in early childhood education institutions of At-Taufiqiyah Kindergarten. Teachers have difficulty in implementing learning in schools because of the lack of educators and helpers as well as the perception of the majority of parents who positioned the child's success is entirely the responsibility of the teaching staff. This research used descriptive qualitative approach. Sources of data in this study are documentation and stakeholders‟ interview. Data collection techniques are observation, documentation and interviews. While the data analysis techniques performed through data reduction, data presentation and verifying or taking the conclusion. The result of the research showed that parenting program implemented in TK At-Taufiqiyah kindergarten are able to improve the quality of learning, improving children's achievement by applying parenting care after following parenting program consisting of motor, religious, emotional and social care. Improving the quality of learning is done by improving the professionalism of teachers, providing adequate learning facilities, involving parents in school and home learning activities, and understanding the principles of early childhood learning consisting of learning activities through playing and singing, applying learning oriented to child development, learning through life skills in socializing, learning from concrete objects, and integrated learning. ( INDONESIA ) Latar belakang penelitian ini adalah fenomena rendahnya peran orang tua dalam mengasuh anak serta kesulitan guru dalam melaksanakan proses belajar mengajar di lembaga pendidikan anak usia dini Taman Kanak-Kanak At- Taufiqiyah. Jajaran guru mengalami kesulitan dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran di sekolah karena minimnya tenaga pendidik dan tenaga pembantu serta persepsi mayoritas orang tua yang memposisikan kesusksesan anak sepenuhnya merupakan tanggung jawab tenaga pendidik. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini yaitu dokumentasi dan narasumber. Teknik pengumpulan datanya adalah observasi, dokumentasi dan wawancara. Sedangkan teknik analisis data yang dilakukan melalui reduksi data, penyajian data dan kemudian menverifikasi atau mengambil simpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa program parenting yang diterapkan di TK At-Taufiqiyah dapat berfungsi untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran, meningkatkan prerstasi anak yang dilakukan dengan adanya upaya menerapkan pengasuhan pendampingan setelah mengikuti program parenting yang terdiri dari pengasuhan fisik motorik, agama, emosi dan sosial. Peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran dilakukan dengan cara meningkatkan profesionalitas guru, penyediaan fasilitas pembelajaran yang memadai, melibatkan orang tua dalam kegiatan pembelajaran di sekolah maupun di rumah, dan memahami prinsip pembelajaran anak usia dini yang terdiri dari kegiatan belajar melalui bermain dan bernyanyi, menerapkan pembelajaran yang berorientasi pada perkembangan anak, menerapkan pembelajaran melalui kecakapan hidup dalam bersosialisasi, menerapkan pembelajaran yang belajar dari benda konkrit, dan menerapkan pembelajaran terpadu

    Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    Penerapan Metode Bercerita dengan Pendekatan Ramah Anak untuk Mengembangkan Bahasa Anak Usia Dini di PAUD Ar Rahman

    Penelitian ini menginvestigasi efektivitas metode bercerita dengan pendekatan ramah anak dalam mengembangkan kemampuan bahasa anak usia dini di PAUD Ar Rahman. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif, dengan melakukan proses pengumpulan data melalui observasi partisipatif dan wawancara mendalam dengan pendidik serta orang tua. Tujuannya adalah untuk mengevaluasi interaksi antara anak dengan materi cerita dan dampaknya terhadap perkembangan bahasa. Hasil penelitian ini  menunjukkan bahwa metode bercerita, ketika diintegrasikan dalam pendekatan yang mendukung dan partisipatif, meningkatkan secara signifikan kosa kata, pemahaman mendengar, dan keterampilan ekspresi bahasa anak. Pendekatan ini berkontribusi pada pengembangan keterampilan sosial dan empati, menegaskan hubungan positif antara penggunaan cerita yang relevan dengan pengalaman sehari-hari anak dan peningkatan keterlibatan mereka dalam proses pembelajaran.This study investigates the effectiveness of the storytelling method with a child-friendly approach in developing language skills in early childhood at PAUD Ar Rahman. The research employs a qualitative methodology, collecting data through participatory observation and in-depth interviews with educators and parents. The goal is to evaluate the interaction between the children and the story material and its impact on language development. The results of this study indicate that the storytelling method, when integrated into a supportive and participatory approach, significantly enhances vocabulary acquisition, listening comprehension, and children's language expression skills. Furthermore, this approach contributes to the development of social skills and empathy, affirming the positive relationship between the use of stories relevant to the children's daily experiences and their increased engagement in the learning process

    This study focuses on the impact of YouTube content on early childhood language development in the digital era, highlighting the roles of parenting and social change. The research background is the increasing dominance of YouTube as an educational platform for children, potentially influencing their cognitive and linguistic development. The aim of this study is to explore how exposure to YouTube content affects children's language development, and to analyze the roles of parenting and social change dynamics in this process. The research method employed is a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with parents and teachers, and analysis of digital content frequently accessed by children. The results indicate that educational content on YouTube can enrich vocabulary, enhance grammar comprehension, and support children's speaking abilities, provided the content is of high quality and consumed in a controlled manner. However, excessive exposure to YouTube content can lead to negative effects, such as the introduction of inappropriate words and a decrease in social interaction. This study also found that the role of parenting, including content selection, screen time management, and involvement in discussions, is crucial in maximizing benefits and minimizing negative impacts of digital media. The conclusion of this research emphasizes the need for balance in the use of digital technology and the importance of parenting in ensuring that digital experiences support children's overall language development and social skills

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
