Fond of Raissa Gourevich-Kroll-De Chirico-Calza (Raissa Lork) in the Library of Humanities, Siena
The article strives to describe the fond of Raissa Calza (1897–1979) in the Library of Humanities of Siena and documents in it. For this purpose, the author has carried out the following tasks: she has studied Russian and foreign historiography on the issue; she has analyzed sources on the issue; and drawing on these, she has studied the biography of Raisa Calza; she has reviewed the archival fond and analyzed its documents. Having reviewed the historiography, the author comes to the conclusion that the fate of Raisa Calza, her creativity, and scientific work has been poorly studied, especially by Russian historians. There are few articles dedicated to the Calza collection in the Library of Humanities. Studying the sources (personal and business letters, diary, notebooks, memoirs, photographs, scientific works) associated with Raisa and her connections allows to identify their nature and main features and to supplement, clarify, and flesh out the biography of Raissa Calza. These documents are sources on more than everyday life and microhistory. They can be used in studying the history of Russian emigration, of Russian-Italian cultural relations, of archeology. The fate of Raisa Calza is interesting in itself, as a fate of a woman, an individual, amidst historical events of the 20th century. The chronological frameworks of the study coincide with the chronology of Raisa Calza’s documents preserved in the Siena’s library (1900s-1970s). The article includes an overview of the creation of the archive in the Library of Humanities of Siena and that of the Raissa Calza fond, which came into existence when she donated her documents to the Library in 1970s. The article studies the structure of the Raissa Calza fond: boxes I, VI – letters, postcards, telegrams, dairy, history of Gourevitch, Tumarkin and Frenkley families; II-IV – ‘Ostia’ containing materials on the excavations of Antic Ostia; V – various documents, boxes of photos. The author concludes that these sources should be introduces into scientific use. The collection proves that documents on Russian history are available not only in central state archives and private collections, but also in universities. It challenges historians to start researching universities libraries and archives. The article also names other foreign archives containing documents of Raissa Calza.</jats:p
Gramsci, la Rivoluzione russa e la pianificazione linguistica sovietica
Given the influence the Russian Revolution exerted on Antonio Gramsci’s thought, the Italian philosopher observed and analysed the consequences of the Revolution as well as the possibility of translating the Soviet approach into the contemporary Italian context. Gramsci fol-lowed the policy of linguistic planning in the Soviet Union and focused on the importance of language and its relevance within Marxism. In his Prison Notebooks, by discussing his phi-losophy of praxis, the author stressed the matter of linguistic policy in educational practices and the translatability concerning scientific and philosophic languages, turning his analysis into a philosophy of language
Penentuan Portofolio Saham Optimal Menggunakan Algoritme Genetika Terdistribusi

Article Review: Moringa Plant (Moringa oleifera Lamk.) as a New Candidate for Anti-Acne
Acne is an abnormal skin condition caused by excessive production of oil glands (sebaceous glands), which causes blockage of hair follicle ducts and skin pores. Acne occurs due to various factors, one of which is bacterial infection. The bacteria that cause acne are Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Staphylococcus aureus. The moringa plant (Moringa oleifera Lamk.) is also known to have potential antibacterial activity against bacteria that cause acne. This research aims to determine the benefits of moringa plant as a new candidate for anti-acne. This research uses the Systematic Literature Review method by collecting data through databases such as Publish or Perish, PubMed, and Google Scholar. The results of this review article show that Moringa oleifera Lamk. leaf extract has been proven to have potential as a new candidate for anti-acne, which is characterised by the formation of an inhibition zone. Moringa leaf 96% ethanol extract using the well method best inhibits the growth of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. Moringa leaf 96% ethanol extract using the disc diffusion method is more effective on Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Moringa leaf 70% ethanol extract using the well method is more effective on Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria
REPRESENTATION OF SOCIAL INEQUALITY IN SNOWPIERCER (2013) DIRECTED BY BONG JOON HO
ABSTRACT: My research discusses how social issues that occur in society, such as social inequality represented in literary works, film as the genre, Snowpiercer (2013) directed by Korean director, Bong Joon Ho. The background of the research is social issues that are reflected in literary works. The purpose of the research is, to find out and show to the reader, how social inequality and exploitation are represented in Snowpiercer (2013). The research method used in this research is a literary qualitative method, where all the information is collected in various references. The conclusion that can be obtained from this writing is, that social issues such as social inequality and exploitation can be represented through the literary work, film. Snowpiercer (2013) shows that there is an inequality social issue and exploitation which often occurs in real life society. Keywords: Snowpiercer, Social Inequality, Sociology
Macroscopic order from reversible and stochastic lattice growth models
Thesis (Ph.D.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Physics, 1999.Includes bibliographical references (p. 197-209).This electronic version was submitted by the student author. The certified thesis is available in the Institute Archives and Special Collections. This thesis advances the understanding of how autonomous microscopic physical processes give rise to macroscopic structure. A unifying theme is the use of physically motivated microscopic models of discrete systems which incorporate the constraints of locality, uniformity, and exact conservation laws. The features studied include: stochastic nonequilibrium fluctuations; use of pseudo-randomness in dynamical simulations; the thermodynamics of pattern formation; recurrence times of finite discrete systems; and computation in physical models. I focus primarily on pattern formation: transitions from a disordered to an ordered macroscopic state. Using an irreversible stochastic model of pattern formation in an open system driven by an external source of noise, I study thin film growth. I focus on the regimes of growth and the average properties of the resulting rough surfaces. I also show that this model couples sensitively to the imperfections of various pseudorandom number generators, resulting in non-stochastic exploration of the accessible state space. Using microscopically reversible models, I explicitly model how macroscopic dissipation can arise. In discrete systems with invertible dynamics entropy cannot decrease, and most such systems approach fully ergodic. Therefore these systems are natural candidates for models of thermodynamic behavior. I construct reversible models of pattern formation by dividing the system in two: the part of primary interest, and a "heat bath". We can observe the exchange of heat, energy, and entropy between the two subsystems, and gain insight into the thermodynamics of self-assembly. I introduce a local, deterministic, microscopically reversible model of cluster growth via aggregation in a closed two-dimensional system. The model has a realistic thermodynamics. When started from a state with low coarse grained entropy the model exhibits an initial regime of rapid nonequilibrium growth followed by a quasistatic regime with a well defined temperature. The growth clusters generated display a rich variety of morphologies. I also show how sequences of conditional aggregation events can be used to implement reusable logic gates and how to simulate any digital logic circuit with this model.by Raissa Michelle D'Souza.Ph.D
Room Geometry Estimation from Acoustic Echoes
Estimating a room geometry using multiple microphones rises an echoes labeling problem. Two recent methods called the graph-based and the subspace-greedy methods have shown their capability in solving this problem. The graph-based method attains a good accuracy but suffers in maintaining the computational cost when the number of microphones is larger than 7. On the other hand, the subspace-greedy method provides suboptimal accuracy with much lower computational time. Here we construct the hybrid combination methods using those two baseline methods by interchanging their intermediate steps: the refinement step and the source localization step. To assess their practicability in a real-life application such as virtual reality games and robot navigation, the performance of these hybrid methods were tested against the close microphones arrangement on the sphere's surface. However, this new microphones' constellation brings up a low dimensional problem. To deal with this matter, we use the weighted least squares as the source localization procedure. Finally, experiments on synthetic squared distance data demonstrate the feasibility of all hybrid methods for estimating the room geometry with centimeter precision within seconds.Electrical Engineerin
Neuroeducation: Integrating Brain-Based Psychoeducation into Clinical Practice
Understanding and integrating neuroscience research into clinical practice represents a rapidly growing area in mental health. An expanding body of neuroscience literature increasingly informs clinical practice by validating theory, guiding clinical assessment and conceptualization, directing effective interventions, and facilitating cross-disciplinary communication. Little attention, however, has been given to the use of neuroeducation with clients. In this article, the author provides mental health counselors with a definition of neuroeducation and a rationale for incorporating neuroeducation into clinical practice. The author identifies common neuroeducation topics and offers activity suggestions to illustrate their use in counseling. Finally, the author offers best practices for implementing neuroeducation, including attention to counselor competence, client readiness, and neuroscience of learning principles. Implications for research are also discussed
Hippolyta: a framework to enhance open data interpretability and empower citizens
Open government data initiatives have been rising quickly in recent times. They are encouraged by a wish to democratize data access and knowledge production and enhance cities socially and economically. The hardship of interpreting data can be considered an obstacle to using open government data and more prominent citizen engagement. Technology is crucial to enhance data interpretability and the practical construction of an open government. Nevertheless, the literature needed an instrument to support open government data's interpretability. In this work, our primary goal is to present the definition, implementation, and evaluation of a framework named Hippolyta, which is qualified to help citizens to interpret open government data. Hippolyta first identifies the citizen's necessities using a semantic enrichment module. After this step, the framework conducts the data collection through the same data retrieval module. Finally, Hippolyta creates a graphic visualization through a data visualization module. This study is relevant since it furnishes comprehensive insights into what the open data interpretability concept is composed of and which framework modules can sustain open data interpretation.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Information and Communication Technolog
