Thesis (Ph.D.)-University of Durban-Westville, 2001.'Allamah Anwar Shah Kashmiri (d.1933) was one of the most distinguished Islamic scholars of the Indo-Pak Subcontinent. He was recognised as an authority on 'Ilm al-Hadith (the science of Hadith). His works on Hadith won him the title of Shaykh al- Hadith (an expert in the field of Hadith) and was also acclaimed as a Muhaddith (scholar of Hadith). Although 'Allamah Anwar Shah Kashmiri's speciality was primarily in the field of the science of Hadith, he was equally competent to teach and write in other relevant Islamic sciences such as, al-Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence) and 'Ulum al-Qur'an (Qur'anic Sciences), etc. His research and findings sometimes led to him engaging into intense intellectual debates with other Muslim scholars in various parts of India. He had a passion for Hadith and he spent all his life teaching the Sihah Sittah (The Six Authentic Collections of Hadith). Students used to flock to the institutions where he taught and it was considered an honour and privilege to study under him. 'Allamah Anwar Shah Kashmiri's contribution in the field of Hadith benefited and continue to benefit scholars and students alike to this day. To date no systematic study on the life and works of 'Allamah Anwar Shah Kashmiri has as yet been accomplished in the English language. Biographies on him exist in the Urdu language and they are mostly of a popular nature and have generally not discussed in detail his academic uniqueness and peculiarities. Thus, the objectives of this study will be to: 1. Discuss the evolution of the Islamic institutions of Islamic learning in India and what impact it had in moulding and shaping the intellectual pursuit of 'Allamah Anwar Shah Kashmiri. 2. Analyze his literary works and assess his contributions in the field of the science of Hadith and Hadith literature. 3. Examine his unique position and individual stance on matters pertaining to Tafsir al-Qur'an (Qur'anic Exegesis), 'Ilm al-Hadith (the Science of Hadith) and some Fiqhi (legal) issues

Energy harvesting and wireless transfer in sensor network applications: Concepts and experiences

    No full text
Advances in micro-electronics and miniaturized mechanical systems are redefining the scope and extent of the energy constraints found in battery-operated wireless sensor networks (WSNs). On one hand, ambient energy harvesting may prolong the systems lifetime or possibly enable perpetual operation. On the other hand, wireless energy transfer allows systems to decouple the energy sources from the sensing locations, enabling deployments previously unfeasible. As a result of applying these technologies to WSNs, the assumption of a finite energy budget is replaced with that of potentially infinite, yet intermittent, energy supply, profoundly impacting the design, implementation, and operation of WSNs. This article discusses these aspects by surveying paradigmatic examples of existing solutions in both fields and by reporting on real-world experiences found in the literature. The discussion is instrumental in providing a foundation for selecting the most appropriate energy harvesting or wireless transfer technology based on the application at hand. We conclude by outlining research directions originating from the fundamental change of perspective that energy harvesting and wireless transfer bring about

ISU ISLAMISASI ILMU PENGETAHUAN DALAM PEMIKIRAN MUHAMMAD MUMTAZ ALI

    No full text
Muslim scholars or scientists are currently faced with a dilemma of thought and actions in responding to the challenges of the globalization. On the one hand, the onslaught of western thought such as secularism and liberalism is very strong, while on the other hand they must maintain the principles of Islamic law. So that their actions do not come out of Islamic law, it is very important for Muslim scientists to understand the concept of Islamization of Science. The figure who initiated this thought was Prof. Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas who then continues until now, one of them is Muhammad Mumtaz Ali. Muhammad Mumtaz Ali's works related to the Islamization of Science emphasize the importance of prioritizing the Islamization of science for Muslim scientists. The spirit of Islamization must continue to be strengthened for the advancement of Muslims. The vision and mission of the Islamization of Science will be difficult to achieve if Muslims are not united to achieve it. All Muslim scientists in various fields of knowledge are expected to understand Islamic law well, so that the knowledge they spread will not conflict with the rules of Allah SWT

    No full text
This research presents a comparative analysis between the Tarjuman Al-Mustafid book with Anwar At-Tanzil's commentary, and Jalalain's commentary with a focus only on magic verses starting from Surah Al-Fatihah, Al-Baqarah verse 102, and Al-Falaq. The research method used is a qualitative approach focused on library research with the main data coming from the books of Tarjuman Al-Mustafid, Tafsir Anwar At-Tanzil, and Tafsir Jalalain. The results of the research show that there is quite a big influence from Anwar At-Tanzil's interpretation and Jalalain's interpretation on Tarjuman Al-Mustafid in terms of the systematic writing and meaning of the verses. One important factor in the relationship with the interpretation of Jalalain is Abdurrauf's intellectual connection with Jalaluddin As-Suyuti, the author of the interpretation of Jalalain. Apart from that, Anwar At-Tanzil's tafsir is also an important reference source in writing this tafsir, as stated on the cover of Tarjuman Al-Mustafid's tafsir. In understanding the magic verses, Abdurrauf is more inclined or agrees with Tafsir Jalalain because it is used as a reference, and is influential when providing a more general explanation.
