Use of innovative composite materials and foams for noise control on board ships
In this paper an analysis on the use of innovative materials for the noise control on board ships is considered. Within ships design and building industry, materials are asked to feature characteristics as weight reduction, strength, resistance, maintenance, safety for human health and non-reaction to brackish environment in order to allow faster speeds, lower fuel consumption and higher payloads. The International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) in its Chapter II-2, 2002 (Part F Regulation 17. Alternative design and arrangements) allows in shipbuilding the use of materials alternative to steel and equivalent provided that the safety objectives and the functional requirements are respected. Since then, the scientific research has been focused towards the investigation and analysis of groundbreaking materials that can be able to provide the same physical and mechanical features of traditional ones increasing, at the same time, benefits which are essential for market competitiveness. Usually used in superstructures, decks and bulkheads, innovative materials have been demonstrated to provide numerous of the benefits required in naval development and improvement applications. This paper aims to analyze and evaluate the benefits of the use of advanced materials focusing on the noise control and reduction interventions, e.g. as for the buildup of air ducts or interiors

»It contained harbours that pleased me like sonnets«. Kleine Poetik der diegetischen Karte
In this article, Federico Italiano explores the relationship between literature and cartography. Beginning with Stevenson’s Treasure Island, the author frames the topic through a general theoretical lens on the spatial dimension of literary texts. He then focuses on a specific phenomenon of literary "carticity"—the diegetic presence of the map, that is, the map as an integral element of the narrative structure. Among others, Italiano examines the works of Houellebecq and Cormac McCarthy
La Vita di Federico di Montefeltro di Giovanni Antonio Campano. Edizione critica, introduzione e commento.
Portrait of the Author in (Him/Her)self
A fragment of a philosophical essay by Jean-Luc Nancy and Federico Ferrari titled Iconographie dell’auteur (Paris, 2005), published for the first time in Polish, that addresses the problem of a relationship between the image of the author and his/her work
[English]: The Volume represents the endpoint of a recent initiative, which was conceived, shared and fully realized within the social group of the "Prof in Cucina e in Cantina". Here, the several Authors, represented by the teaching and the technical/administrative/librarian staff of the Federico II University in Naples, the oldest public University in the world, propose recipes and anecdotal descriptions of their educational, social and work-related paths, including some episodes from the recent COVID-19 pandemic. A menu inspired to Frederick II introduces the book, with 3 recipes inspired to the Liber de coquina, a cooking manual compiled at the Emperor's court. Each of the following 8 thematic chapters of the book is also anticipated by a brief insert reporting historical reconstructions of the alimentary habits at the court of Frederick II. Thus, old and new atmospheres, accompanied by the scent of aromas and suggestions inspired by the experience of each Author, come together to offer Readers fragments of everyday life at the court of Frederick II, in the 21st century
Body temperature affects cerebral hemodynamics in acutely brain injured patients: an observational transcranial color-coded duplex sonography study
IntroductionTemperature changes are common in patients in a neurosurgical intensive care unit (NICU): fever is frequent among severe cases and hypothermia is used after cardiac arrest and is currently being tested in clinical trials to lower intracranial pressure (ICP). This study investigated cerebral hemodynamics when body temperature varies in acute brain injured patients.MethodsWe enrolled 26 patients, 14 with acute brain injury who developed fever and were given antipyretic therapy (defervescence group) and 12 who underwent an intracranial neurosurgical procedure and developed hypothermia in the operating room; once admitted to the NICU, still under anesthesia, they were re-warmed before waking (re-warming group). We measured cerebral blood flow velocity (CBF-V) and pulsatility index (PI) at the middle cerebral artery using transcranial color-coded duplex sonography (TCCDS).ResultsIn the defervescence group mean CBF-V decreased from 75¿±¿26 (95% CI 65 to 85) to 70¿±¿22 cm/s (95% CI 61 to 79) (P¿=¿0.04); the PI also fell, from 1.36¿±¿0.33 (95% CI 1.23 to 1.50) to 1.16¿±¿0.26 (95% CI 1.05 to 1.26) (P¿=¿0.0005). In the subset of patients with ICP monitoring, ICP dropped from 16¿±¿8 to 12¿±¿6 mmHg (P¿=¿0.003). In the re-warming group mean CBF-V increased from 36¿±¿10 (95% CI 31 to 41) to 39¿±¿13 (95% CI 33 to 45) cm/s (P¿=¿0.04); the PI rose from 0.98¿±¿0.14 (95% CI 0.91 to 1.04) to 1.09¿±¿0.22 (95% CI 0.98 to 1.19) (P¿=¿0.02).ConclusionsBody temperature affects cerebral hemodynamics as evaluated by TCCDS; when temperature rises, CBF-V increases in parallel, and viceversa when temperature decreases. When cerebral compliance is reduced and compensation mechanisms are exhausted, even modest temperature changes can greatly affect ICP
Federico De Roberto, «L’imperio»
The short essay examines the incipit of "L'imperio" by Federico De Roberto focusing on how the author manages to give a theatrical performance of the parliament and, thereby, to desecration and ridiculing the political function of the main actors: the parliamentarians. This incipit is obviously functional to the narration of the progressive political disappointment of Ranaldi
