Approximation of Bounded Continuous Functions by Linear Combinations of Phillips Operators
We study the approximation properties of linear combinations of the so-called Phillips operators, which can be considered as genuine Szász-Mirakjan-Durrmeyer operators. As main result, we prove a direct estimate for the rate of approximation of bounded continuous functions f E C[0,x), measured in C|\[0,x)-norm and thus generalizing the results, proved earlier by Gupta, Agrawal, and Gairola in [3]. Our estimates rely on the recent results, obtained in the joint works of M. Heilmann and the author-[10, 11
Chebyshev-Grüss- and Ostrowski-type Inequalities
My PhD thesis deals with Chebyshev-Grüss- and Ostrowski-type inequalities in the univariate and bivariate case. Such inequalities have drawn much attention in recent years due to their applications.
The classical form of Grüss' inequality, first published by G. Grüss in 1935, gives an estimate of the difference between the integral of the product and the product of the integrals of two functions in C[a,b]. In the following years a lot of variants of this inequality appeared in the literature.
This talk consists of five parts. The first part includes a motivation, containing some introductory instruments that are further used to obtain the results. In the second section, Chebyshev-Grüss-type inequalities in the one-dimensional case are of interest. The results are introduced with the help of second moments, first absolute moments and quantities over differences of second and first moments. They are applied to (positive) linear operators. Oscillations which are expressed by the least concave majorant of the first order modulus are used in the first place. The use of such oscillations includes all points in the considered interval, and that is the reason why a new approach arises looking at fewer points. When talking about discrete oscillations, Chebyshev-Grüss-type inequalities for more than two functions are obtained at the end of this section. The third section extends the results from the univariate to the bivariate case. The method of parametric extensions by means of product of two compact metric spaces is used. Applications are given for both the approach with the least concave majorant and also for the one via discrete oscillations. The purpose of the fourth and fifth sections is to complete this study, in the sense that univariate and bivariate Ostrowski-type inequalities are also considered. Some applications are specified and Ostrowski type inequalities are obtained, with or without the participation of the iterates of the operators. The limit of the iterates of positive linear operators is also studied
On two modified Phillips operators: Dedicated to Professor Heiner Gonska on the occasion of his 70th anniversary.
In this note we introduce two new modified Phillips operators G1 and n. We obtain direct estimates for approximation of bounded continuous functions, defined on [0, ∞) by G1 , as well as for approximation of unbounded continuous functions by G2 We improve some previous results on this topic.

Voronovskaja's theorem revisited
AbstractWe represent a new quantitative variant of Voronovskaja's theorem for Bernstein operator. This estimate improves the recent quantitative versions of Voronovskaja's theorem for certain Bernstein-type operators, obtained by H. Gonska, P. Pitul and I. Rasa in 2006
Refined Estimates for the Equivalence Between Ditzian-Totik Moduli of Smoothness and K-Functionals
The aim of this note is to study the magnitude of the constants in the equivalence between the first and secondorder Ditzian-Totik moduli of smoothness and related K-functionals. Applications to some classic approximationoperators are given
On multiplicativity of the Bernstein operator
AbstractFor continuous functions f and g, we prove that the Bernstein operator Bn is multiplicative for all n≥1 and all x∈2[0,1] if and only if at least one of the functions f and g is a constant function. Some other variants of multiplicativity are also considered
Pointwise Approximation by Bernstein Polynomials
We improve the degree of pointwise approximation of continuous function f(x) by Bernstein operator, when x is close to the endpoints of [0, 1]. We apply the new estimate to establish upper and lower pointwise estimates for logarithmic function. At the end we
prove general statement for pointwise approximation by Bernstein operator.

Quantitative Voronovskaya Type Theorems For A General Sequence of Linear Positive Operators
The present paper deal with the obtaining quantitative form of the results presented Butzer & Karsli [1]. That is, we prove quantitative simultaneous results by general sequence of positive linear operators which are valid for unbounded functions with polynomial growth. We present some applications of the general results by considering particular sequences of positive linear operators
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
