    New Jersey Charter Schools: A Data-Driven View - 2018 Update, Part I

    New Jersey charter schools have grown significantly over the last decade in enrollment, in the number of sending school districts, and in financial impact: •In the 2017-18 school year, enrollment in New Jersey’s traditional and renaissance charter schools surpassed 53,000 students, accounting for 3.6% of the state’s publicly funded student population. •Charter enrollment has more than tripled over the last decade. •Almost half of all New Jersey school districts send students and funding to charter schools. The number of such districts has increased from 198 in 2007-08 to 273 in 2017-18. •In the 2017-18 school year, traditional and renaissance charter schools will receive an anticipated 750millioninfundingfromNewJerseysschooldistricts,morethanfourandahalftimesthe750 million in funding from New Jersey’s school districts, more than four and a half times the 164 million transferred to charter schools a decade ago. New Jersey charter schools enroll a fundamentally different student population than the districts where their students reside: •New Jersey charter schools continue to enroll proportionally fewer special education and Limited English Proficient students than their sending district public schools. •The special education students enrolled in charter schools tend to have less-costly disabilities compared to special education students in the district public schools. •Measures of student poverty are becoming increasingly unreliable because of school district participation in the US Department of Agriculture’s Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), which allows high-poverty school districts and charter schools to provide free meals to all of their students. However, data for non-CEP districts shows that many charter schools continue to enroll fewer at-risk students then their sending district public schools. In light of these findings, we recommend that: •New Jersey should amend the state’s charter school law, The Charter School Program Act, to align the power to authorize new charter schools and expand existing charter schools with the financial impact of those decisions. •The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) should modify the criteria used for evaluating charter schools for approval, renewal, expansion, and closure, to give substantial weight to how closely individual charter schools mirror the student population characteristics of their sending school districts, including Limited English Proficiency, economic disadvantage, and special education disability classifications. •NJDOE should examine why New Jersey charter schools do not reflect the population of their sending school districts and make public the data that is already collected, to enable researchers to further study this problem. •NJDOE should explore more accurate ways of measuring differences in student socio-economic status, including survey and sampling methods.Research report

Part II discusses the field’s historic sources of subsidized capital and why they have shrunk. Part III reviews potential new sources of capital and the organizational ways that CDLFs are responding to their changed environment.     Ideja ovog završnog rada je objasniti sustav SASS, te pomoću njega i aplikacijskog okvira Bootstrap-a napraviti stranicu koja će osnovno objasniti što je to SASS i kako se koristi. Za kreiranje stranice, potrebno je barem osnovno poznavanje HTML I CSS jezika, jer SASS i druga proširenja nude mnoge prednosti u brzini i učinkovitosti, no ako niste još upoznati s CSS-om teško da će te razumjeti predprocesor SASS. Kako ove tehnologije funkcioniraju, objašnjeno je kroz primjere te nakon toga vrlo lako možete napraviti vlastitu stranicu. Cilj web stranice je da bude responzivan, odnosno prilagodljiv svim vrstama ekrana, a za to nam pomaže framework Bootstrap. U praktičnom radu postoje pet .html datoteka( Početna, O SASS-u, Varijable, Nesting i Mixins ). U tim datotekama kroz primjere je objašnjen i prikazan rad predprocesora SASS-a.The idea of this work is to explain the SASS system and with the use of it and the application framework called Bootstrap develop a web page which will explain what SASS system is and how it should be used.For developing the web page it is required to at least know the basics of HTML and CSS language because SASS and other extensions offer speed and efficiency advantages. If you are not familiar with CSS it will be harder to understand the SASS preprocessor.By following the examples in this work, it will be easier to create your own web page and understand how these technologies work. The goal of this web page is for it to be responsive or in other words, adaptable to all kinds of screens. To accomplish this, I used Bootstrap framework. In the practical part of this work, there are five HTML files(Home, About SASS, Variables, Nesting and Mixings). In these files it is shown and explained how the preprocessor SASS works

    U ovom radu pobliže se prikazuju okolnosti nastanka te razvoj stilskog jezika CSS kroz godine. U uvodu rada prikazuju se uvjeti u kojima je nastao navedeni stilski jezik, a kroz sljedeća poglavlja govori se o postupnom razvoju CSS-a kao standardnog jezika za stilsko oblikovanje HTML datoteka, ali i njegovim karakteristikama i dodanim funkcijama sa svakom novom inačicom istog. Nakon detaljnog i velikog uvodnog dijela, u radu se govori o SASS preprocesoru (SASS: Syntactically Awesome Style Sheets), točnije, o karakteristikama njegovih dvaju postojećih sintaksi i njegovoj svrsi. Tomu slijedi odjeljak o instalaciji i praktičnoj primjeni istog na postojećem projektu, nakon čega iznosimo zaključne napomene o SASS preprocesoru

    Development of a Wordpress theme by using SASS and Gulp

    Ovaj rad opisuje izradu teme za CMS Wordpress s ACF dodatkom. ACF dodatak (engl. Advanced Custom Fields Plugin) proširuje administratorovo sučelje tako da admin može dodavati gotove i stilizirane elemente (npr. klizač, citat, CTA link itd.) koji su definirani u samoj temi od strane autora teme. Osim mogućnosti dodavanja gotovih elemenata na stranicu, ACF dodatak nam omogućuje da konfiguriramo i dodatne globalne postavke (poput izbornika u zaglavlju, teksta u podnožju i sl.). Naglasak rada je na samoj izradi teme za CMS Wordpress. Pri izradi teme koristio se Gulp, alat koji služi za automatiziranje repetitivnih zadataka u web developmentu poput osvježavanja preglednika, minimiziranja koda i slično. Umjesto klasičnog CSS-a koristio se SASS (Syntactically Awesome Style Sheets) s kojim možemo pisati CSS koristeći novu, bolju sintaksu. SASS se mora kompilirati u klasičan CSS. To je također riješeno primjenom Gulpa. Osim toga korišteni su Bourbon i Neat (SASS dodaci koji u sebi sadrže mnoštvo predefiniranih i često korištenih elemenata). Od ostalih programskih alata, korišten je sustav virtualizacije Vagrant i JavaScript programska zbirka Modernizr. S Vagrantom smo pokrenuli drugi operacijski sustav (Linux) unutar postojećeg (Windows) radi boljeg razvojnog okruženja. Modernizr je alat s kojim se mogu provjeriti mogućnosti Internetskog preglednika (poput podrške za vektorsku grafiku, CSS3 animacije i tranzicije, HTML5 videa i sl.) te implementacije alternative ukoliko preglednik ne podržava pojedinu mogućnost.This final paper describes the procedure of making a Wordpress CMS theme with ACF plugin. ACF plugin (Advanced Custom Fields) expands admin user interface so that admin can add defined and stylized elements (like Slider, Quote, CTA link etc.) which are defined in the theme itself and created by the author of the theme. Besides the feature to add defined elements on the page, ACF allows us to configure additional global settings (like links in a header, text in a footer etc.). The paper focuses on making the theme itself. While developing it, Gulp was used, a tool that automates repetitive tasks in web development like browser refreshing, code minimizing etc. Instead of classic CSS, we used SASS (Syntactically Awesome Style Sheets) with whom it is possible to write CSS using new, improved syntax. SASS has to be compiled into classic CSS. Compiling was also automated with Gulp. Bourbon and Neat are SASS frameworks that contain a lot of predefined elements that are often used. Other tools that were used are Vagrant and Modernizr. Vagrant was used to start another operating system (Linux) within our current (Windows) to make a better work environment. With Modernizr, it is possible to check the abilities of a browser (like support of vector graphics, CSS3 animations and transitions, HTML5 video etc.) and define alternatives in case browser doesn't support certain feature

    This report is the user\u27s manual of SASS v.21, the Spreadsheet Anthropometric Scaling System (version 2.1). It describes the usage of SASS, a spreadsheet-like system which allows flexible interactive access to all anthropometric variables needed to size a computer-based human figure, described structurally by a PEABODY file. Data that may be accessed is organized into the following groups : segment dimension ( girth ), joint limits, center of mass, and strength, all of which work based on statistical population data. SASS creates generic computer-based human figures based on this data. SASS also is an anthropometric database and interactive query system that works upon anthropometric data of real individuals. Scaled computer-based human figures created by SASS can be displayed directly, and interactively changed, within the Jack software
