Selçuk Baran, one of the women of letters in the Republican Era, is one of our infectious writes whose literature success was recognized after his death. Although he received law education, he turned towards literature, which he had interested in since his childhood, and mostly wrote short stories. In his works, he gave place for unhappy, desperate women and men who could not hold on to life. The author, being introvert, experienced the sadness of not being noticed in the literary circles and wrote about this in his dairies before his death. In spite of all these, the author, whose quality in language and style won general approval after his death, is one of the important names in our literature. The aim of this thesis is to study Selçuk Baran in terms of his ?Life, Works and Art?. Thus, the position of the author in Turkish Literature will be determined definitely

Traditionally regarded as apolitical, the poetical work by Józef Baran aclually represents a lucid and coherent attempt to vindicate human dignity. Consequently, an ultimate concern of this poetry is the reason of suffering, while a recurrent topic is a self-restrained sense of carpe diem, which often leads to an enlightening inquity into perennial metaphysical questions (life, death, eternity, God). Baran's Poetics rather reflects his main concerns and his personal ethics: his distinctive, personal style (plain, direct, sometimes ironic, sometimes lyric, resembies a dialogic resort, which consciously urges his reader to jointly discuss those philosophical questions raised by the author in his poems

General Clauses that Define the Scope of Contractual Freedom in Concluded Settlements in Disputes Between the Employee and the Employer

    No full text
This paper aims to present the issue of general clauses that define the scope of contractual freedom in settlements which have been concluded in disputes between the employee and the employer. The aspect of mutual concessions is also discussed. The violation of the problem of justified interest is considered. The paper shows that general clauses are not mutually exclusive, but usually overlap in a settlement. Therefore, a given settlement may violate various general clauses. The vagueness of their conceptual scopes sometimes generates significant practical problems worth to be [email protected] Baran – professor, head of the Labor Law and Social Policy Department of the Jagiellonian University, Poland. The 53rd Annual Medical Student Research Forum at UT Southwestern Medical Center (Monday, January 26, 2015, 2-5 p.m., D1.602)INTRODUCTION: Aspiration pneumonia can follow transoral surgery for head and neck cancer due to abnormal swallowing function. While prophylactic post-operative antibiotics may decrease the incidence of this complication, excessive use can be costly, and lead to adverse reactions or antibiotic resistance. The objectives of this study are to 1) determine if the use post-op antibiotics prevent aspiration pneumonia. 2) Identify any complications related to the use of antibiotics. METHODS: A retrospective review of 155 patients who underwent transoral surgery for squamous cell carcinoma (SCCA) between May 2008 and June 2014 was conducted and demographic data was collected. The MD Anderson dysphagia inventory (MDADI) was used to assess swallowing function. RESULTS: Sixteen of 122 patients that received postoperative antibiotics (13.1%) developed pneumonia, compared to 4/32(12.5%) patients who did not receive antibiotics (p=0.925). Average antibiotic course was 39.2 days (median=23). Average time to infection was 290 days (median=217, range=11-979). Univariate analysis did not show a correlation between patients that developed pneumonia and antibiotic use (p=1.00), location (p=.1642), overall stage (p=.1599), comorbidity status (p=.5327), tobacco use (p=.6328), alcohol use (p=.351), and gastrostomy tube dependence (p=.254). Univariate analysis did show a correlation between pneumonia and tracheostomy placement (p=.0316), T stage (p=.0357), and days post-op of PEG placement (p=.0297). Multivariate analysis showed correlation with tracheostomy placement (p=.0236). No patients contracted C. difficile infection. No trend was observed in post-operative MDADI score. DISCUSSION: Routine use of post-operative prophylactic antibiotic does not correlate with a decreased rate of pneumonia or improved functional outcomes. Given that tracheostomies are performed mainly for pulmonary toilet, and a larger T stage results in larger resections, the significant correlation was expected. PEG placement in pneumonia patients was significantly later than patients with no pneumonia. This, and the fact that pneumonia generally developed outside of the 30-day perioperative period, supports the idea that aspiration pneumonia development reflects a chronic worsening swallowing dysfunction. Therefore, dysphagia immediately after surgery is probably not a significant risk factor for developing aspiration pneumonia and routine post-operative antibiotic use for pneumonia prevention is not indicated after transoral surgery.Southwestern Medical Foundatio

This internship report contains an explanation of the internship activities carried out at PT Aldebaran Rekayasa Cipta. The main task during the internship period was to create a user interface for the Baran Powerhome product for state of charge and battery status information. The author was also assigned to make a calculator to calculate the savings from the use of solar panels in a day. In the last week, the author was given the opportunity to help the marketing team of Baran Energy to answer technical questions about the Powerhome system, how it works, how many users need, and to conduct a site surve

Claudio Napoleoni e il Capitale monopolistico di Baran e Sweezy

The article introduces the present issue, which focuses on Marxist interpretations of the crisis. The author describes and puts into context Claudio Napoleoni’s interpretation of the labour theory of value and Baran and Sweezy’s Monopoly Capital. The article highlights how Napoleoni’s interpretation, which was at the time very unconventional, was later substantiated by the publication of new material by the two US economists (Sweezy in particular). The author concludes with some reflections of the applicability of Napoleoni’s ideas to the current stage of capitalism
