This research analyzes the management of immigration and the human rights of refugees in Europe and Latin America between the year 2015 and 2024, through a comparative view of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS) and the Brazil Action Plan 2015. In an academic structure of three chapters, the author analysis the issues of international protection, migration, refuge and international humanitarian law, taken to the reality of two fundamental scenarios of migration crisis: Latin America and Europe. Not all the legislations of both regions can be used as a case study to make a diagnosis on the management of asylum, refuge and migrants. For this reason, CEAS and Brazil\u27s Action Plan (2015) were taken as management mechanisms for the review. The comparative view of this work will allow us to understand the differences of these chosen structures. This is a result of great relevance for the analysis and understanding of the current international sociopolitical reality. Reality plagued by conflicts, violations and crises, human avalanches in border crossings. These people are betting on a safer and better future for their lives. This research analyzes the management of immigration and the human rights of refugees in Europe and Latin America between the year 2015 and 2024 through a comparative view of the Common European Asylum System CEAS and the Brazil Action Plan 2015 In an academic structure of three chapters the author analysis the issues of international protection migration refuge and international humanitarian law taken to the reality of two fundamental scenarios of migration crisis Latin America and Europe Not all the legislations of both regions can be used as a case study to make a diagnosis on the management of asylum refuge and migrants For this reason CEAS and Brazil s Action Plan 2015 were taken as management mechanisms for the review The comparative view of this work will allow us to understand the differences of these chosen structures This is a result of great relevance for the analysis and understanding of the current international sociopolitical reality Reality plagued by conflicts violations and crises human avalanches in border crossings These people are betting on a safer and better future for their live

La carta-relato de Maximiliano Transilvano sobre la expedición de Magallanes-Elcano. Primera vuelta al mundo (1519-1522)

The first published account of Magellan and Elcano ́s expedition (1519-1522), the first to circumnavigate the world, was the work of Maximilianus Transilvanus, secretary of Emperor Charles I of Spain, in the form of a letter written in Latin, addressed to M. Lang, Cardinal of Salzburg, the month following the arrival in Seville of the survivors of the voyage. The author takes his information from these survivors, mainly from Elcano, the captain of the only one of the five ships that began the voyage to arrive back in the Spanish port. Our work principally consists of carrying out the critical editing and translation of the document, especially from the first editions of the text. In the brief introduction, we also deal with other points such as the figure of Transilvano, the content of his narration and the description of the editions and manuscripts that transmit the work; El primer relato publicado sobre la expedición de Magallanes y Elcano (1519-1522), que supuso la primera vuelta al mundo, fue obra de Maximiliano Transilvano, secretario del emperador Carlos I de España, bajo el formato de una carta escrita en latín, dirigida a M. Lang, cardenal de Salzburgo, al mes siguiente de la llegada a Sevilla de los supervivientes del viaje.

Two Außenseiter with very different origins can be found on the inventory of forgotten authors - even if the Swiss writer has experienced a (albeit, delayed) renaissance. They have both bequeathed an extraordinarily original contribution to German language literature, a contribution which is essentially poetic in Wagner’s case and fundamentally written in prose in the case of Walser. Such notable contributions have nonetheless rarely been taken into major consideration, and while there may be some studies on the individual authors, there certainly have never been any from a comparative perspective. The significant resemblances between the two writers, which are, in the opinion of this author, not only evident in relation to literary elements, but also with regard to their intellectual world, to their conception of life or, even, to their personal lives, invite a detailed presentation of the connections between these two authors. That is precisely the objective of this article

Insect Antifeedant Components of Senecio fistulosus var. fistulosus—Hualtata

© The Author(s).From a bioactive methanolic extract of Senecio fistulosus, the antifeedant effects of the alkaloidal and non-alkaloidal fractions were tested against the insects Spodoptera littoralis, Myzus persicae and Rhopalosiphum padi, with the non-alkaloidal fraction being antifeedant. The phytochemical study of the non-alkaloidal fraction of S. fistulosus, resulted in the isolation of four compounds, two 9-oxo-furanoeremophilanes (1, 2), an eremophilanolide, 1β,10β-epoxy-6-acetoxy-8α-hydroxy-eremofil-7(11)-en-8β,12-olide (3) and a maaliol derivative (4). The alkaloidal fraction yielded two known pyrrolizidine alkaloids (5, 6). Compounds 1, 3 and 4 are new natural products. Furanoeremophilane 2 was a strong antifeedant against S. littoralis and maaliane 4 inhibited the settling of M. persicaeThis work has been supported by grants CTQ2015-64049-C3-1-R, (MINECO/FEDER), UMAG 027103-026703 (Dirección de Investigación, Chile) and a JAEPRE-DOC-CSIC predoctoral fellowship to L.R.V.Peer reviewe

Prospects of equitable and sustainable seaweed aquaculture : a case study of changing gender and socio-economic relations in Maullín, Chile

No full text
This article examines the development of marine tenure in the Maullín River, Chile. It starts with the emergence of artisanal red algae (Gracilaria chilensis) gathering and the changes resulting from the governmental ad hoc allocation of small-scale aquaculture concessions. We aim to track this transition, its drivers, effects on the work organization, gender relations, market relations and the sustainability/equity challenges currently confronting the community. We use a feminist political ecology approach to direct our multi-method data collection strategy and to analyse the empirical material. The State by enabling local tenure for the development of marine aquaculture concessions played an influential role in Maullín community attaining de facto territorial tenure. This led to the establishment of residential aquaculture communities while facilitating the integration of women in aquaculture activities. We see both steps as positive economic and social development opportunities in Maullín. While marine tenure has provided livelihood chances, low prices caused by the producers’ disadvantaged market position and the lack of supportive alliance building pose ongoing problems. We conclude that these factors are serious challenges to the sustainability of aquacultural livelihoods at Maullín River. While the case depicts aspects of women’s empowerment such as their engagement in developing potential post-production innovation ideas, entrepreneurial abilities to conduct market transactions as well as their better competence in literacy, math and financial expertise, there is still a long way to reach gender equality in the male-dominated aquacultural sector. © 2024, The Author(s).</p

Speciation of chilean Rhinocryptidae (Avian) based on their behaviour

Get PDF
The current classification of the chilean representatives of the passerine family Rhinocryptidae includes eight species. Three of them contain subspecies that don't exhibit clear differences. Moreover, differences among two lineages of _Scytalopus_ genera and two species of _Pteroptochos_ are cryptic. We propose a new methodology based on ecological and behavioural patterns in order to understand the concept of speciation in this group of birds. According to our results, we postulate that there is not a cut criteria to establish differences among three sister lineages of current classification. This way the methodology developed by us does not allow to establish divergence for a given common ancestor. Our methodology allows to establish comparison among previously determined phylogenetic lineages. Our results show how when integrating behaviour and ecological terms as biological traits next to morphological characters of the plumage, it allows us to conclude that there is decrease of the distances among sister lineages in the cluster tree

Changing dogma regarding the conformation of electron transferring menaquinone (MK)

Get PDF
2017 Spring.Includes bibliographical references.Menaquinone-9 (MK-9) is the natural substrate containing a naphthoquinone and an isoprenyl side-chain with nine isoprene units that carry out the electron transfer for the Mycobacterium tuberculosis. We present studies aiming to understand the chemical and biochemical properties of hydrophobic MK molecules. Specifically, we are investigating the MK derivative with two isoprene units, MK-2, because it provides us with the base structure containing the naphthoquinone unit and the isoprene side-chain. Its synthesis is relatively simple because the precursors are commercially available, which allows for large scale preparation and detailed characterization of the molecular structure under different conditions. Using 1D and 2D 1H NMR studies we are establishing that MKs have different conformations depending on the specific environmental conditions. Similarly, we show using 1H-1H 2D NOESY NMR studies that the association of MK with the surfactant- water interface of reverse micelles, which is a model membrane system, modify the conformation of the menaquinone derivative. Finally, the redox potentials of MK-2 was measured in the three different solvents (DMSO, CH3CN and pyridine). We hypothesize that the redox potential is correlated to the conformational of the MK. We observed that the redox potentials varied with solvent. The observed folded structures of MK derivatives stand in contrast to the linear conformation shown in life science text books
