The author of the essay comments on the introduction to Canaletto written by Giuseppe Berto for the Classici dell’arte series, published by Rizzoli. In order to fulfill the task, Berto does not use a technical language; on the contrary, he writes a narrative prose. The essay demonstrates how Berto chooses not to introduce, but to ‘narrate’ Canaletto, because he treats his story as a literary character’s one, develops the typical themes of his major novels and begins an identification process with the Venetian painter
Il Male Oscuro by Giuseppe Berto: among literature and psychoanalysis
The thesis deals with the book "Il male oscuro" by the author Giuseppe Berto analyzed through a dual approach: literary and psychoanalytic.
The methodology adopted is based on a textual analysis integrated with references to psychoanalytic theory, with particular attention to Freud's reflections.
The thesis retraces not only Berto's psychoanalytic path, but also the evolution of the introspective novel of the twentieth century
The utopian spacialization in Al Berto and João Gilberto Noll
This paper develops a reflection about the utopian spacializations of the characters in Al Berto´s (1948-1997) and João Gilberto Noll´s (1946) works. In this sense, the analysis focuses on all the Brazilian author´s novels, especially on Lorde, and on the Portuguese writer´s works with a more complex characters figuration, such as Lunário
This work explores the representation and expression of homoeroticism in the poetry of the renowned Portuguese writer Al Berto, pseudonym of Alberto Raposo Pidwell Tavares (1948-1997), specifically in five poems from the collection O medo (2005). Through an analysis of his poetic work, the research seeks to understand how Al Berto portrays the intimacy and sensuality of same-sex love and how this relates to the construction of identity and sexuality. In addition to offering an analysis of the representation of homoerotic love and desire in the poetry of this Portuguese author, the study presents theoretical research and textual analysis on autofiction in the poems in Al Berto's works, sexuality in literature and the homoerotic concept, which has contributed to the understanding of sexuality and identity, as well as to the appreciation of diversity and inclusion in contemporary literature
The essay aims to analyse the last novel by Giuseppe Berto, La gloria, through the themes of guilt
and shame. To do so, it is necessary to compare the novel with all the past texts, in order to reconstruct the author’s auto-intertextual web. The results are a brief reconstruction of the genesis
of the novel and a stronger awareness about the usage, by Berto, of the majority of the themes
already written about and of his own biography. All of this moves the narration of La gloria: a
psychological fiht between Jesus and Judas, with moments of dominion and submission of each
other, and alternated identifiations of the author himself. As a description of the quintessential
victim and the perpetrator, La gloria is the real last will of Giuseppe Berto
The effect of defects and notches in quasi-static and fatigue loading of Inconel 718 specimens produced by selective laser melting
Additively manufactured components are likely to contain defects deriving from the manufacturing process. They are also likely to be designed with high geometric complexity (including notches), due to very few design-limitations. In order to understand the influence of these two types of geometric features, we here investigate as-built Inconel 718 specimens produced by selective laser melting under quasi-static and cyclic loading. Notched and unnotched specimens are considered, and the main emphasis is set on the influence of the defects and on how they influence the failure locations at different load levels. © 2020 The Author(s
"The brigand": from the novel by Giuseppe Berto to the movie by Renato Castellani
The thesis consists of a study of the novel Il brigante by Giuseppe Berto and the homonymous film adaptation by Renato Castellani. With the help of materials from Archivio Scrittori Veneti, it examines the two works, their respective authors, the critical reception at the time of their release and tries to reconstruct the history of the relationship between the author of the novel and the production of the film
A simplified extension of the Crack Analogue model for fretting fatigue with varying normal load
The stress concentration induced by fretting is studied with a simple "Crack Analogue" model (CA), vaguely inspired by the original CA proposed by MIT 20 years ago, "improved" by the first author to take into account simply both contact loads and bulk stresses loads, and even the case of finite stress concentration in the so-called "Crack Like Notch Analogue" (CLNA) model. We suggest here a very crude extension to include the case of varying normal load, where we don't attempt to solve the contact mechanics problem rigorously, only providing an estimate of the equivalent Stress Intensity Factor from the instantaneous load and contact area. Even this results in a problem which has no equivalent in standard fatigue, since it corresponds to a "crack" that is oscillating in size at each cycle. This defines the cycles of stress in the actual material points in the fretted area, but the uncertainties in the approximations suggest that only some limit cases should be approaches this way: for example, when the peaks of tangential load are obtained at about a "mean contact area" (out-of-phase loading) then the original CLNA model could be used
The treatment of sources in the typescript of La Gloria by Giuseppe Berto
In the note at the end of La gloria, a novel dedicated to the story of Christ recounted from Judas\u27 point of view, Giuseppe Berto mentions the sources he has taken inspiration from: the Mondadori Oscar edition of the Gospels (1973) and Guido Ceronetti\u27s translations. Thanks to a typescript made available by the author\u27s family, together with avantexts material, the essay sets out to retrace their actual influence, while noting the use of further unstated sources, such as the Riveduta Luzzi and the work of the theologian Xavier Léon-Dufour
NSIFs estimation based on the averaged strain energy density under in-plane mixed mode loading
AbstractIn this work three methods for the rapid calculation of the NSIFs, based on the averaged strain energy density (SED), are compared. The first method was proposed by Lazzarin et al. and it is based on the calculation of the SED averaged in two different control volumes centred at the notch tip. The second one instead was recently presented by Treifi and Oyadiji and it takes advantage of the strain energy density averaged within two control volumes (semi-circular sector) centred at the notch tip. Then a new method based on the evaluation of the total and deviatoric strain energy density averaged over a control volume has been proposed. Finally, the described methods have been applied to plates weakened by different V-notch geometries: diamond-shaped notch, square hole and central crack in plates of finite and infinite extension. The values of the NSIFs derived according to Gross and Mendelson have been compared with those obtained by means of the approximate methods, by using coarse FE meshes
