Early Pedestrian Movement Detection Using Smart Devices Based on Human Activity Recognition
In the future, vulnerable road users (VRUs) such as cyclists and pedestrians will be equipped with smart devices capable of communicating with intelligent vehicles and infrastructure. This allows for cooperation between all traffic participants, such as cooperative intention detection and future trajectory prediction for advanced VRU protection. Smart devices can be used to detect the pedestrians’ intentions to warn approaching vehicles. In this article, we propose a method based on human activity recognition for early pedestrian movement transition detection using smart devices. These movement detections serve as valuable information for pedestrian path prediction and intention detection. We represent the pedestrians’ behavior using four states, i.e., waiting, starting, moving, and stopping. The movement transition detection is modeled as a classification problem and tackled by means of machine learning classifiers. The labels for training the classifier are obtained by evaluation of recorded high-precision head trajectories. We compare two different classification paradigms: A simple support-vector machine with linear kernel and a more complex XGBoost classifier. Our empirical studies with real-world data originating from experiments which 11 test subjects involving 79 different scenes show that we are able to detect movement transitions robust and early, reaching an F1-score of 85%
Start Intention Detection of Cyclists using an LSTM Network
In this article, we present an approach for start intention detection of cyclists based on their head trajectories. Therefore, we are using a network architecture based on Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) cells, which is able to handle input sequences of different lengths. This is important because, for example, due to occlusions, cyclists often only become visible to approaching vehicles shortly before dangerous situations occur. Hence, the dependency of the results on the input sequence length is investigated. We use a dataset with 206 situations where cyclists were transitioning from waiting to moving that was recorded from a moving vehicle in inner-city traffic. With an input sequence length of 1.0 s we achieve an F1-score of 96.2% on average 0.680 s after the first movement of the bicycle. We obtain similar results for sequence lengths down to 0.2 s. For shorter sequences, the results regarding the F1-score and the mean detection time deteriorate considerably
Bernhard Boyneburg (Barber) Collection ca. 1919-1975
The collection contains handwritten and typed manuscripts of essays by Bernhard Boyneburg about Richard Wagner and various other topics. Also included is the copy of a letter from the International Tracing Service of the Red Cross about the fate of Bernhard Barber, his wife and his son.Sophie B. Mann, October 2002Bernhard Barber was an author who published political and philosophical works under the name Boyneburg. He was born 1874 in Leipzig, but lived and worked in Vienna. In 1941, he, his wife Olga née Prager (b. 1897) and their son Eduard Fritz (b. 1905) were deported to the Ghetto in Lodz, where they perished. Barberâs daughter Sophie Mann survived the Holocaust.

Heldenplatz by Thomas Bernhard
The play Heldenplatz is the last and one of the most important plays by the Austrian author Thomas Bernhard, and it was published and performed in 1988. It caused a scandal in Austria even before its release due to the presence of critical assertions regarding Austrian post-war society in the text. According to Bernhard, that society had not dealt with its nazist past. This reaction shows Bernhard's view to be correct and it highlights the importance of theatre for society
Additional BDD100K Context Annotations
This dataset provides additional context annotations and extends the BDD100K dataset [1]. Therefore, the approximately 80,000 images with annotation for 2D object detection in the BDD100K dataset were annotated with additional context attributes. The application possibilities of the dataset are diverse. It could be used for model training or evaluating the model performance in different contexts combination, as we did. The annotated contexts per image contain 11 attributes (time_of_day, sky, illumination, precipitation, infrastructure, road, tunnel, construction_site, clear_windshield, light_exposure, and reflections). The underlying annotation guideline with further details is also available for download. To use the context annotations, the official [BDD100K Dataset](https://doc.bdd100k.com/download.html) is required. On top, the provided python-script "extent_bdd_with_context.py" has to be executed to merge the BDD100K original annotations and our additional context annotations. Further instructions are available in the readme file.[1] Yu, F. and Chen, H. and Wang, X. and Xian, W. and Chen, Y. and Liu, F. and Madhavan, V. and Darrell, T.: "BDD100K: A Diverse Driving Dataset for Heterogeneous Multitask Learning", in Proc. of CVPR, Seattle, WA, USA, 2020, doi: 10.1109/CVPR42600.2020.00271IMPORTANT: In case you use the dataset, please cite our corresponding article mentioned below.KI Data ToolingVersion 1.
