Aketajawe Lolobata National Park (TNAL) is a protected area for paradise birds, parrots and others North Maluku endemic wildlife. As a former of commercial logging concessions, this areas have been damaged and loss of wildlife habitat. The purpose of this research was to determine bird species of TNAL area based on zone category, this research is important in order to validate data related to the birds species diversity. Data collection used the observation point system with purposive sampling by direct observation and audio. The number of observation points were six points in core zone, ten points in both of jungle and traditional zone, and six points in buffer zone. Research showed that there are 39 species found in the buffer zone, 45 species in jungle and traditional zone, and 19 species in core zone. Wallace's standardwing (Semioptera wallacei) is one of the 15 endemic species of North Maluku was found along drummer rail (Habroptila wallacii) which is Halmahera's endemic species. Distribution pattern of birds in TNAL is very varied. The jungle and traditional zone have the amount and the highest species diversity while the highest species variation was in the buffer zone. The natural habitat of bird in this area generally located in open area along former road skid as well as forest edge and only a few were found in primary forest of core zone

Utilization of germplasms as medical sources presents a form of traditional wisdom adopted by a particular community which is identical with a hereditary legacy. This paper deals descriptively with ethnobotany aspects of North Sulawesi community (Minahasa, Mongondow and Sangihe tribes) in utilizing natural bioresources from several forest plant species as traditional cancer-curing treatment, which was further proved scientifically through the identification of active ingredients contents and their efficacious toxicity using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method. Scrutiny results revealed that the local community in North Sulawesi province has prevalently utilized particular portions (e.g. wood, bark, and leaves) of 14 forest plant species for cancer cure and other desease. The herbal extract from the bark of lawang (Cinnamomum cullilawan Bl) was identified containing alkaloids, while flavonoids was detected in the extract from consecutively lingkeube (Dischidia imbricata Steud) leaves, yantan (Blumea chinensis Dc) leaves, ketapang (Terminalia catappa L.) bark, manumpang (Loranthus globulus Jacq) bark, tanduk rusa stems, kayu gimto (Ligodyum sp) roots, rumput balsam (Polygala paniculata L.) roots, and cakar kucing (Acalypha indica L) roots. The leaves of luhu (Crotalaria retusa L) and kehung-kehung (Crotalaria striata Dc) containing steroids and tannins. As many as 9 out of 12 n-butanol extracts afforded toxicity efficacy against larvae of Artemia salina Leach which was confirmed through the LC₅₀ value, i.e. bellow 1000 ppm. Further, the least LC₅₀ value was achieved using the petroleum eter-extract kehung-kehung (Crotalaria striata Dc) leaves, i.e. 68.33 ppm, whereby that value approached the effectiveness standard for bioactive compounds to fight against the cancer cell, which was based on the United States National Cancer Institute

Buffer zone management is an integrated practice of managing forest and agriculture land based on biophysical nature of region and social-culture combination to obtain an optimum forest and agriculture products that support local livelihood economy. The study was to identify the community land use patterns that shapes the buffer zone of Aketajawe Lolobata National Park particularly at Aketajawe block. Sampling villages were determined by stratification based on the distance from the National Park boundary which varied between 5 km. The purposive random sampling was chosen 82 respondents to be interviewed. Land use pattern which applied by communities were divided into six groups according to cultivated commodities i.e. community forest, mixed garden, monoculture garden, intercropping garden, horticulture and rice fields. The differences of these patterns were influenced by background and origin of communities. The indigenous people of Halmahera island used their land as mixed garden while the settler used theirs as rice field and horticulture. Based on the land cover quality, mixed garden pattern was more similar to forest vegetation than another pattern. Rice field pattern gave the largest economic contribution while community forest gave the lowest contribution to the farmer's income

Mulberry is an important feed for increasing the productivity in cocoons on silkworm cultivation. Mulberry having a high nutrition is very important. This is because the nutritional value is the most important factor influencing the quality and quantity of cocoons and silk. Therefore, the development of improved mulberry accompanied with an appropriate cultivation technique is necessary. This study aims to determine the effect of fertilization and trimming on the leaves productivity of three species of mulberry planted in a demonstration plot in Rurukan, Tomohon, North Sulawesi. The three species of mulberry used in this study are mulberry of SULI 01, Morus cathayana and M. canva which were tested under three types of fertilizer: Taikam, Petroganik and manure. The trimming test was only practiced for the two species of M. cathayana dan M. canva with three trimming height of 30 cm, 45 cm and 60 cm above the ground. All the tests were arranged under a completely randomized factorial design. The genetic materials of mulberry were supplied from Forest Productivity Research and Development Center in Bogor. The measured parameters were diameter and height of plant, and leaves production. The results showed that in general the fertilization had no effect on leaves productivity for all of the tested species of mulberry. The application of Taikam and manure only affected the growth of diameter and height of mulberry plant. The trimming treatment provided a difference of leaves productivity between the two species of mulberry. The highest leaf production for M. canva (639.61 gr) was found at trimming of 45 cm, while for M. cathayana was found at trimming of 60 cm (482.40 gr)
