An Optimal Estimate of the --Variation
A notion of Lr-δ-variation of a function in Lr which plays an essential role in the theory of the Henstock-Kurzweil integral for functions in Lr (HKr-integral) is studied. We obtain an improved, in fact the best possible, estimate from below for this variation via the classical variation. We show that the class of functions having a finite Lr-δ-variation on an interval coincides with the class of functions of bounded variation on this interval. As a by-product of the results of the paper we obtain a new proof of the uniqueness of the HKr-integral
Kurzweil-Henstock type integral on zero-dimensional group and some of its applications
summary:A Kurzweil-Henstock type integral on a zero-dimensional abelian group is used to recover by generalized Fourier formulas the coefficients of the series with respect to the characters of such groups, in the compact case, and to obtain an inversion formula for multiplicative integral transforms, in the locally compact case
Comparison of the Pr-integral with Burkill's integrals and some applications to trigonometric series
It is proved that the Pr-integral [9] which recovers a function from its derivative defined in the space Lr, 1 <= r < infinity, is properly included in Burkill's trigonometric CP-and SCP-integrals. As an application to harmonic analysis, a de La Vallee-Poussin-type theorem for the Pr-integral is obtained: convergence nearly everywhere of a trigonometric series to a Pr-integrable function f implies that this series is the Pr-Fourier series of f.(c) 2023 Elsevier Inc. On the Coefficients of Multiple Series with Respect to Vilenkin System
We give a sufficient condition for coefficients of double series ∑∑ n,m a n,m χ n,m with respect to Vilenkin system to be convergent to zero when n + m →∞. This result can be applied to the problem of recovering coefficients of a Vilenkin series from its su
On the Lr-differentiability of two Lusin classes and a full descriptive characterization of the HKr-integral
It is proved that any function of a Lusin-type class, the class of ACGr-functions, is differentiable almost everywhere in the sense of a derivative defined in the space Lr, 1 ≤ r < ∞. This leads to a full descriptive characterization of a Henstock-Kurzweil-type integral, the HKr-integral, which serves to recover functions from their Lr-derivatives. The class ACGr is compared with the classical Lusin class ACG and it is shown that continuous ACG-functions can fail to be Lr-differentiable almost everywhere
Alf Nilsen-Børsskog — The Author Chosen by the Language
This article discusses Alf Nilsen-Børsskog’s four-volume series of novels Elämän jatko [Continuation of life, 2004–2015], seen as the first literary works treating the Kven culture from a native perspective. Nilsen-Børsskog’s novels are analysed as constituting a “counterstory”, a term coined in the postcolonial cultural research paradigm to refer to self-representation. The Kvens have been considered a national minority in Norway since 1999, and their language has been an official minority language since 2005. The present author scrutinizes how Nilsen-Børsskog’s work differs from previous literary descriptions of this minority, often marked by the frequent use of stereotypes of the Kven language and culture
New York in collezione privata, 1626).The author analyses a painting by Leandro bassano, through a print of the late eighteenth century, and empahsizes the connections between the figuration used in Venetian concert painting and the language applied in the musical paintings by Caravaggio a nd his followers.
Finally the analysis of a drawing found by the author, and tradinally attributed to Rutilio Manetti, opens up interesting questions in regard to the history of the paioonting Concert with Characteres and a Drinker by Valentin de Boulogne, now in private collection in New York
Valentin N. Volóchinov: um filósofo da ciência da linguagem
This text address the work of Russian scholar Valentin N. Vološinov, author of the book Marxism and the Philosophy of Language. The objective is to demonstrate a set of characteristics that place Vološinov as a participant in the critique of science movement, which had its epicenter in Germany, between the years 1840 and 1900. To this end, in addition to a general reflection, which recovers the meaning of the term “criticism” most present in the academic environment of the time, this text considers two points of the much mentioned – and, apparently, somewhat misunderstood – opposition of the Russian thinker to the linguistics of Ferdinand de Saussure, as this linguistics is presented in the Course in General Linguistics. Finally, by way of provocation, this text outlines a few words about the proximity between the epistemological works of Valentin N. Vološinov and Wilhelm Dilthey.Este texto aborda la obra del estudioso ruso Valentin N. Voloshinov, autor de la obra Marxismo y filosofía del lenguaje. C-rel deficiency and its effect on proliferation and survival in immunodeficient lymphoblastic B cells
The analysis of lymphocytes from immunodeficient patients has provided valuable insights into understanding the development and function of the immune system. In particular, studies of patients with Hyper IgM syndrome, a rare immunodeficiency resulting from defects in both CD40L in activated CD4+ T cells and components of the CD40 signaling pathway in B cells have been crucial for the elucidation of molecular pathways involved in the activation, proliferation and differentiation of B lymphocytes. Previously our lab generated EBV transformed lymphoblastic cells with inducible LMP1 from a female patient diagnosed with non-X-linked HIGM (Pt1-LCLtet cells, Pt1). Analysis of these cells revealed a CD40-specific activation defect associated with low c-Rel levels. To broaden our understanding of the Pt1 phenotype we analyzed c-Rel expression and found that low c-Rel levels were the outcome of depressed transcriptional activation of the c-rel promoter. In-vivo analysis revealed that low transcription was coincident with increased p65 activity at the c-rel promoter although this was insufficient to induce normal c-Rel expression. Further investigations of the Pt1-LCLtet cells uncovered a proliferation and survival defect characterized by reduced c-Myc transcription and increased levels of caspase-4. This defect was complemented after c-Rel overexpression, supporting a causative role for c-Rel deficiency in the observed phenotype of the Pt1-LCLtet cells. The LCLtet cells were further utilized as a model system for the independent analysis of LMP1 and CD40 signaling. These studies revealed several outcomes of LMP1 signaling in the biology and function of CD40. Specifically, LMP1 signaling induced a unique pattern of CD40 phosphorylation as well as the expression of several novel CD40 isoforms. Moreover, when CD40 and LMP1 were activated simultaneously a synergistic effect was observed towards p65 and p38 phosphorylation suggesting a functional interaction that might occur during early stages of EBV infection or malignant transformation where both LMP1 and CD40 are co-expressed in the infected cell. Collectively, our results demonstrate that a majority of the defects displayed in the Pt1-LCLtet cells are a result of reduced c-Rel expression. Importantly, these results ascribe c-Rel a novel function as a negative regulator of caspase-4 expression and a putative key player in the control of cell survival in EBV-immortalized B cells.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical referencesby Anibal J.
