The research has been carried out in Italy, in the Hospital of Padua, and has as its background the relationship between the health worker (Italian) and the patient (foreigner). By the field observation and the reports provided by operators and users, we notice the intrusive nature of the linguistic problem and, at the same time, the difficulty of giving the right importance to communication (to its contextual, semantic and pragmatic aspects, as well as to informational ones) and to the relational dimension (which is dominated by organizational needs and focused on procedural aspects). Interpretative stereotypes emerge, preventing to understand the cultural implications involved in the relational dynamics; at the organizational level, the simultaneous presence of codified rules and implicit ones creates difficulties and misunderstandings. The clinical path is affected by this, revealing critical situations which regard the diagnostic, the implementation of specific intervention techniques and the patient compliance. It becomes necessary to make use of mediation services well-structured in their organizational aspects, which can help operators and users in the linguistic interaction, not reducing their action at this level but putting an emphasis on the intercultural dimension of relationships. There is also the need to implement measures capable of activating the internal resources of immigrant communities, to increase patients' health literacy, to intervene in the training of professionals (including medical staff), to revise the organizational routines, offering specific forms of flexibility and accompanying

D-Tagatose Feeding Reduces the Risk of Sugar-Induced Exacerbation of Myocardial I/R Injury When Compared to Its Isomer Fructose

It is known that fructose may contribute to myocardial vulnerability to ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. D-tagatose is a fructose isomer with less caloric value and used as low-calorie sweetener. Here we compared the metabolic impact of fructose or D-tagatose enriched diets on potential exacerbation of myocardial I/R injury. Wistar rats were randomizedly allocated in the experimental groups and fed with one of the following diets: control (CTRL), 30% fructose-enriched (FRU 30%) or 30% D-tagatose-enriched (TAG 30%). After 24 weeks of dietary manipulation, rats underwent myocardial injury caused by 30 min ligature of the left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery followed by 24 h′ reperfusion. Fructose consumption resulted in body weight increase (49%) as well as altered glucose, insulin and lipid profiles. These effects were associated with increased I/R-induced myocardial damage, oxidative stress (36.5%) and inflammation marker expression. TAG 30%-fed rats showed lower oxidative stress (21%) and inflammation in comparison with FRU-fed rats. Besides, TAG diet significantly reduced plasmatic inflammatory cytokines and GDF8 expression (50%), while increased myocardial endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) expression (59%). Overall, we demonstrated that D-tagatose represents an interesting sugar alternative when compared to its isomer fructose with reduced deleterious impact not only on the metabolic profile but also on the related heart susceptibility to I/R injury. © Copyright © 2021 Durante, Sgambellone, Lucarini, Failli, Laurino, Collotta, Provensi, Masini and Collino

Altérités poétiques d’un récit de vie. Parabole du failli de Lyonel Trouillot

    No full text
In Parabole du failli (2013), Lyonel Trouillot pays tribute to the famous Haitian actor Karl Marcel Casséus, who died in 1997. Blending together novel, obituary and poetry, the author attempts to delineate the enigmatic life of the main character, Pedro, an acclaimed actor who writes poetry in secret. Not only do the three genres merge and complement each other within the telling of a single story, they are supplemented by a metafictional discourse that questions the choice of writing style for biography, for the portrayal of an individual, for the historicization of an experience, and for the fictionalization of a life. Beyond the empirical portrait of the artist and Pedro’s life story, what happens in Parabole du failli is that poetry becomes the essential object of a complete biography where the fate of a poet intersects with the outcome of a novel, where the paths of existence and of writing intertwine within the poetic adventure itself

Abstract The thesis work is based on the real case study in Cartiera Lucchese S.p.a. It is an investigation of two different projects; Lean Project and Barcode Project. The aim is to improve on the organization’s performance. Lean Production techniques have been applied within the Lean Project related to the transformation (converting means same as transform) of tissue paper. The study is centered on a process line with high criticality: the line will show the biggest losses that have been the main focal point in order to monitor each and reduce them. The reduction of these losses allow efficiency to increase which is measured by the OEE index (Overall Equipment Effectivess). The Barcode Project involves the use of a bar code system to best manage spare parts within the warehouse. This project is going to increase the detection and the picking of the components as well as lean the creation of job orders. It will also help keep the IRA index next to 100% thus reducing inventory levels and warehouse costs. Due to the long implementation timing, the Barcode Project start-up has begun at the end of stage period, so results will be measured in next months

Pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidin-4-one derivatives as a novel class of selective aldose reductase inhibitors exhibiting antioxidant activity

    No full text
2-Phenyl-pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidin-4-one derivatives bearing a phenol or a catechol moiety in position 2 were tested as aldose reductase (ALR2) inhibitors and exhibited activity levels in the micromolar/submicromolar range. Introduction of a hydroxy group in position 6 or 9 gave an enhancement of the inhibitory potency (compare 18, 19, 28, and 29 vs 13 and 14). Lengthening of the 2-side chain to benzyl determined a general reduction in activity. The lack or the methylation of the phenol or catechol hydroxyls gave inactive (10-12, 21, 22, 25-27) or scarcely active (15, 17, 20) compounds, thus demonstrating that the phenol or catechol hydroxyls are involved in the enzyme pharmacophoric recognition. Moreover, all the pyridopyrimidinones displayed significant antioxidant properties, with the best activity shown by the catechol derivatives. The theoretical binding mode of the most active compounds obtained by docking simulations into the ALR2 crystal structure was fully consistent with the structure-activity relationships in the pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidin-4-one series

Development of a manufacturing engineering system for the motor industry : executive summary

    No full text
Manufacturing Engineering is concerned with converting a product specification into the most appropriate method of manufacture to produce the product to the correct cost and quality. Lack of integration and 'over the wall' engineering between design and manufacturing engineering adds to the time and cost of product development, and has significant effects on the subsequent cost and quality of the product. Because of the size and complexity of manufacturing engineering within the motor industry, the task is often divided between disparate, isolated, departments that traditionally have their own goals and objectives, supported by different business processes and systems. The adverse effects of the lack of integration between design and manufacturing engineering re-emerge within manufacturing engineering itself. As a part of this research, the author analysed the existing information flows through manufacturing engineering within Rover Group, and showed that the business processes and systems generated a high duplication of effort and data, and reinforced functional demarcation between the departments. The new Rover Integrated Manufacturing Engineering System (RIMES) has been developed to address these issues. RIMES has been developed using TQM techniques and evolutionary delivery, new to Rover, to involve the manufacturing engineering customer in all aspects of business analysis and system development. The resultant system deliverables have therefore more closely met the customer requirements and have consequently been implemented with greater customer support. The subsequent changes to manufacturing engineering culture have been promoted from within manufacturing engineering, with the RIMES system acting as a lever for the change. The research has been primarily concerned with the analysis and development of appropriate solutions in three main areas: integration of design and manufacturing engineering, change control procedures to maintain data integrity, and business processes to improve efficiency of manufacturing engineering and the quality of its output. These are all issues that are important for supporting concurrent engineering but were found not to have been adequately addressed, either in the research literature or in commercial systems, for applications involving large, complex products. The new system provides support for the electronic integration of design and manufacturing engineering information, which is based on a technique developed that combines data 'push' and 'pull' principles, and enables the efficient communication of product specification to manufacturing engineering. It provides a single system and repository of manufacturing engineering knowledge, a common fundamental business process, and a common and consistent way of presenting manufacturing engineering information and reports. Concurrent engineering is promoted through early availability of information for downstream processes and strict change control procedures have been developed to maintain data integrity. The previously disparate departments of process engineering and industrial engineering are now working concurrently from the same data which has improved the accuracy, consistency and understanding of information both internally and in external reporting. The time to market has been reduced because product specification information is provided earlier and simultaneously to all manufacturing engineering functions. The manufacturing engineering process and its output have been redesigned. New working methods introduced through the RIMES system have promoted reorganisation and the elimination of demarcation within manufacturing engineering to further facilitate concurrent engineering. Newly designed multi media forms for communication of process information to manufacturing, developed in consultation with the RIMES user community, has promoted team working on the shop-floor
