Stump appendicitis: a rare and unusual complication after appendectomy. Case report and review of the literature
I NTRODUCTION : Stump appendicitis is a rare but important complication that can occour after an open or laparoscop-
ic appendectomy. Although it represents a recognized serious condition that should not be overlooked, it is not often con-
sidered by surgeons within the differential diagnoses faced with a patient presenting right iliac fossa abdominal pain,
particularly those who present a previous history of appendectomy.
M ATERIAL OF S TUDY : A comprehensive review of English literature was performed and 87 cases of stump appendicitis
were identified. Each case was charted based on 10 variables and data were analyzed. One original case of stump appen-
dicitis after open appendectomy treated at our institution is also described and taken as a model.
D ISCUSSION : Several factors may contribute to the etiology of stump appendicitis, mainly related to the length of the
residual tissue after appendectomy. A delay in diagnosis, possibly misled by a previous history of appendectomy, represents
a risk of complications and possible stump perforation. The imaging studies, especially CT scan, seem to be helpful tools
in getting the earliest possible diagnosis.
C ONCLUSION : Surgeons should be aware of the occurrence of this rare but dangerous entity, in order to avoid a delay
in diagnosis and in the appropriate therapeutic choice. We want to emphasize also the technical recommendations to be
respected in course of appendectomy
Structurally Constrained MUC1-Tn Mimetic Antigen as Template for Molecularly Imprinted Polymers (MIPs): A Promising Tool for Cancer Diagnostics
Abnormal glycoconjugates have distinctly been recognized as potential biomarkers for cancer diagnosis. A great deal of attention has been focused on Tn antigen, an oversimplified mucin-1 O-glycan, over-expressed in different cancers. Herein, we investigate the possibility to replace the use of anti-Tn monoclonal antibodies with an innovative class of catecholamine-based Molecularly Imprinted Polymers (MIPs), emerging in recent years as promising tools for bioanalytical applications. MIPs are synthetic receptors characterized by high sensitivity and specificity towards the imprinted target. Here, original polynorepinephrine-based MIPs coupled to Surface Plasmon Resonance biosensing for Tn antigen recognition are reported. We have verified the imprinting and binding capacity of these MIPs towards very small antigenic entities, represented by the natural Tn antigen and the TnThr mimetic 1 (conjugated to BSA or linked to a MUC1 hexapeptide analogue), and compared the biosensor performances with an anti-Tn monoclonal antibody. The results clearly display the effectiveness of the pursued imprinting strategies
Convex orderings in affine root systems II
AbstractThis paper contains several results concerning convex orderings in root systems. These results complete the analysis developed in earlier papers by the author. We obtain, in the finite case, a combinatorial characterization of reflections, longest elements in standard parabolic subgroups of the Weyl group of the root system, and of Coxeter elements. In the affine case, a refinement of the main construction done earlier by the author (J. Algebra172, 1995, 613–623) is described; moreover, infinite periodic compatible sets are classified
Il volume si conclude con l'indice dei nomi (a cura di Gemma Fusciello)I (of Lorenzo Cappelletti) Starting from the unknown architect’s forefinger pointed to the central plan building found in the background of the Sistine Perugino’s fresco The Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, the author offers a new interpretation of the entire fresco at both an iconographical and iconological level.
Having considered the most important studies about this fresco and taking into account a number of unpublished and unconsidered sources, the author rereads in particular the meaning of the central plan building, as well as the two Gospel episodes in the background; and he rereads also the grouping of the Twelve, along with the fifteenth century historical personages painted among them, in the foreground.
The author’s vision necessarily broodens also to comprehend Botticelli’s fresco named The Punishment of Corah, Dathan and Abiram which is placed on the opposite wall as a typological prefiguration of The Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven; and it broodens moreover to reconsider the series of 30/32 popes frescoed in the upper register of the Sistine Chapel.
The essay also offers hints for a more complete comprehension of the other fifteenth century frescoes of the Sistine Chapel.
II. (of Simona Benedetti) As part of the review of iconological and iconographic reading about the fresco of the “Delivery of the keys” by Perugino in the Sistine Chapel, conducted by Lorenzo Cappelletti, you go back and think about the significance of the building architecture depicted in the center of the fresco. In this sense, the contribution of Simona Benedetti, first, retraces the references to the fifteenth-century treatises concerning sacred buildings, which may have affected the determination of the octagonal building. Secondly, we consider the main factories octagonal building constructed previously painted, that may have been an established reference for the Perugino in the “Delivery of the keys”. Especially between architectures, which may have had a decisive influence in defining the iconographic factory octagonal present in the fresco, the church of St. Mary of Peace is the one on which this study focuses. The work was realized in the heart of Renaissance Rome just simultaneously fresco concerned, although it is undeniable points of contact and correspondence, both historical and figurative. In this regard are interesting connections between the reason of building the factory, the historical facts, the characters and the miraculous events and devotional, which has conditioned the unfolding of the construction site of the Templum Pacis in the last years of the pontificate of Sixtus IV. The historicity of the act of handing over the keys to Peter, that continues over time in the physical space of the Sistine Chapel, is the centrality of the iconographic message of the fresco by Perugino; so even the architecture, along with the characters represented, the real narrative structure, far from to the symbolism belonging to the Sistine period properly
Franciscans and Mathematics. The Case of Mariotto Guiducci, Friar Minor and Abacus Master (1427- Post 1496
The paper focuses on the figure of Mariotto Guiducci, a Florentine franciscan friar and abacus master from the 15th century, author of a mathematical treatise preserved in the National Library of Florence. By archival and bibliographical records, the case study may offer further insights about the topic, recently revived, on the relationship between Franciscanism and the mathematical sciences between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The article is divided in two parts: the first opens a glimpse into the Guiducci family and the teaching of practical mathematics in Florence and Prato, hinting at the convent life and experience of Mariotto; the second part is dedicated to the autograph codex and the Libro d’arismetricha, expression of a mathematical culture typical of the abacus tradition
The article is a reflection on parodic texts which vary the same hypotext in different ways and with different purposes (the case study is a comparative analysis between the two dannuntian parodies, La pioggia sul cappello, by Luciano Folgore, and Piove, by Eugenio Montale). While taking into consideration some traditional descriptions of the parodic phenomenon, the Author suggests an interpretation based on Gilles Fauconnier and Mark Turner’s Blending (or Conceptual integration) Theory. The model is not proposed as an alternative to the current analysis of parody, nor does it deny the acquisitions of literary criticism about the texts under examination. Instead, it is suggested as a potential paradigm for an explanatory hypothesis of the cognitive dynamics involved in the interpretation of two different types of parodies

Prototipe Pengendali Lampu Papi Pada Runway Berbasis Plc Dan Hmi Untuk Bandar Udara
Every airport always has an Airfield Lighting System (AFL) as a visual aid for landing, taking off, and taxiing aircraft so that flights run safely. One of the AFL is the Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) which functions as a pilot guide to provide the right landing angle signal on touch downs on the runway. PAPI consists of 4 boxes, namely boxes A, B, C, and D where each box has 2 PAPI lamps so that if you add up there are 8 PAPI lamps. Especially at Adi Soemarmo International Airport, Surakarta, the location between PAPI and Constant Current Regulator is very far away and there is no direct monitoring and control of PAPI. In the event that the PAPI is damaged, the technician receives information from the tower in advance and there is a delay in handling, this can affect flight security and safety. For the problems found, the author provides a solution, namely making a PAPI monitoring and controlling system using the CP1E N30SDR-A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) as the monitor display. The method used is the Voltage Divider voltage sensor which is connected to the PAPI and the ultrasonic sensor SRF05 to detect the altitude of the aircraft and then forward it to the Arduino, after that the PLC will receive data from the Arduino which is forwarded to the HMI as a monitor display. This tool can work well in terms of ultrasonic sensors, voltage readings and monitors on the HMI. The results of testing the voltage sensor on this tool are that it has an error in box A 3.92%, box B 1.28%, box C 4.7%, box D 2.09%
Un lungo percorso con Guido
The essay looks back at the most important steps of the relationship between the author and his friend Guido Davide Neri: it is remembered the different way they used to approach the philosophy of history, in particular Marxism, although they were both students of the same professor, Banfi. Their attitude towards the historical background of those years was different too because Neri moved towards socialism, made a theoretical-philosophical consideration, while Papi was more pragmatic and focused on practical policy. The author runs through the philosophical season of 70’s shared and experienced with his friend, when the theoretical background of the University of Milan was focused on the Husserl’s lifeworld, inaugurated in Italy by Enzo Paci
Growth hormone deficiency during the transition phase
The growth hormone (GH)-insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) axis has several roles. While achievement of a satisfactory height is probably the most important and well-known, it is now clear that it also affects body composition, metabolism, muscle mass, and bone density during the transition period. Recombinant-growth hormone (Rec-GH) therapy is normally administered to GH-deficient children to achieve a reasonable final height. Retesting with a provocative test (insulin tolerance test or growth-hormone-releasing hormone + arginine test) is necessary during the transition period, after measuring IGF-1 levels. If the patient is still GH-deficient, rec-GH therapy should be restarted at 0.2-0.5 mg/day up to a final dosage of 0.8-1.0 mg/day (albeit there is no general consensus on the dosage). In fact, there is widespread literature evidence of the negative impact of GH-deficiency during the transition period, which provokes increased visceral fat and waist/hip ratio, decreased muscle mass and bone density and increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. © Touch Medical Media 2012
