The author shows how some hope linked to real opportunities for newly developing democracies is inherent in the globalization of law processes. She also indicates the obstacles that arise along this road. Skapska Grazyna. No Hope ? An Essay on Globalization Theories and the Legal Institution Building Processes in Postcommunist Europe.

Views of the normative ordering of everyday life. As in the case of Ch. Kourilsky's article, the author bases herself on the data of the comparative study on juridical socialization, in pre-adult years, which was undertaken in 1987-1988 ; she offers an analysis of views of the concept of private law among children and adolescents in Poland. This leads her to the conclusion that communist ideology's effort to inculcate the notion of collective ownership has been a failure. At the same time, the progressive deterioration of order in everyday life under the socialist regime has brought about a "destruction of social norms", in particular, within the framework of juridical socialization, a change in the view that the individual has of himself as the possessor of rights.

    No full text
Theoretical background: 19th century psychology shed light on child morality and its main processes. Psychoanalysis, cognitive and evolutionary psychology described different moral developmental trajectories during childhood, underlining the part played by early relational interactions and representational processes, the crucial role of cognition, and the need for interindividual connectedness. Objective: Our review focuses on Grazyna Kochanska’s work on the early determinants of Moral Conscience. By describing Moral Conscience as an autonomous inner guiding system which encompasses three interrelated systems – emotional, behavioral and cognitive - Kochanska’s body of research makes it possible to consider within a coherent framework the different aspects peculiar to child’s morality described by the main psychological fields during last century. Method: We reviewed some of Kochanska’s most representative articles, summarizing relevant data and illustrating the processes that in the author’s view tie together phases and peculiarities of an early development of Moral Conscience. Critical discussion and conclusions: Within an integrated framework, the author describes the emergence of a Moral Conscience through the interplay of moral emotions, behaviors and cognitions both in relation to child’s temperament and as shaped by his early caregiving matrix. By so doing, Kochanska see Moral Conscience as a sophisticated system with early onset and evolving through infancy in order to guide the child in adjusting his behavior in a context-appropriate way

Arthroplasty of the knee six months after surgery, the return to fitness Grazyna Maksimczyk-Wrona1, Maciej Ornat2, Wojciech Tokarski3, Eleonora Mess1 1Department of Oncology and Palliative Care at the Medical University in Wroclaw 2Department of Histology and Embryology, Department of Human Morphology and Embryology, Medical University of Wroclaw 3Branch orthopedic rehabilitation, Kurparkklinik Dr. Lauterbach-Klinik GmbH Heinrich-Mann, Bad Liebenstein Summary Degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis) is a chronic disorder of the musculoskeletal system, which significantly reduces the efficiency of movement and daily functioning difficult. The last twenty years is a huge progress in the diagnosis and treatment of degenerative changes in the knee joint. Currently knee replacement is a fundamental activity in patients with large destructive changes in the joint. Studies carried out in the clinic Trauma Surgery at the University Teaching Hospital in Wroclaw, str. Borowski group of 105 patients. In this study, we observed that there was an improvement of quality of life after surgery, knee replacement, especially in people at a younger age. The pain persisted completely, but reduced in intensity. Women often suffer from arthritis and achieve better results on the knee. It was also shown that younger people better cope with the activities of daily living and have less pain from the knee joints. This suggests that a return to efficiency and improve the functioning of younger people should be achieved in a shorter time than adults, whose efficiency is further limited by the patient's age.

Acoustic energy isotherms: An emergent approach for textural characterization of activated carbons

    No full text
Acoustic Emission Analysis (AEA) for textural characterization of granular activated carbons (GACs) is an interesting alternative for assessing the GAC volume of pores in a rapid, sensitive and reliable way. Correlations between AEA and conventional methods have demonstrated its potentialities for textural characterization of high-porosity materials. In this study, commercial GACs with different porous characteristics were compared and correlated by applying volumetric gas sorption (N-2 at 77 K, CO2 at 273 K), Hg porosimetry and AEA. The energy, amplitude and power of the acoustic signal produced during GAC immersion in water are used as parameters to correlate with textural characteristics of the carbons. The found relationship between conventional porosity assessment techniques and acoustic parameters demonstrated the potentialities of the acoustic method as complementary technique of exploring textural properties of high-porosity materials. The authors would like to thank VLIR-UOS (Flemish Interuniversity Council for University Development Cooperation) project between Belgium and Cuba for providing funding and granting the support of the current and future studies.Yperman, J (reprint author), Hasselt Univ, Res Grp Appl & Analyt Chem, Agoralaan Bldg D, B-3590 Diepenbeek, Belgium.
