External validation of anti-Müllerian hormone based prediction of live birth in assisted conception

Background - Chronological age and oocyte yield are independent determinants of live birth in assisted conception. Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) is strongly associated with oocyte yield after controlled ovarian stimulation. We have previously assessed the ability of AMH and age to independently predict live birth in an Italian assisted conception cohort. Herein we report the external validation of the nomogram in 822 UK first in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles.

Methods - Retrospective cohort consisting of 822 patients undergoing their first IVF treatment cycle at Glasgow Centre for Reproductive Medicine. Analyses were restricted to women aged between 25 and 42 years of age. All women had an AMH measured prior to commencing their first IVF cycle. The performance of the model was assessed; discrimination by the area under the receiver operator curve (ROCAUC) and model calibration by the predicted probability versus observed probability.

Results - Live births occurred in 29.4% of the cohort. The observed and predicted outcomes showed no evidence of miscalibration (p = 0.188). The ROCAUC was 0.64 (95% CI: 0.60, 0.68), suggesting moderate and similar discrimination to the original model. The ROCAUC for a continuous model of age and AMH was 0.65 (95% CI 0.61, 0.69), suggesting that the original categories of AMH were appropriate.

Conclusions - We confirm by external validation that AMH and age are independent predictors of live birth. Although the confidence intervals for each category are wide, our results support the assessment of AMH in larger cohorts with detailed baseline phenotyping for live birth prediction.

Deutsche Fabeln aus dem 16. und 18. Jahrhundert von Luther und Lessing
Here is a curiosity. This book is exactly identical with another in the collection except for three differences. First, this copy has no title -- and in fact no words at all -- on its cover. Secondly, its title-page does not mention a publisher. Thirdly, the printer, Klinke, has moved from Mettlach to Saarbrücken. The volume to which it is so similar is in a series, and this book shares the characterisics of that series: a canvas binding, colored paper covers with a colored illustration at the center, and 32 pages. Here a T of C at the beginning announces fourteen fables. Each fable has a two-page spread. On the left page is a fable from either Luther or Lessing, with a separate, highlighted moral at the end. For Lessing, this highlighted moral is a part of the fable itself. On the right is a frame of black-and-white designs above and below a colored illustration of the fable. The frames here play with the story in the manner of Rabier, as they do in the La Fontaine volume. I cannot understand the application under FM (7); is one man being invited in two different directions? For LS (8), Luther uses the proverb Don't eat cherries with your masters; they throw the pits at you. The drawing underneath the picture shows the bringer of cherries being dismissed by the lord who eats them. I only now become aware of Lessing's development of the fable of the dying lion. The horse refuses to take revenge on an enemy that can no longer hurt him (12). I am also delighted with Lessing's development of the fable of the robbed miser. It is not just that he is poorer, but that someone else is that much richer (24)! The image for this fable is particularly well done. This is a hardbound book (hard cover)Language note: GermanBearbeitet und Herausgegeben von Dr. Jakob Szlisk
Night and Dawn in Virgil's Epic Poem Aeneid
The aim of the bachelor’s thesis Night and Dawn in Virgil’s Epic Poem Aeneid is to explore and evaluate the conceptual meaning and linguo-stylistic usage of temporal expressions denoting night and dawn in Virgil’s epic. In order to achieve this aim the author studied the conclusions of both ancient and contemporary theoreticians regarding the characteristics of epic poetry, as well as the aspect of time in epic poetry. The author researched both the usage of chronological night, as well as metaphorical night. In regard to the depictions of dawn, the author focused on the usage of the lexeme dies in connection to dawn, as well as depictions of Aurora. During this research it was discovered that night in the context of the poem is associated with rest, worry, as well as threats. Dawn, especially Aurora, is connected to Italy, but Aurora in the Aeneid is also depicted as a bringer of destruction and a harbinger of death. It was also discovered that the lexeme dies can be used to depict dawn through the usage of epithets, as well as the mention of the Morning star and Aurora
Contextual consideration of Enneagram
Ovim člankom autor osvjetljava podrijetlo i narav eneagrama, njegovu neiscrpnu sposobnost mutiranja, predstavlja njegove protagoniste, razlučuje pojmove i, na kraju, donosi kritička zapažanja.Enneagram is, according to some, a psychological self-cognition method, similar to character description. Others maintain that it is a spiritual development method, seeking to »Christianize« it at any cost, or at least present it as compatible with Christianity (and other religions). Enneagram critics point to its obscure esoteric-numerological origins, whereas New Age views it as a privileged method most brilliantly expressing its syncretistic worldview which equally accentuates spirituality, psychology and gnosis. In the present article, its author brings to light the esoteric origin and psychological nature of enneagram, expressing a high degree of reserve with respect to its application for the purposes of spiritual growth, as pointed out in the document by the Papal Council for Culture and Papal Council for Inter-religious Dialogue: Jesus Christ – the Bringer of Living Water, no 1.4
Discovering the Unsaid: An Aesthetic Approach to Children's Unarticulated Perspectives

The aim of this article is to explore how preschool personnel may approach the perspectives of minority language children who are new to the Norwegian language and preschool setting. This article draws on an arts-based inquiry of interaction between preschool personnel and children who do not share a common language. The children and teachers’ aesthetic explorations work as a methodological framework for studying the teacher as a facilitator of voices that do not speak Norwegian. By using Kristeva’s theories on language and aesthetics, the author explores how personnel attentiveness towards their own bodily and aesthetic signifying practices may be a gateway for recognizing children’s tacit perspectives. The author presents examples that illustrate how two preschool teachers’ emerging awareness of the collective, affective and imaginative dimensions of their own interplay may have significance for the newcomers’ participation.publishedVersio
The theological role of "signs" in the Gospel of John
Dissertation (MTh.)--University of Pretoria, 2005.The author of the Gospel of John recorded the seven miracle accounts in his book and named them distinctively as shmei/on (‘sign’), while in the Synoptics the miracles are usually called du,namij (‘mighty deed’). This particular term signifies that the miracles of Jesus in this Gospel are significant occasions which carry associative theological messages. Thus Johannine research has always had a great deal of interest in this specific field. The important interpretative point to note is that the individual sign does not exist on its own but reciprocates the influence to the associated discourses on the revelatory mentions of Jesus and/or operates together with other signs in the specific features of its macro context. Thus the delivery of the message is maximised. As a result of the comprehensive analysis of the whole signs, it is clear that the author of this Gospel elaborately arranges seven signs, and thus draws his theological messages most efficiently. The main concern of shmei/a in this Gospel is to expose the Christological portraits of Jesus and some related theological themes. The divine identities of Jesus that are exposed by the signs are, for example, ‘the eschatological bridegroom,’ ‘the provider of eternal life,’ ‘the bringer of the eschatological salvation,’ and ‘the Messiah/Christ/King.’ Some related theological themes that are conveyed through the signs are, for example, ‘the replacement of the Jewish tradition,’ ‘the significance of a faith in Jesus,’ ‘glorification of Jesus,’ ‘unbelief,’ and ‘the discipleship.’ It is thus clear that the Johannine signs are written so that people may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing people may have Life in His name (cf. 20:31).New Testament Studiesunrestricte
Tolerance of concurrent adjuvant radiotherapy and pembrolizumab for triple negative breast cancer: real life experience
International audience© 2023 The Author(s)Purpose: The current standard-of-care management of locally advanced triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is based on neoadjuvant chemo-immunotherapy with pembrolizumab, surgery, radiation therapy (RT), and adjuvant pembrolizumab. However, the safety of combining pembrolizumab with adjuvant breast RT has never been evaluated. This study evaluated the tolerance profile of concurrent pembrolizumab with adjuvant RT in patients with locally advanced TNBC. Methods and Materials: This bicentric ambispective study included all the patients with early and locally advanced TNBC who received neoadjuvant chemo-immunotherapy with pembrolizumab and adjuvant RT as part of their treatment. The tolerance profile of adjuvant RT was evaluated and compared in patients who received concurrent pembrolizumab and in patients for whom pembrolizumab was withheld. Results: Fifty-five patients were included between July 2021 and March 2023. Twenty-eight patients received adjuvant RT with concurrent pembrolizumab (RT+P group), and 27 patients had pembrolizumab withheld while receiving adjuvant RT (RT-only group). Two patients developed grade ≥3 toxicity (1 grade 3 pain in the RT+P group and 1 grade 3 radiodermatitis in the RT-only group), and there were no differences in terms of toxicity between the RT-only and the RT+P groups. No cardiac or pulmonary adverse event was reported during RT. With a median follow-up of 12 months (10-26), no patient relapsed. Conclusions: In this study of limited size, the authors did not find a difference between the RT-only and RT+P groups in terms of toxicity. More studies and longer follow-up may add to the strength of this evidence
The author comments on the «Los nuevos años» trilogy, by Alfredo Pareja Diezcanseco. La advertencia (The Warning) presents the dreams 01 Ecuadorian modernization, with the hopes of more equality and inclusion, El aire y los recuerdos (Air and Memories) is read as a creation of unique poetic nuances: air is the bringer 01 illusions and dreams of solutions for the nation, but it also carries them away, with all the frustrations, helplessness and failures, Los poderes omnímodos (The AII Embracing Powers) recounts the beginnings of the era of Velasco Ibarra, taking full advantage of situations and characters, giving proof to an exceptional level of maturity in Pareja's fiction. He paints the two great cities of the nation in these novels, but also tours the countryside, important histories episodes are the pretext used to show the diverse and wide ranging nature of Ecuadorian society, events and characters that are also intimately entwined with other important world events of the age. The author maintains that one can speak of Pareja's 'globalizing' tendency in these novels which clearly calls tor the 'de-cloistering' of the nation
