Can reforming global institutions help developing countries share more in the benefits from globalization?
Globalization could significantly expand trade, international investment, and technological advances, but the gains from global integration have been unevenly distributed across and within nations. Greater global interdependence has also brought greater macroeconomic volatility, resulting in several serious financial crises in the second half of the 1990s. The global matrix of Bretton Woods and United Nations institutions that developed starting in the 1940s, formed under a different balance of power, in a world of fixed exchange rates and limited capital mobility. Since the 1960s regional financial institutions have emerged because of the greater autonomy of different regions and the greater financial needs of development. The author reviews different proposals for reform of the international financial institutions and changes in the roles of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. He highlights the implications for developing countries of (1) Policy conditionality. (2) The countercyclical role of multilaterals'lending. (3) Greater lending to middle-income than to low-income developing countries. (3) Access to liquidity at times of crisis. (4) Mechanisms for giving low-income countries a greater voice in IMF and World Bank decisionmaking. The author streses the overlapping responsibilities of the Bretton Woods and regional financial institutions and the need to reassess the allocation of responsibilities and to develop better coordination mechanisms between these institutions. Those designing institutional reform must consider the corporate capabilities of each type of institution. The corporate cultures of global and regional institutions differ. So does the kind of knowledge they generate and disseminate, and so do patterns of interactions with, and mechanisms for representation of, client countries. Finally, the author calls attention to the need to harmonize national and global growth-oriented policies in a way that reduces volatility and promotes social equity.Environmental Economics&Policies,Governance Indicators,Financial Intermediation,Economic Theory&Research,Banks&Banking Reform
Focused Laser-Induced Marangoni Dewetting for Patterning Polymer Thin Films
Highly-localized focused laser spike (FLaSk) heating of polymer thin films is a resist- and developer-free alternative to 2D laser direct write for creating patterns on the single micron or, by exploiting overlap effects, submicron scale. The massive temporal and spatial thermal gradients and resulting thermal Marangoni stresses generated by FLaSk are an effective means for the directed dewetting and patterning of such films. Here, the general applicability of this technique to glassy amorphous polymer thin film systems is investigated through systematic investigation of film thickness, glass transition temperature, and polymer mobility. The results reveal that the important parameters are the film thickness (coupled to the optical heating effects through anti-reflection coating effects) and the high-temperature polymer melt mobility, allowing for generation of single features with linewidths of down to ~1 μm. Further, the introduction of spatial mobility variations by using polymer brushes, bilayers, and microphase separated block copolymers leads to additional profile manipulation effects (i.e. spontaneous 2D pattern generation and flattened top profiles).Peer reviewe
Social Media, Marketing, and The Opera Singer
abstract: ABSTRACT
This research is focused on technology in the arts, social media, and the opera singer. Topics include recent performance trends, social media, marketing techniques, and creating a successful brand. This paper also focuses on how to leverage social media platforms build a digital persona, and create an engaged audience. The same techniques used by corporations and opera companies for their social media and marketing strategy can be leveraged to increase brand awareness, build a strong network, and may aid in generating new opportunities for the opera singer.

Flag codes of maximum distance and constructions using Singer groups
In this paper we study flag codes of maximum distance. We characterize these codes in terms of, at most, two relevant constant dimension codes naturally associated to them. We do this first for general flag codes and then particularize to those arising as orbits under the action of arbitrary subgroups of the general linear group. We provide two different systematic orbital constructions of flag codes attaining both maximum distance and size. To this end, we use the action of Singer groups and take advantage of the good relation between these groups and Desarguesian spreads, as well as the fact that they act transitively on lines and hyperplanes. The authors received financial support of Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (PID2019-108668GB-I00). It is with great pleasure that we present this edition of the Proceedings of the Transborder Library Forum (Foro). The 2007 Transborder Library Forum was held at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona in February, 2007. We are pleased that there will be both a print edition and an online edition. Editing has been kept to a minimum to preserve the intent of the author in the language the paper was presented. The theme for the 2007 Foro was Bridging the Digital Divide. Topics ranged from international copyright issues to getting information to students in widely dispersed communities with little or no infrastructure except the Internet. While most attendees and speakers were from the USA and Mexico, we also had some from Uganda, Kenya, Hungary, and the West Indies

Kalecki, post-Keynesians and post-Kaleckians: a study on price formation in oligopoly
Em seguida, são analisados os trabalhos de Clarke & Davies (1982), Dixon & Gunther (1982), Appelbaum (1982) e Conyon & Machin (1991).The main purpose of this masters dissertation is to critically analyse Michal Kalecki, post-keynesians and post-kaleckians Works on price fixation in oligopolistic markets. The first chapter deals with Kaleckis pricing theory in this first section, the author analyses the evolution of Kaleckis ideas on this subject, emphasizing the determinants of the profit margins of the oligopolistic firms, by discussing six different contributions of his own. Then, the main criticisms to Kaleckis theory are discussed to verify their validity. Finally, a debate about Kaleckis pricing theory in the long run is examined. The second chapter deals with post-keynesians and post-kaleckians works on price fixation. In the first section, the author analyses the post-keynesians Works, eichner (1976), Hartcourt & Kenyon (1976) and Wood (1975). Then, the post-kaleckianss Works are examined: Cowling (1983) and Sawyer (1982). Finally, a brief comparison between the two classes of models is made. The third chapter deals with some works that try to improve basic models examined in chapter two. In the first section the author analyses the works of Shapiro (1981) and Ong (1981). Then, the works of Clarke & Davies (1982), Appelbaum (1982), Dixon & Gunther (1982) and Conyon & Machin (1991) are examined
Nas obras sobre a economia solidária, em oposição à teoria socialista revolucionária, o autor tenta revigorar a concepção socialista utópica e converte em luta socialista, a luta pela autogestão produtiva no interior do capitalismoThe objective of this material is to present, discuss and analyze the theoretical work of Paul Israel Singer regarding the solidarity economy . The author attributes a significant role to the cooperatives, while rejecting the revolutionary political struggle of the proletariat by the conquest of state power as a strategy for the implementation of socialism. We demonstrate through this study that the fundamental thesis about the transition of the socialist, remained in his theoretical work on the "solidarity economy", specifically: 1) the rejection of the proletariat‟s revolutionary political struggle; 2) and the conditioning of the political struggle (for the democratization) in relation to the economic struggle for self-production. In the theoretical works about the solidarity economy , in opposition to the revolutionary socialist theory, the author reinforces the utopian socialist concept and transforms the struggle for self-production within capitalism into a socialist struggl
