"This thing has life!" : construction and updating of the field around women's rights and gender equality in Mozambique

Isso foi feito a partir e através das trajectórias pessoais e profissionais de mulheres e homens de quatro gerações que fazem parte deste campo ¿ como activistas, como académicas, como pertencentes a organizações e associações de mulheres ou como artistas - assim como de uma etnografia dos espaços e eventos por onde estes circulam, da análise da constituição de um campo de reflexão teórica e da demanda por reformulações na legislação em prol dos direitos das mulheres. O foco são as reflexões teóricas e analíticas que as diferentes gerações foram tecendo ao longo das suas trajetórias, em particular os temas, as problemáticas, os dilemas, os avanços e os desafios que foram surgindo a partir de 1975, com a independência de Moçambique. Para tal, o universo empírico da pesquisa integrou as mulheres e homens enraizadas/os nos seus contextos históricos e sociais e a rede de organizações e instituições por onde circulam. A pesquisa de campo, realizada na cidade de Maputo entre Março e Setembro de 2017, baseou-se na realização de entrevistas semi-estruturadas a estes actores, assim como no acompanhamento de uma série de atividades e eventos organizados e realizados pela rede de organizações e instituições às quais estes estão associados e pelas quais transitam. Também foi feito o mapeamento e análise de uma parte da produção intelectual de alguns actores e dos processos de construção de algumas reformas legais. As entrevistas e os outros materiais permitiram mapear as histórias e os caminhos pessoais e profissionais de cada uma das mulheres e homens, das organizações de mulheres, assim como a constituição e a manifestação das suas identidades profissionais e activistas, além de compreender as problemáticas em torno das questões de género e dos direitos das mulheres em MoçambiqueAbstract: This research aims to understand the construction and updating of the field around women's rights and gender equality in Mozambique. This was done from and through the personal and professional trajectories of women and men of four generations that are part of this field - as activists, as academics, as belonging to women's organizations and associations or as artists - as well as through an ethnography of spaces and events where they circulate, from the analysis of the constitution of a theoretical reflection field and the demand for reformulations in the legislation in favor of women's rights. The focus is on the theoretical and analytical reflections that different generations have been weaving throughout their trajectories, in particular the themes, problems, dilemmas, advances and challenges that have emerged since 1975, with the independence of Mozambique. To this end, the empirical universe of research has integrated women and men rooted in their historical and social contexts and the network of organizations and institutions where they circulate. The field research, carried out in the city of Maputo between March and September 2017, was based on the realization of semi-structured interviews to these actors, as well as the monitoring of a series of activities and events organized and carried out by the network of organizations and institutions with which they are associated and through which they transit. The mapping and analysis of part of the intellectual production of some actors and the construction processes of some legal reforms were also carried out. Our Stories: Cartography of a Conflict
Get PDFThis photo-essay, entitled ‘Our Stories: Cartography of a Conflict’, is born from the fieldwork carried out in the scope of the research ‘Past, Present and Future in the Voice of Women and Girls Affected by the Conflict in Cabo Delgado: A Feminist Analysis’, as a way of naming and disseminating the diversity of voices of displaced women, and broadening the visibility of their stories, which have very often been reduced to statistics. The aim of this article is to share their perceptions and demands, their stories and journeys in search of security and possible horizons for their re-existence. This photo-essay shows that women displaced and affected by the conflict need to be named, singularised in their aspirations, needs and struggles. Their life stories are the reason for this work. It is their pain and resilience, their desires, their invisible and visible powers, their strategies for rebuilding their lives, families and communities that we want to make known. Their voices need to be heard, read, understood and placed at the centre of all governmental and civil society interventions for reconstruction, humanitarian response and peacebuilding in Cabo Delgado. Each woman participating in this photo-essay has chosen to share her story and her face, and has decided how to be photographed and represented, with the desire that somehow their trajectories become sources of direct knowledge to guide the paths to Peace in the province. They want to be known and recognised in their dignity, in their determination and perseverance, as well as in their deepest needs. The story of each woman shared in this article is a local and national reference to build a nonviolent future in Mozambique
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
