Against living things: the rhetoric of gendered experimentation in Resident Evil
Resident Evil, the popular survival horror video game series, utilizes monstrous mutations of humans as the primary threat within its narratives. The nuances and patterns of these monsters are primarily defined by their genders. Though the series is typically known in digital, game, and film criticisms, I advocate we use methodologies from feminist rhetorics to discuss the monstrous creatures. Considerations of how such monsters, Bio Organic Weapons, alter or confirm to gender normativity can influence feminist rhetorical studies by diversifying the data sets the field explores and our understanding of gendered commentary for the rapidly growing population of women playing games. After a brief review of current feminist rhetorical scholarship and motivations, I’ll use domestic, temporal, motivational, and physical rhetorics to establish the pattern of gendered norms of ‘monsters’ in the franchise due to the commentary they offer on our culture and understanding of the world. Finally, I conclude with an overview of the growing community of women necessitating this study, adult women chased away from the violence of online discourses who turn to narrative based games like Resident Evil.M.A.Includes bibliographical referencesby Renee Ann Droui

Methyl group torsional spittings are not observed in the ground state. Its 8 to 40 GHz rotational spectrum was reported at this meeting by Valenzuela and Woods in 1974 and in more detail in 1975. The parameters derived at that time from a fit to the states with have provided the basis for extending the measurements to GHz. The combined data set extends to and is fit with the program {\sc spfit} using a common set of parameters for both the and states. The general features of the spectrum and the fitting procedure will be described. The resulting molecular constants and their interpretation will be discussed
The representations of writing in Claude Mathieu’s collection of short stories La mort exquise are presented as a sum of mediations, not only between the author and the reader, but between a past and a future. The memory inscribed in the material participates in the construction of the subject by recalling a past that contrasts with an imaginary extension of life, thereby creating the dizzying sensation of an eternal return. This article will analyze the various occurrences of the book and of writing in Claude Mathieu’s collection of short stories in order to show the role they play within the fictional and social world. The emphasis given to the materiality of the medium and to the problematic relationship between the characters and writing itself suggests that the representations of the book and of written material are the precious components of the ruins of a past that can never be completely grasped. Although this collection of short stories would seem to be located on the margins of Quebec’s nationalist and identity literary movement during the 1960s, this study offers a reading that places it within the context of the era
Proline-rich tyrosine kinase 2 mediates gonadotropin-releasing hormone signaling to a specific extracellularly regulated kinase-sensitive transcriptional locus in the luteinizing hormone beta-subunit gene
G protein-coupled receptor regulation of gene transcription primarily occurs through the phosphorylation of transcription factors by MAPKs. This requires transduction of an activating signal via scaffold proteins that can ultimately determine the outcome by binding signaling kinases and adapter proteins with effects on the target transcription factor and locus of activation. By investigating these mechanisms, we have elucidated how pituitary gonadotrope cells decode an input GnRH signal into coherent transcriptional output from the LH beta-subunit gene promoter. We show that GnRH activates c-Src and multiple members of the MAPK family, c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase 1/2, p38MAPK, and ERK1/2. Using dominant-negative point mutations and chemical inhibitors, we identified that calcium-dependent proline-rich tyrosine kinase 2 specifically acts as a scaffold for a focal adhesion/cytoskeleton-dependent complex comprised of c-Src, Grb2, and mSos that translocates an ERK-activating signal to the nucleus. The locus of action of ERK was specifically mapped to early growth response-1 (Egr-1) DNA binding sites within the LH beta-subunit gene proximal promoter, which was also activated by p38MAPK, but not c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase 1/2. Egr-1 was confirmed as the transcription factor target of ERK and p38MAPK by blockade of protein expression, transcriptional activity, and DNA binding. We have identified a novel GnRH-activated proline-rich tyrosine kinase 2-dependent ERK-mediated signal transduction pathway that specifically regulates Egr-1 activation of the LH beta-subunit proximal gene promoter, and thus provide insight into the molecular mechanisms required for differential regulation of gonadotropin gene expression
QUANTITATIVE ROTATIONAL SPECTROSCOPY FOR HITRAN
Author Institution: Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of TechnologyRemote sensing of rotational transitions in the Earth's atmosphere has become a popular method of retrieving geophysical temperatures, pressures and chemical composition profiles. Reliable retrieval of this information requires accurate spectral information. The HITRAN database is a repository for spectral information that is useful to the atmospheric remote sensing community. A majority of the rotational data in HITRAN are based on the JPL spectral line catalog and then augmented with Iineshape parameters and references. This presentation outlines the current status of rotational data that are useful for atmospheric measurements
CMOS Compatible Hydrogen Sensor Using Platinum Gate and ALD–Aluminum Oxide
International audienceIn this study, a p-Si/ALD-Al2O3/Ti/Pt MOS (metal oxide semiconductor) device has been fabricated and used as a hydrogen sensor. The use of such a stack enables a reliable, industry-compatible CMOS fabrication process. ALD-Al2O3 has been chosen as it can be integrated into the back end of the line (BEOL) or in CMOS, post processing. The device response and recovery are demonstrated with good correlation between the capacitance variation and the hydrogen concentration. Detection down to 20 ppm at 140 °C was obtained and a response time of 56 s for 500 ppm was recorded
International framework agreements are a private model covering international labour regulation, the purpose of which is to protect workers’ fundamental rights on the cross-border production lines of transnational enterprises. The aspect that sets these agreements apart from other voluntary labour regulatory initiatives in cross-border enterprises mainly stems from the participation of international unions in their development and implementation. The author analyzes the emergence of this practice of transnational collective bargaining and the contents of the international framework agreements that arise from it. Her enquiry shows the not-so-obvious role at frst sight of state labour regulatory institutions in the negotiation of these agreements. International framework agreements provide a promising regulatory model for the implementation of fundamental rights laid down in the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work and its Follow-up (1998) in the private sector, nonetheless their expansion on a wider scale will likely require an internationally more solidly supported legal framework

Daughters of the Carnivalized Nation in Jean-Pierre Ronfard’s Shakespearean Adaptations Lear and Vie et mort du Roi Boiteux
Québec theatre abounds with Shakespearean adaptations (not counting translations, another genre entirely). Jean-Pierre Ronfard’s texts contributed significantly to this corpus of adaptations which seek to appropriate "le grand Will" to work through Québécois issues. In Lear (1977) and Vie et mort du Roi Boiteux (1981), we see the evolution of the importance of nationalism and feminism before and after the referendum. The nation is destroyed by Rabelaisian carnival, but carnivalesque death is always associated with regeneration, which, in Ronfard’s works, is entrusted to regal daughters in whom we can find hope for the reconstruction of the nation once its bastardry has been celebrated. Ronfard’s plays also comprise a metafictional critique of Shakespeare himself who literally enacts the theory of the death of the author while giving birth to another Shakespeare who is entirely Québécois.
