    MeSH term explosion and author rank improve expert recommendations

    Information overload is an often-cited phenomenon that reduces the productivity, efficiency and efficacy of scientists. One challenge for scientists is to find appropriate collaborators in their research. The literature describes various solutions to the problem of expertise location, but most current approaches do not appear to be very suitable for expert recommendations in biomedical research. In this study, we present the development and initial evaluation of a vector space model-based algorithm to calculate researcher similarity using four inputs: 1) MeSH terms of publications; 2) MeSH terms and author rank; 3) exploded MeSH terms; and 4) exploded MeSH terms and author rank. We developed and evaluated the algorithm using a data set of 17,525 authors and their 22,542 papers. On average, our algorithms correctly predicted 2.5 of the top 5/10 coauthors of individual scientists. Exploded MeSH and author rank outperformed all other algorithms in accuracy, followed closely by MeSH and author rank. Our results show that the accuracy of MeSH term-based matching can be enhanced with other metadata such as author rank

    Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui nilai kekuatan uji tarik filamen ABS hasil 3-D printer dengan mengatur infill geometry dan infill percentage. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tahapan mencari literatur, membuat spesimen, dan melakukan simulasi pengujan uji tarik filamen ABS dengan bentuk spesimen ASTM D-638 yang meliputi 3 pengaturan infill percentage yakni 15%, 25%, dan 35% serta 2 infill geometry berupa honeycomb dan rectilinear. Sedangkan simulasi menggunakan software Solidworks dengan penetapan constraint dan load sesuai dengan keadaan di pengujian sebenarnya. Analisa data menggunakan metode perbandingan antara hasil pengujian sebenarnya dan simulasi. Hasil pengujian sebenarnya menunjukkan bahwa kekuatan tarik tertinggi terdapat pada infill geometry honeycomb dengan infill percentage 35%. Data hasil simulasi menunjukkan kesamaan dengan hasil kekuatan tarik tertinggi berada pada infill geometry honeycomb dengan infill percentage 35%

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Pada umumnya disain tegangan tarik atau tekan hanya berpatokan pada satu dimensi saja yaitu dimensi aturan standar. Pada prakteknya struktur beton memiliki dimensi yang berbeda-beda dan berbeda pula dengan dimensi aturan standar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk, menentukan hubungan antara kuat tarik lentur dan kuat tekan beton mutu tinggi, menentukan hubungan antara kuat tarik belah dan kuat tekan beton mutu tinggi, menentukan hubungan antara kuat tarik lentur dan kuat tarik belah beton mutu tinggi.Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian eksperimental. Langkah-langkahnya adalah sebagai berikut: mengumpulkan data awal, meriset lokasi material, melakukan penelitian material yang meliputi gradasi, berat jenis, absorbsi, berat volume, keausan, dan kadar air, mendisain komposisi campuran dengan metode ACI 211.4R-93, melakukan disain campuran cara coba-coba jika metode ACI tidak terpenuhi, melakukan uji tekan kubus 15x15x15 cm, melakukan uji silinder 15/30 cm, melakukan uji lentur balok 5 x 5 x 20 cm. 7 x 7 x 28 cm. 10 x 10 x 40 cm. dan 15 x 15 x 60, melakukan uji tarik belah silinder 10/15 cm, analisa data hasil uji coba untuk kemudian ditampilkan dalam bentuk tabel, gambar, dan laporan serta kesimpulan yang relevan dan yang terakhir yaitu Dokumentasi.Hasil pengujian tegangan tarik lentur beton mutu tinggi di pengaruhi oleh dimensi penampang yaitu semakin besar penampang, semakin kecil tegangan tarik lentur yang dapat dipikulnya. Hubungan kuat tarik lentur dan kuat tekan beton mutu tinggi bervariasi menurut dimensi baloknya yang besarnya adalah kuat tarik lentur berbanding lurus secara polinomial dengan koefisien k dan kuat tekan beton yang diakarkan. Hubungan kuat tarik belah dan kuat tekan beton mutu tinggi pada penelitian ini adalah Kuat tarik belah berbanding lurus dengan kuat tekan beton yang diakarkan. Hubungan kuat tarik lentur dan kuat tarik belah beton mutu tinggi adalah Kuat tarik lentur berbanding lurus secara polinomial dgn kuat tarik belah beton

    Both spending and tax policies have been implemented in the United States with the goal of stimulating private sector research and development (R&D). Karier questions whether current R&D policy, especially the research and experimentation tax credit, can contribute to closing the gap between nondefense expenditures on R&D in the United States and such expenditures in other countries, such as Japan and Germany. He also explores possible changes to our current R&D policy to make it more effective.

    Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pengaruh kadar air terhadap kekuatan tarik interfacial serat Pelepah Aren yang diberi perlakuan alkali dengan 5%NaOH. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan satu jenis serat alam yaitu serat Pelepah Aren. Pengujian kekuatan mekanik dari komposit yang dilakukan dengan menggunakan pengujian tarik (tensile test) yang dilakukan dengan mesin uji tarik pearson panke Equipment Ltd, bentuk dan ukuran sesuai dengan ukuran standar ASTM D 3379-75. Menganalisa dan membandingkan komposit serat Pelepah Aren dengan NaOH, yaitu 5% kadar NaOH. Menurut analisa nilai yang terbaik dari kekuatan tarik pada serat Pelepah Aren yaitu dengan perlakuan alkali 5% NaOH. Kekuatan tarik serat Pelepah Aren lebih tinggi daipada kekuatan tarik serat Lontar. Kata kunci : NaOH, serat Pelepah Aren, kekuatan tarik, alkali, Standar ASTM.

    Adaptive Receiver for Indoor Visible Light Communications

    Visible light communications seeks to leverage an unused medium for indoor wireless communications. A major goal is to deliver very high data-rates through LED luminaires to all places where we use lighting. However, the characteristics of LEDs and the nature of indoor lighting conspire to distort the signals. Illumination powers LEDs have low signaling bandwidth and exhibit severe frequency distortion. Their wide dispersion patterns, required for light and signal coverage, also add multipath distortion. Intermittent shadowing results in a wide range of channel characteristics. In this paper we address these challenges with an adaptive receiver. Namely, training is used to identify channel impairments, and our proposed receiver applies specific countermeasures including threshold detection, RAKE reception and adaptive channel equalization. Analysis and simulation demonstrate that our design mitigates distortion problems yielding a performance improvement of 40% to 100% with respect to the current literature in achievable bit-rate depending on the propagation scenario. © 2013 IEEE

    Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
