Infrared evidence of a Slater metal insulator transition in NaOsO3

    No full text
The magnetically driven metal insulator transition MIT was predicted by Slater in the fifties. Here a long range antiferromagnetic AF order can open up a gap at the Brillouin electronic band boundary regardless of the Coulomb repulsion magnitude. However, while many low dimensional organic conductors display evidence for an AF driven MIT, in three dimensional 3D systems the Slater MIT still remains elusive. We employ terahertz and infrared spectroscopy to investigate the MIT in the NaOsO3 3D antiferromagnet. From the optical conductivity analysis we find evidence for a continuous opening of the energy gap, whose temperature dependence can be well described in terms of a second order phase transition. The comparison between the experimental Drude spectral weight and the one calculated through Local Density Approximation LDA shows that electronic correlations play a limited role in the MIT. All the experimental evidence demonstrates that NaOsO3 is the first known 3D Slater insulato

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    CURIE-TEMPERATURE "SLATER-PAULING CURVE"

    No full text
The systematic variation of the Curie-temperature "Slater-Pauling curve" has been explained for the first time on the basis of the finite-temperature theory of the local environment effect. The peculiarity of the Curie temperatures in Fe-V, Fe-Ni, and Ni-Mn alloys is elucidated by using the effective exchange couplings

This study is about the social movements of Latin America through which they were located in Peru, after his experience in Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) the author (Slater) introduces us to development studies from radical geography, it is the exploration of the power of peasant social movements, contrary to what most social scientists studied as labor movements from central countries. Having a postcolonial position from radical geography, it also explores the territorialities of the wage earners of the coastal cities and of the regional peasant movements of the interior of Peru, studying the contradictions of capital and wage labor and registering the non-wage labor that existed before the agrarian reform of the military government of Velasco Alvarado. I also record the “other” non-capitalist forms of production that persisted as alternative territorialities based on democracy, citizen participation and the struggle against the hegemonic and disorderly Peruvian capitalism, as well as identifying the gaps or errors of state intervention in the provincial territories from the hegemonic capital city. Peruvian of a military regime that declared itself revolutionary, which also did not dare to call it reformist. He focused on two social movements, one in the south of Peru in Arequipa and the other in the east of the country in Pucalpa. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Error bounds for nondifferentiable convex inequalities under a strong Slater constraint qualification

    No full text
A global error bound is given on the distance between an arbitrary point in the n-dimensional real space R^n and its projection on a nonempty convex set determined by m convex, possibly nondifferentiable, inequalities. The bound is in terms of a natural residual that measures the violations of the inequalities multiplied by a new simple condition constant that embodies a single strong Slater constraint qualification (CQ) which implies the ordinary Slater CQ. A very simple bound on the distance to the projection relative to the distance to a point satisfying the ordinary Slater CQ is given first and then used to derive the principal global error bound.
