Gold(I)-catalyzed synthesis of furans and pyrroles via alkyne hydration
Furans and pyrroles were prepared via the gold(I)-catalyzed alkyne hydration of diynes. The use of [Au(IPr)OH] as precatalyst in a silver-free protocol permits low catalyst loadings and in situ generation of the active cationic gold species. A detailed computational study confirmed the experimental results and supports the proposed mechanism
Enrique Dupuy de Lôme: His ‘Estudios sobre el Japón’ (1895) and the 19th-century European imperialism
These three elements (work, author and date) show us interconnections between the United States, Japan and Spain by the end of the 19th century. During this time, imperialism and nation states were taking part in the international context. From the Spanish point of view, these elements constituted a threat to the legitimacy of Spain in the Atlantic and Pacific´s colonies, or as Dupuy argues, a danger. Although our priority is to analyze Estudios sobre el Japón providing a chronology of the development of the different parts of the book, at the end, it is possible to appreciate a link between the results and the Japanese and United States imperialism, and the rise of Japan as a nation stateEl artículo forma parte del proyecto “Construcciones del yo: narraciones y representaciones del sujeto moderno entre lo personal y lo colectivo, siglos XVII-XIX” (MINECO-HAR2014-53802-P
Unité et diversité. Réflexion sur l'oeuvre de René-Jean Dupuy (1918-1997)
Spanning almost the entire second half of the twentieth century, and concerning the majority of domains of international law, and intensified by numerous borrowings from the history of political thought, philosophy, and sociology, the work of René-Jean Dupuy is at once of a striking density and yet of a remarkable diversity. It doesn't lose, however, its unity, which is grounded in the author's constant willingness to probe the change from the "world of cities" to the "City of the world". Profoundly influenced by the work of Georges Scelle, it's in a structural resolution of the problem raised by the multiplicity of "powers" that René-Jean Dupuy surveys the elements for such an evolution. Nevertheless, having quickly perceived the limits of his works, he turned more decisively towardq "ethics". Thus, Dupuy essentially studies how the different actors of the international legal order regard the international community and humanity. Consequently, he proposes to determine the meanings to organize the plurality of the ethics in the underlying unity of what Dupuy labels englobants, the emergence of which wwas precipitated by the upheavals that occurred during the twentieth century. This shift from "powers" to "ethics" does not form a break in the work of an author who would progressively abandon legal analysis in order to devote himself to works of a sociological or indeed of a philosophical nature. The work of René-Jean Dupuy rests entirely on an equivalence that he borrows from Scelle : law is at the conjunction of ethics and power. Thus, the work of Dupuy firts and foremost questions the jurist and calls him to reflect upon the role of his discipline when confronted by the challenges of the "earth city" under construction, and in so doing, on his place as a member of this city.

Structure of gel phase DPPC determined by X-ray diffraction
High resolution low angle x-ray data are reported for the gel phase of DPPC lipid bilayers, extending the previous q range of 1.0 Å−1 to 1.3 Å−1, and employing a new technique to obtain more accurate intensities and form factors |F(q)| for the highest orders of diffraction. Combined with previous wide angle x-ray and volumetric data, a space filling model is employed to obtain gel phase structure at a mesoscopic level. This analysis provides direct evidence that the hydrocarbon chains from opposing monolayers are mini-interdigitated, consistent with the previously well-established result that the opposing monolayers are strongly coupled with respect to their chain tilt directions. Even more detailed structural features are described that have not been obtained from experiment but that could, in principle, be obtained from simulations that would first be validated by agreement with the wide angle and the new low angle |F(q)| x-ray data.Fil: Nagle, John F.. Histórias do mestre-dançarino-escritor Dominique Dupuy: uma vida em estado de arte (e combate)
Review of the book La Sagesse du Danseur (The Wisdom of the Dancer), by Dominique Dupuy (1930-2024), one of the most emblematic figures of French contemporary dance. The work (originally published in 2011) is a poetic essay in which the author weaves together autobiographical memories of a long-lived artistic career (over 70 years) with profound reflections on dance, on the development of the dancer and on the secrets of teaching this ancient and magical language. To carry out this work, we focused on the Italian version of this work (La Saggezza del Danzatore, 2014), masterfully translated by historian Eugenia Casini Ropa under the watchful eyes of the author.Reseña del libro La Sagesse du Danseur (La Sabiduría del Danzarín), escrito por Dominique Dupuy (1930-2024), una de las figuras más emblemáticas de la danza contemporánea francesa. Selective Interaction of Colistin with Lipid Model Membranes
Although colistin's clinical use is limited due to its nephrotoxicity, colistin is considered to be an antibiotic of last resort because it is used to treat patients infected with multidrug-resistant bacteria. In an effort to provide molecular details about colistin's ability to kill Gram-negative (G(−)) but not Gram-positive (G(+)) bacteria, we investigated the biophysics of the interaction between colistin and lipid mixtures mimicking the cytoplasmic membrane of G(+), G(−) bacteria as well as eukaryotic cells. Two different models of the G(−) outer membrane (OM) were assayed: lipid A with two deoxy-manno-octulosonyl sugar residues, and Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide mixed with dilaurylphosphatidylglycerol. We used circular dichroism and x-ray diffuse scattering at low and wide angle in stacked multilayered samples, and neutron reflectivity of single, tethered bilayers mixed with colistin. We found no differences in secondary structure when colistin was bound to G(−) versus G(+) membrane mimics, ruling out a protein conformational change as the cause of this difference. However, bending modulus KC perturbation was quite irregular for the G(−) inner membrane, where colistin produced a softening of the membranes at an intermediate lipid/peptide molar ratio but stiffening at lower and higher peptide concentrations, whereas in G(+) and eukaryotic mimics there was only a slight softening. Acyl chain order in G(−) was perturbed similarly to KC. In G(+), there was only a slight softening and disordering effect, whereas in OM mimics, there was a slight stiffening and ordering of both membranes with increasing colistin. X-ray and neutron reflectivity structural results reveal colistin partitions deepest to reach the hydrocarbon interior in G(−) membranes, but remains in the headgroup region in G(+), OM, and eukaryotic mimics. It is possible that domain formation is responsible for the erratic response of G(−) inner membranes to colistin and for its deeper penetration, which could increase membrane permeability.Fil: Dupuy, Fernando Gabriel. Elastic behavior of model membranes with antimicrobial peptides depends on lipid specificity and d-enantiomers
In an effort to provide new treatments for the global crisis of bacterial resistance to current antibiotics, we have used a rational approach to design several new antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). The present study focuses on 24-mer WLBU2 and its derivative, D8, with the amino acid sequence, RRWVRRVRRWVRRVVRVVRRWVRR. In D8, all of the valines are the Denantiomer. We use X-ray low- and wide-angle diffuse scattering data to measure elasticity and lipid chain order. We show a good correlation between in vitro bacterial killing efficiency and both bending and chain order behavior in bacterial lipid membrane mimics; our results suggest that AMP-triggered domain formation could be the mechanism of bacterial killing in both Grampositive and Gram-negative bacteria. In red blood cell lipid mimics, D8 stiffens and orders the membrane, while WLBU2 softens and disorders it, which correlate with D8’s harmless vs. WLBU2’s toxic behavior in hemolysis tests. These results suggest that elasticity and chain order behavior can be used to predict mechanisms of bactericidal action and toxicity of new AMPs.Fil: Kumagai, Akari.
