Family History of Hypertension and the Risk of Overweight in Japanese Children: Results From the Toyama Birth Cohort Study
Background: Family history can be a useful screening tool in the assessment and management of the risk for noncommunicable disease. However, no data have yet been reported on family history of hypertension and its effect on children's overweight. Methods: A total of 7249 Japanese children enrolled in the Toyama Birth Cohort Study were followed until 2002 (mean age: 12.3 years). Family history of hypertension was ascertained by asking children's parents whether children's biological parents or grandparents had doctor-diagnosed hypertension. Child overweight was defined according to international criteria for age-and sex-specific body mass index. Results: The prevalence of child overweight at age 12 was 21.7% for males and 15.9% for females. After adjusting for family structure, parental employment status, and lifestyle factors, we found that a maternal family history of hypertension was positively associated with the risk of child overweight at age 12 (adjusted odds ratio [OR] 1.21, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.04-1.39). The adjusted OR increased from 1.16 (95% CI 0.99-1.35) to 1.42 (95% CI 1.04-1.92) to 4.75 (95% CI 1.35-16.69) as the number of family members with hypertension increased from 1 to 2 to 3, respectively. There was no significant difference in the prevalence of overweight between children with a paternal family history of hypertension and those without. Conclusions: A maternal family history of hypertension was positively associated with the risk of overweight in children at age 12.Public, Environmental & Occupational HealthSCI(E)04304-3112
Consideration of the Issues concerning Planning Methods of Quality Countryside Houses from the Viewpoint of Sustainability of the Local Community : A Case Study of Hirakigaoka Housing Development in Toyama
The purpose of this research is to consider the issues concerning planning methods of quality countryside houses from the viewpoint of sustainability of the local community. Satoyama Club, which is the non-profit organization in Toyama, has been developing Hirakigaoka housing development in the suburbs of Toyama. Through a case study of this development, the following points of an argument to planning methods were found: One is the rigidity of the procedure to plan quality countryside houses causes some restrictions on resident participation, especially taking a cooperative approach. The other is the typical house design makes attribution of community members unified and the sustainability unstable
Geochemical Study of Groundwater in the Sho River Fan, Toyama Prefecture for Heat Usage by a Geothermal Heat Pump
AbstractChemical and isotopic (D, O) compositions of 56 water samples from the Sho River fan, Toyama, northern part of central Japan, were analyzed to examine their water quality, origins, and water flow for geothermal heat extraction used for air-conditioning and melting of road snow by a geothermal heat pump (Geo-HP). Groundwaters are a mixture of two big river waters (Sho and Oyabe) and precipitation. Deep groundwaters from observation wells are characterized to be high in pH and enriched in HCO3 compared to the shallow groundwaters. These features may indicate that the shallow groundwater originated from a mixture of river water and precipitation moving to the north and becoming confined due to the presence of an impermeable layer. Groundwaters attain high pH due to ion exchange reactions with rocks containing clay minerals, where HCO3 concentration also increases
Techniques used in the Crystallization of the Earth: The Ryuji Kitagawa Mineral Collection exhibit
For exhibits held at museums, curators plan and create exhibits matched to the nature of the exhibit venue and the visitors expected, carefully structuring the exhibit to suit the museum in question. The standard theory of exhibits has been discussed in various literature, but there have been few elucidations of the subtle exhibition techniques employed by curators. From July 18, 2015 through September 6, 2015, the Toyama Science Museum held an exhibit entitled: Crystallization of the Earth: The Ryuji Kitagawa Mineral Collection. This paper explains the exhibitional techniques that the author did in the exhibition. Further, the results of a survey distributed to visitors are used to assess future issues surrounding how exhibition techniques are evaluated by the public.departmental bulletin pape

富山県に於ける自然水の地球化学的研究
Part I. The Distribution Of Phosphate Ion In Toyama Prefecture. Dr. Kimura and his collaborators have observed in Noto Peninsula that natural water shows a comparatively high level of phosphate ion (P043-) concentrations wherever the ore deposits of phosphor are found. In the neighbouring prefecture Toyama, it has been found by the author that the distribution of P043- of relatively low concentrations is seen in the western part of the prefecture where the strata are geologically similar to those of Noto, while in the eastern part the further we go, the less frequently P043- is detectable. Part II. On The Mineral Springs Located In The West Of Takaoka City. In the district, the springs may be divided into two groups regarding their positions, one locating on the straight line of the fault along the southern foot of Hutagami hills and the other along the northern foot; the chemical compositions of the springs, however, do not agree with such a grouping and they may more reasonably be divided into a sulfate-rich and a chloride-rich groups. In Toyama prefecture, the highest concentrations of Cl- and P043- are found among these springs.
5(1/2), Page 58-6
Discordance Detection in Regional Ordinance: Ontology-based Validation
Abstract. In this paper, we propose a procedure of discordance detection in an actual legal code, that is the regional ordinance of Toyama Prefecture, Japan. In this study, we expand the notion of inconsistency to the discordance including antonyms based on an ontology, and precluded the conventional negative connective. We hav
