Naar een aidocratie: conclusies
Een meritocratisch systeem is superieur aan een maatschappelijke ordening op basis van afkomst. Het is rechtvaardiger, biedt individuen betere ontplooiingkansen en biedt de samenleving als geheel het meeste profijt van individueel talent. Een meritocratie is rechtvaardiger in die zin dat naarmate individuen meer verdienstelijk zijn voor de samenleving, zij daarvoor meer worden beloond met status, macht en inkomen. Een meritocratie biedt ook optimale ontplooiingsmogelijkheden voor individuen, doordat allen, ongeacht afkomst, daartoe gelijke kansen krijgen. En een meritocratie zorgt er tevens voor dat talent en verdienste de samenleving optimaal ten goede komen. Deze positieve waardering van meritocratie werd in alle hoofdstukken bevestigd. Maar ook werd in alle hoofdstukken uitgebreid stilgestaan bij de nadelen en risico’s van de meritocratie en werden voorstellen gedaan om deze te beperken. In dit slothoofdstuk brengen we die nadelen en voorstellen samen onder vier hoofdpunten, en pleiten op basis daarvan voor een aidocratie - een samenleving waarin iedereen een gelijke kans heeft op (zelf )respect - die op vier peilers rust. Ten slotte schetsen we in de stijl van Michael Young hoe zo’n aidocratie er in het jaar 2034 uit zou kunnen zien

On the equilibrium problem and infinitesimal mechanisms of class theta tensegrity systems
This work presents a study on the equilibrium problem and the infinitesimal mechanisms of class θ= 1 tensegrity prisms. Local solutions of the self-equilibrium problem are numerically obtained through Newton-Raphson iterations. The presented results suggest that the analyzed structures can be usefully employed as building blocks of novel tensegrity metamaterials, due to their rich kinematic response and the considerably large number of infinitesimal mechanisms. © 2019 Author(s)
Introduction:Enhancing ethical reflection in the laboratory: How soft impacts require tough thinking
The lives of contemporary men and women are entangled with technology. The alarm clock that wakes them in the morning, the clothes they put on, the food they eat, the ways they move around, the heated and air-conditioned environments they reside in, their means of communication, their entertainment (television, movies, games, books)—all are examples of technological artefacts that many people use every day. These technological artefacts don’t fulfil their purposes by themselves, but depend on specific practices to do so. Sometimes these are modest, like knowing how to set the alarm; sometimes they are more complex like driving a car or handling a computer. Furthermore, all artefacts and their accompanying practices also presuppose that certain background conditions have been fulfilled (sclove 1995). Picking up the jar of peanut butter on the breakfast table and asking where it comes from, who produced it and how, and how it arrived here reveals a long, heterogeneous and complex network of people, things and activities, such as farming skills, the production of fertilisers, flying and driving licenses, planes and cars, roads, road maintenance, petrol stations, traffic rules, police and so forth.keywordsmoral philosophertechnology actorbritish petroleumtechnological artefactresponsible innovationthese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. The family of the future: how technologies can lead to moral change
We increasingly rely on technological artefacts for supporting or replacing personal interactions. But such delegation is not always unproblematic: ever so often unexpected alterations in our relationships occur. More particularly: new technologies tend to destabilize established norms and values. What does this techno-moral change imply for the normative project that is responsible innovation? is it possible to anticipate these alterations, at least to some extent? in this article we develop a heuristic matrix that identifies patterns and mechanisms of techno-moral change.
