Word and text analysis has become an alternative method to examine social and psychological problems when other common methods could not access the internal workings of a participant’s psyche. This study shows that text analysis, as an alternative method, is capable to identify important psychological aspects contained in the song lyrics written by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) with regard to his strategic role as a country and political leader. Three main aspects are identified: emotion, achievement, and harmony. The lyrics of 23 Indonesian songs written by SBY have been gathered for the purpose of analysis. Three studies were carried out to analyze the psychological aspects contained in SBY’s song lyrics. Firstly, the author applied algoritma kata (AK – word algorithm) to identify the degrees of valence and arousal in each song using the word count method. Secondly, the author applied analisis lirik keseluruhan (ALK – the whole lyric analysis) to assess the valence and arousal in every song by means of human judgment. Third, the author applied expert judgment (EJ) to analyze the dominant words that emerge in all song lyrics. This study shows that SBY’s song albums have consistently shown a positive valence and an increasing level of arousal from 2006 to 2014. In addition to that, EJ method shows that those dominant words represent SBY’s two most prominent psychological aspects: achievement and harmony

More talk than walk: Indonesia as a foreign policy actor

Indonesia is unlikely to become a significantly influential international actor in the medium term, despite its size, strategic location and economic potential. Key findings: Indonesia’s influence in international affairs is growing, but it will not become a major power in the short to medium term. Facing public pressure to exert influence globally, Indonesia will pursue a far-reaching foreign policy agenda, but without the resources to flex its muscles in support of its ideas. Countries can engage now on regional and global issues that are important to Indonesia and that help it be seen as a global player, thereby building trust and relationships that are a long term investment in Indonesia’s future potential

Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) and Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH): Study of biochemical markers Free Fatty Acid (FFA), Total Antioxidant Status (TAOS), Adiponectin, Transforming Growth Factor (TGF-beta1), in occurence of NASH

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in USA and Makassar are 22% and 23.7%. The prevalence of Non Alcoholic Steatosis Hepatosis (NASH) in MetS has not been reported. Study in Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) is 25–90 % in obesity patients. In NASH, there is accumulation of lipid in hepatocyte (raised free fatty acid level), raised stress oxidative (decreased total antioxidant status), raised of inflammation process (decreased adiponectin) and hepatic fibrotic process (raised TGF β1). The aim of this study is to investigate the correlation of free fatty acid, total antioxidant status, adiponectin and TGF-β1 with the occurrence of NASH. METHODS: This was a case control study in man aged ≥30 years old. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) was defined by IDF categories. NASH was defined as fatty liver plus raised type IV collagen level ≥140 ng/ml and Alanine Transferase (ALT) level 1.5x upper normal limit. RESULTS: The samples consisted of 8 MetS subjects, 11 MetS subjects with fatty liver and 2 MetS subjects with suspect NASH. Low level of adiponectin and high level free fatty acid led to progression from Fatty Liver (FL) to NASH. Level of total antioxidant and Level of TGF-β1 were relatively steady in NASH. CONCLUSIONS: The level of Free Fatty acid in subjects with MetS-FL was higher than in subjects with MetS, but was lower than in subjects with MetS-NASH. No difference in total antioxidants status level was observed among all groups. Level of adiponectin decreased in subjects with MetS-FL and MetS-NASH compared with subjects with MetS only. The level of TGF-β1 increased in subjects with MetS-FL more than in subjects with MetS only, and was steady low in subjects with MetS-NASH. KEYWORDS: metabolic syndrome, NASH, free fatty acid, total antioxidant status, adiponectin, transforming growth factor β1

Density of a Reintroduced Population of Bornean Orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus) in Pristine and Disturbed Forest Areas, Sungai Wain Protection Forest, East Kalimantan, Indonesia

Sungai Wain Protection Forest is among the final extant primary lowland coastal forests remaining in East Kalimantan (Fredriksson and Nijman, 2004). From 1992-1997 82 formerly captive Bornean orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus) were released in Sungai Wain Protection Forest through the Wanariset Orangutan Reintroduction Project (Russon and Susilo, 1999). Forest fires burned approximately 60% of the reserve in 1998 (Fredriksson and Nijman, 2004). An extensive nest census conducted in 1998 produced an estimate of 13-17 orangutans remaining in Sungai Wain Protection Forest (Russon and Susilo, 1999). Very little research has been conducted on this reintroduced population of orangutans since the 1998 nest survey. In this study, a new nest survey will be conducted in order to produce a current estimate of orangutan densities in Sungai Wain Protection Forest. Orangutan density estimates in the primary forest area will be compared to densities in areas of forest which have been disturbed by fires

Abstract: Epiphany is a crucial event encountered by an individual which gives him/her an insight in his/her journey of meaning making to life. This qualitative research aims at finding out epiphany of  RII represented in her anthology of short stories, novelets, novels. The research has found out that RII, as a diffable figure, is mentally capable of creating extraordinary works which are: (a) useful for others, (b) inspiring, (c) affecting surrounding people to be stronger, and (d) mostly true-story based. As a writer, RII's epiphany covers three main issues, i.e. (i) humanity epiphany, (ii) femininity epiphany, and (iii) diffability epiphany. permalink/DOI: dx.doi.org/10.17977/um015v46i12018p04

Recent trends in travel behaviour and passenger transport fuel use: A comparison of the Netherlands and the United Kingdom

    No full text
The transport sector is the largest and fastest growing consumer of energy in Europe, which poses a serious threat to Europe’s climate and environment. Over recent decades, increases in passenger and freight transport movements have both been responsible for this growth. These trends can be observed in most European countries including the Netherlands and the United Kingdom (UK), where per capita transport fuel consumption increased by 9% and 4% respectively in the relatively short period between 2000 and 2006 (and by 37% and 16% respectively between 1990 and 2006). In many ways, general travel patterns in these two countries have not changed substantially during this period: total travel distance, average travel speed and travel time have all remained fairly constant. What has changed, however, is car occupancy, the type and age of vehicles on the road and the average number of trips, all of which have contributed to changes in energy consumption in the passenger transport sector. In this paper we focus on trends in individual mobility and related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, which are a close proxy for fuel consumption and total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from transport. National travel data for the Netherlands and the UK from 2000 onwards are used to examine these trends. We construct a classification of individuals based on their travel patterns and related CO2 emissions with the aim of identifying the key socio-economic characteristics of individuals with high and low CO2 emissions. We then examine the extent to which these socio-economic characteristics are similar in both countries. Preliminary analyses reveal that in both countries around 10% of the population is responsible for almost half of all CO2 emissions in the passenger transport sector. At the other end of the spectrum, half the population is responsible for only 10-20% of passenger transportrelated CO2 emissions. Substantial differences in individual transport CO2 emissions are apparent according to socio-economic characteristics such as age, gender, income and employment status.Urban and Regional DevelopmentOTB Research Institut

Introduction. The maternal mortality ratio (MMR) in Indonesia reaches 359 per 100,000 live births. The long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) method is an effective contraceptive choice for reducing MMR. The contraceptive implant is one of the LARCs that has low usage due to lack of education about the side effects. This study aims to compare the menstrual pattern and characteristics between one-rod and two-rod levonorgestrel implant users. Methods. A prospective cohort study was performed in patients at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) from March 2016 to May 2018. Subject recruitment was done by consecutive sampling. This study was conducted from March 2016 until May 2019. Statistical analysis was performed on the data using the chi-square test to determine the relationship between menstrual pattern and characteristics, and the use of one-rod or two-rod levonorgestrel implants. Results. A total of 140 subjects participated in the study, comprising 70 (50%) one-rod users and 70 (50%) two-rod users. In the first month, 32.9% one-rod users experienced amenorrhea, 22.9% experienced shortened menstrual period, 30% experienced normal menstrual period, and 14,2 % experienced lengthened menstrual period. In comparison, in the first month, 41.4% two-rod users experienced amenorrhea, 15.7% experienced shortened menstrual period, 32.9% experienced normal menstrual period, and 10% experienced lengthened menstrual period. There was no significant difference in menstrual patterns and characteristics between one-rod and two-rod levonorgestrel implant users. Conclusion. There was no significant difference in menstrual patterns and characteristics between one-rod and two-rod levonorgestrel implant users. Implications. Menstrual patterns and characteristics from levonorgestrel implants user can help clinicians to reduce discontinuation rate from the acceptors. Further research should be conducted to know other side effects aside from menstrual bleeding patterns
