Depositional timing of the Tetori Group along the Kumano-gawa River, Toyama Prefecture
A tuffaceous bed was discovered from the Tetori Group upstream of the Kumano-gawa River in the southern part of Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture. As a result of U–Pb dating of the zircon grains from a rock sample of the tuffaceous bed, we obtained the youngest cluster (weighted mean 206Pb/238U) date of 121.33 ± 0.80 Ma (2σ). This date indicates the Early Cretaceous (Late Barremian to Early Aptian) and is interpreted as the depositional age of the Tetori Group along the Kumano-gawa River.departmental bulletin pape
Leaf-fall Rhythm and Acorn Production in Quercus salicina Based on Litter-trap Surveys
Litter survey was carried out by the litter-trap method for 23 years on Quercus salicina forest in Kamiichi-machi, Toyama Prefecture. The litter mass of Q. salicina ranged from 1.7 - 8.2 ton/ha, of which the amount of fallen leaves was 0.89 to 7.28 ton/ha, the amount of fallen acorn was 0 to 2.77 ton/ha, the amount of fallen male flower was 0 to 0.60 ton/ha, and the amount of fallen branches was 0.13 to 1.68 ton/ha.
The annual fluctuation of leaf-fall and male flower showed a 2-year cycle in all observation years. The results of this survey also revealed that the annual patterns of leaf and flower fall have their own rhythm. In years with little leaf fall, a positive correlation was found between the amount of fruit fall and the average surface temperature in June of the previous year, and a negative correlation was found between the average surface temperature in March of the fruit-bearing year and the average temperature 2 m above ground in January of the previous year. In years with heavy leaf fall, a positive correlation was found between the average surface temperature in March of the previous year and the amount of fallen leaves. These results suggest that climatic factors are involved in the intrinsic system that controls acorn production and leaf expansion rhythms.departmental bulletin pape
A new species of the genus Iais (Crustacea, Isopoda, Janiridae) living on the body of a sphaeromatid isopod, Sphaeroma wadai Nunomura, 1994

Andesite dike and psammitic hornfels observed in the Miocene Kurosedani Formation distributed in Tatemaya Town, eastern Toyama
Middle Miocene Andesite dike intruding into a sandstone bed of the Lower-to-Middle Miocene Kurosedani Formation and psammitic hornfels formed on the contact surface of the dike observed in Tateyama Town, eastern Toyama Prefecture, is reported. The andesite is characterized by glomeroporphyritic texture mainly composed of aggregates of feldspar phenocryst and grayish matrix. Contact surface of the andesite dike exhibit a characteristic winkle structure formed nearly parallel to the surface, which indicate the intruding direction. Contact metamorphic zoning is recognized in the psammitic hornfels composed of highly recrystallized, light greenish grey facies (sutured to decussate textures), black facies (porphyroblastic texture) and low metamorphic grade, dark purpleish-grey facies (nearly preserving the sandstone lithofacies) ranging from the contact surface into the sandstone bed.departmental bulletin pape
