Notable Modifications of Sushrut Samhita by Dalhana
Sushruta, the father of surgery gave Sushrut Samhita to his followers. The Sushrut Samhita gives simple, precise, logical and practical knowledge. Available commentary on Sushrut Samhita is Nibandhasangraha which is written by Dalhana who gave reasoning and description about some unsolved puzzles in Sushrut Samhita. This commentary is available in Sanskrit language which is unrecognized by common Ayurveda scholars and researchers. Although it is very difficult to understand and translate the Samhita in an easy language it will be a boon to all the Ayurveda scholars if we can understand the Dalhan’s explanation of Sushruta’s view. In this article we shall try to understand and interpret the knowledge of Sushruta and Dalhana from Sutrasthan Adhyaya no. 1 to 10 in parallel to western surgical knowledge to get a better understanding of basic principles of ancient and western surgical practice

Role of Ksharaplota in Lacerated Infected Wound - A Case Study
Lacerated wound most commonly occurs due to road traffic accidents. Such lacerated wound when ignored gets infected due to low immunity & many other factors. Infected wounds requires surgical debridement to maintain good healing process. Such procedure is very painful & patient gets afraid of surgical debridement .In this way patient keeps away himself from proper treatment. In such cases non surgical procedure should be used which are similarly effective to surgical procedure hence this attempt is tried to make by Ksharaplota in the present study. Ksharaplota is used with dressing on alternate day for 10 days. After each sitting, observations were recorded. After 10 days healthy granulation tissues & wound contraction occurred. Hence Ksharaplota is useful as non surgical parameter which similarly effective to surgical parameter
Expository aspect for action of Ksharaplota
Kshara Karma or chemical cauterization described in Ayurveda as one of the Anushastras (Minimum Assess Surgery). It is considered superior in all types of Anushstra due to its efficacy in conditions where all other measures failed to cure diseases or surgical interventions. Healing of wounds and cuts is a very difficult if wound or cuts becomes worse and turned to Dushta Varna due to negligence and the inappropriate approaches of treatment. However wound healing is a natural defense mechanism of body but in complicated and severe cases there are need of therapeutic practices toboost healing mechanism of body. Father of Indian surgery Sushruta mentioned use of dressing materials such as; Pichu, Plota, Kawalika and Vikeshika for the management of Dushta Vrana, Plota used to clean & covers the Vrana very deeply and helps to removes debris of wounds effectively. Considering these all facts present article emphasized mode of action of Ksharaplota (Alkaline Medicated Gauze) for exploring its surgical significance with logical interventions.

Study of the Efficacy of Ksharaplota in Dushtavrana w.s.r to Infected Wound
Vrana ( wound and ulcer) & process of healing is the soul of Shalyatantra Chikitsa (Surgical treatment ). Dushta Vrana means getting vitiated by Dosha & hence Dushta Vrana or infected wound is characterized by bad smell, abnormal color with profuse discharge, severe pain and longer healing time. The severity of infected wounds and their vast range of etiologies, The treatment is cleaning & dressing the wound or it can be more extensive. It may require surgical intervention to close the wound and stabilize the patient. Acharya Sushruta defines Kshara as the substance possessing Ksharana and Kshanan properties. Ksharaplota formulation was selected and applied over the affected infected wound with the help of gauze piece. During the preparation of Ksharaplota, it is coated with Snuhi kshira, Apamarga kshara & Haridra. All these drugs are Shodhana & Ropana. It was observed that Ksharaplota has the properties as sustained release of drug, absorbs discharges, less painful & easily acceptable by the patient with excellent Sodhana & Ropana Karma. The clinical study has been done on 438 patients, selected randomly and divided in two groups. Group A 220 patients i.e. trial group, were treated with local application of Ksharaplota. The Group B 218 patients i.e. control group, were treated with Gold standard. The clinical assessment was done on the basis of clinical presentation of Dushta Vrana, (Infected wound) before and after the treatment. As grading used for assessment of parameters which were ordinal in nature, “Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test” was used for within the group assessment (i.e. before and after treatment of a group). For between the group assessment of parameters, Mann Whitney – U test was applied. We had tested hypothesis for each parameter and result was interpreted accordingly. The level of significance was kept at 5% (P=0.05). And the result of the present study found significant
Role of agnikarma in the management of chronic plantar fasciitis
Chronic plantar Fasciitis is a common Condition in painful heel. Heel pain is observed in number of conditions like sever\u27s disease, Calcaneal knob, Bursitis, bony spur, Pagets , Orteomyelitis, acute plantar fasciitis and chronic plantar fascitis. Management of the above condition is done by medicine, para surgical procedure and surgical procedures as per requirement. But these treatments modalities are lengthy having complications and are not suitable for common people belonging to developed countries. As the reference of Acharya Sushruta suggests the disease chronic plantar fasciitis can be correlated with Vatakantaka. Vatakantaka is Snaya Asthi Sandhi Aashrita, so the patient should be kept under Agnikarma therapy upto a satisfactory level of relief from pain. It may be for long duration and hence in this study a case of chronic plantar fasciitis was treated by Agnikarma for a period of 45 days . In this period 6 sittings was administered at the interval of 7 days giving a complete relief from pain. After completion of Agnikarma , the patient was followed up and observed for recurrence for 3 months

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
