    Coconut.

    No full text
Coconut palm (Cocos nucifera L) is an important perennial crop distributed in most parts of the Asia and the pacific region, and some parts of America. Coconut exists in two major classes, which are typically recognized on the basis of stature: Tall and Dwarf. Cross-breeding between Tall and Dwarf types of coconut has led to the generation of many hybrid coconut varieties. Hybrids with high yield potential and attractive agronomical traits are grown commercially for harvesting either tender nuts or mature nuts. Tender nuts with the maturity stage of 7-8 months are freshly used for drinking or preserved under cold storage for future uses. Mature coconuts are mainly used for obtaining kernel, which is a base material for coconut milk as well as a host of other products. As coconut kernel is composed of lipids, proteins, carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins, it could be a wholesome food, which can supplement the daily dietary requirement of people

Analysis of Innovative Leadership in the Educational Leadership of Prophet Muhammad SAW Abstract Studies on the leadership of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as an ideal model are abundant, yet the operational articulation of that model as an innovative leadership framework for contemporary Islamic education facing digital disruption and character degradation remains limited. This study aims to fill that gap by recontextualizing the Prophet’s leadership qualities into an applicable concept of innovative leadership. Using a qualitative design through a literature study, it analyzes primary and secondary sources with content analysis techniques. The findings map the Prophet’s leadership into two dimensions: a personal dimension (s?idd?q, am?nah, tabl?gh, fatanah) and a public dimension (such as exemplary conduct, consultation/sh?r?, and effective communication). Based on this mapping, innovative leadership is operationally defined as a leader’s capacity to integrate universal prophetic values with strategies that are adaptive, collaborative, and technology-based. The study proposes a transformative model that operationalizes prophetic values through three practical strategies: character habituation, participatory policy, and technology-integrated curriculum design. The main contribution of this research lies in formulating an operational framework that Islamic educational institutions can adopt to respond measurably to the challenges of the digital era

A critical examination of the "Tarikh I Bayhaqi".

Abu'l-Fazl Muhammad ibn al-Husayn al-Bayhaqi, the author of the Tarikh I Mas'udi, was born in the year 385 A.H. (995) or 386 A.H. (996), and died in Safar , 470 A.H. (August, 1077). Among his contemporaries included several great men both in the field of literature and otherwise. His main work, the history of Sultan Mas'ud, the son of Mahmud of Ghaznah, is perhaps the only history of its kind which draws entirely first upon the first-hand, and then upon the eye-witness, information. So far there has been known in Europe and India only one edition of this book, i.e., the Bibliotheca Indica, Calcutta; but there is another, and more complete, edition of it, namely, the Tehran ed. 1307 A.H. (1889-90). The real title of this history is unknown, various authors calling it by different names. The greater part of the existing portion was composed during the years 450 - 451 A.H. (1058 - 1060), though a beginning was made in 448 A.H. (1056-7). The extant part comprises only Vols V and X, in part, and VI and VII to IX in full. It is generally said that this history started from the beginning of the Ghaznawid dynasty, but internal evidence shows that it began with the year 409 A.H. (1018-19) perhaps in continuation of Utbi's Tarikh I Yamini which is brought down to the year 409 or 410 (1018-19 or 1019-20). The period covered by the extant portion extends from Zu'l-Hijjah, 421 A.H. (November, 1030) to 15th, Sha'ban, 432 A.H. (21st April, 1041); while the period dealt with in the whole including the lost parts, may be summed up, though with no scrupulous exactitude, within the years 409 A.H. and 44 A.H. (1018-19 and 1053)

Conversion of African Americans to Islam : a sociological analysis of the Nation of Islam and associated groups

    No full text
'Conversion of African Americans to Islam: A Sociological Analysis of the Nation of Islam Associated groups' is an empirical study of the religious experience of people who had/have distinctive features in terms of race, ethnicity and historical experience. The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate how African Americans' (AAs) conversion experience in general, and the Nation of Islam associated groups' conversion in particular, differ from the studies of recruitment and conversion in the sociology of religion and New Religion Movements (NRMs). More specifically, their recruitment and conversion experiences to Islam diverge from those who converted to mainstream Islam. The study investigates how AAs' historical experience, soci-economic difficulties and the racism they encountered shaped and influenced their religious understanding. Research methods involved participant observations, a survey questionnaire, interviews, conversations, personal communications and correspondence. To collect ethnographic data eleven months field research was conducted mainly in the Chicago area and on two short visits to Detroit, and three years continued communications with Muslim officials and academics in the area. During the field research and afterwards through personal communication 181 survey questionnaire responses were received, and 23 Muslim officials, academics and ordinary Muslims were interviewed through semi-structured, unstructured interviews, conversation and correspondence. The thesis begins with a brief history of Islam and Muslims in general and the African American Muslims (AAMs) in particular. More emphasis is given on the historical development of the Nation of Islam (NOl). Then in Chapter III, discussions of schisms in the history of the NOT are examined from sociological perspectives of social and religious movements. In Chapter IV I aimed to formulate my own perspective to analyse and study the conversion experiences of AAMs to Islam. I used a multivariate approach, considering selectively widely held conversion and recruitment theories in the sociology of the religion. I consider in Chapter V the predisposing conditions for AAMs that influence their decision-making to join in the NOT, for example, political and nationalistic sentiments and socio-economic deprivations. In Chapter VI I have applied different terms to describe their religious experiences, such as conversion, alteration and reversion. I have analysed further their encounters with the NOT, the methods of recruitment they used and their major motives for joining the NOT and converting to Tslam. In the concluding chapters (Chapter VII VTTT) I describe the different responses of AAMS to Islam following the death of Elijah Muhammad. It is found out that the Islamic appeal has polarised. While Farakhan's NOT appeared to continue the tradition and style of the old NOI with the emphasis on nationalistic and socio-economic factors, Tmam W. D. Mohammed's community turned more to the religious and spiritual aspects of Tslam. These different approaches led to a polarisation of the appeal of Tslam to AAMS. This thesis contributes to knowledge in four key areas; the sociology of religion and religious movements, the sociology of social and nationalistic movements, religious and Islamic studies

Muhammad in The West: Analysis of the Historical Description of the Prophet Muhammad in Armstrong’s Writings

    No full text
The main objectives of this study are to analyze and understand: (1) the general constructions of the Prophet Muhammad in the descriptions of Western writers; and (2) Armstrong's description of the Prophet Muhammad. This study is library research that uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive-critical method. Data were collected by reading various biographical literature on Prophet Muhammad from Western writers, which were grouped into three criteria: orientalist writers, revisionist writers, and popular writers. The results of the study show that: (1) there is a dynamic dialectic in the description of the figure of the Prophet Muhammad by Western writers, both from orientalist circles, such as W. Montgomery Watt, David Samuel Margoliouth, Edward Said, revisionists such as Patricia Crone, Michael Cook, Fred M. Donner, and popular writers like Karen Armstrong. This dynamic shows that the effort to understand the figure of the Prophet Muhammad is an important effort to understand Islam in Western society; and (2) Armstrong's description as the author of popular religious studies books about the figure of the Prophet Muhammad; made a major contribution to reducing various misunderstandings about Islam and the figure of the Prophet Muhammad in the eyes of Western society
