The area I chose to make my research exists between Strefis hill and Lycabetous and is included in a square which is formed from the streets Solwnos-Charilaou Trikoupi-Asklipiou-Voulgaroktonou and is named Neapolis Exarchiwn. The view that I am considering the area has aims to find the identity of the area and the nowadays problems of the citizens. As a result it came that it is a composition of different pictures which include different population groups and urban architecture from each period and land uses that change from place to place. The main issue which I locate in the area is the hight density of closed business.Being motivated by this problem and a research of Athens municipal in 1993 for the area I choose to look at the lack of social infrastructure by organizing a network with main axis Mavromichali street.According to the age of population children-youngsters-elderly aged similar uses being placed.i choose to consider in a larger scale social housing for students in the crossroads of the streets Didotou –Mavromichali street. My proposal for social housing is based on two poles the private space for the students..which is being translated in small units of living and outdoor and indoor communal spaces.Μαρία Βαλεντίνη Σαρακινιώτ
The direction of theatre of the 1970s, as Valentina Valentini writes, characterized New Theatre in Italy with its tendency to expand beyond geographic and disciplinary borders and, at the same time, with its tension towards a common core (body, gesture, movement) to «find shelter in the place of theatre like in the productions of Teatro- Immagine (as defined by Bartolucci) by Mario Ricci, Memè Perlini, Giancarlo Nanni, Giuliano Vasilicò». Memè Perlini’s work on Pirandello’s play was in fact a process of permeation, in the Latin sense of per- «through» and meare «transit». Six Characters in Search of an Author by Pirandello represented a double enlightenment for him: one that could be termed public, concerning his way of understanding the stage, the other inherent to a personal and collective unhappiness that «filled his days and nights» and which he wove into the writing of Pirandello chi?, staged for the first time in 1973, as mentioned above, at Beat ’72 in Rome. Perlini transposed the fragmentary nature typical of society at that time into what he defined as fragment-images, aimed at reducing the body of the actor on stage into sections of light and darkness, in the idiosyncratic drive to «parcel, shatter theatrical objects (fear of the body) but also a clear attempt to reconstruct them (desire to represent)»
Developing an integrated 3D-printed façade with complex geometries for active temperature control
Additive manufacturing (AM) technology is currently being investigated as possible construction method for future buildings. AM methods have advantages over other production processes, such as great freedom of form, shape complexity, scale and material use. Because the freedom in geometric complexity applies also to the inner part of the products manufactured with additive processes, it is possible to customize inner geometries to integrate multi-functionalities. Products with multiple functions integrated are interesting for the building industry not only for the multi-functionality but also for the potentials of 3d printing these components in large scale.Complexity in form and function is observed in the façade which is one of the most challenging parts of a building. Thus, an increasing interest in the application of advanced building envelope solutions can be seen both in research activities and in industrial developments.Given the potential of 3d printing technology to generate complex geometries and include multiple functionalities, there are ongoing developments towards new or improved materials, production technologies and function integration. However, the focus of most research is directed towards the mechanical properties of materials and their use as part of load-bearing and construction systems. The integration of additional aspects is often achieved with post processing and the use of multiple materials. There is an important need for research into the limits of the performances specially for thermal insulation and building physics that can be combined in one component and one production technology. Moreover, there is need for additional investigation in the maximum printable size of façade components and on the challenges and the potentials to 3d print large-scale components. To this end, the research project SPONG3D aims to develop a 3D-printed façade panel that integrates insulating properties with heat storage in a complex, mono-material geometry. The present paper gives an overview of the development process that took into consideration different aspects that the façade module needs to address and the challenges for the printing process, such as material use, printing time and scale. Those considerations and the thermal performance requirements drove the design iterations and tests and determined decisions related to the geometry and the printing technology selection. The interaction of these aspects resulted in the design and manufacturing of a prototype, which proves the potential of functions integration in such a façade, but also highlights the limitations and the need for further developments. The latest prototypes consist of 2 items. One working prototype (size: 660 mm(height)×200mm(width)×100 mm(thickness)) in which the water circulation is being tested. One prototype for demonstration (size:750 mm(height)×500mm (width)×360 mm(thickness)). At the same time, simulations were run to understand the thermal effects of the system on indoor spaces in different climates. With focus on the 3D printing process, the paper will present and discuss the results of each phase; as well as the design iteration that led to the current prototypes. Moreover, the paper will critically reflect on the challenges encountered during the research and will discuss the current limits of the work. The research was conducted during 12 months of interdisciplinary teamwork, involving researchers from the façade discipline, thermal engineering and building physics, structural design, digital design and production.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Design InformaticsDesign of ConstrutionBuilding Physic
Signatures of selection in five Italian cattle breeds detected by a 54K SNP panel
In this study we used a medium density panel of SNP markers to perform population genetic analysis in five Italian cattle breeds. The BovineSNP50 BeadChip was used to genotype a total of 2,935 bulls of Piedmontese, Marchigiana, Italian Holstein, Italian Brown and Italian Pezzata Rossa breeds. To determine a genome-wide pattern of positive selection we mapped the F ST values against genome location. The highest FST peaks were obtained on BTA6 and BTA13 where some candidate genes are located. We identified selection signatures peculiar of each breed which suggest selection for genes involved in milk or meat traits. The genetic structure was investigated by using a multidimensional scaling of the genetic distance matrix and a Bayesian approach implemented in the STRUCTURE software. The genotyping data showed a clear partitioning of the cattle genetic diversity into distinct breeds if a number of clusters equal to the number of populations were given. Assuming a lower number of clusters beef breeds group together. Both methods showed all five breeds separated in well defined clusters and the Bayesian approach assigned individuals to the breed of origin. The work is of interest not only because it enriches the knowledge on the process of evolution but also because the results generated could have implications for selective breeding programs. © The Author(s) 2014
A literature review on prevention and management of food waste in Latin America
schematizza i risultati e identifica i fattori trainanti e le barriere all'implementazione
Every year, an astonishing one-third of the food produced for human consumption,
corresponding to 1.3 billion tons, is loss or wasted. This emphasizes a moral paradox, especially when considering the 768 million people worldwide experiencing
undernourishment (Gustavsson et al., 2011). In response, this report provides a
comprehensive literature review that examines Surplus Food and Food Waste
(SFFW) in Latin America, with a particular focus on prevention and management
findings and practices. Through meticulous analysis and categorization, the 17
selected articles have been grouped into five distinct fields based on their objectives.
They are further classified as either prevention or management approaches for
SFFW. Additionally, the report details the findings and identifies the drivers and
barriers for implementation as highlighted by each author. It also sheds light on
future research areas suggested by the sources. Common research gaps and trends
within the reviewed literature are then identified, laying the groundwork for future
developments. Overall, this report serves as a valuable resource for researchers,
decision-makers, and stakeholders interested in delving into the existing body of
literature on SFFW in the Latin American context
Matching higher education and labour market in the knowledge economy: the much needed reform of university governance in Italy
In the knowledge economy and current public finance constraints, matching higher education and labour market is not one of the main issues in higher education policy sustainability: it is “the issue”. Being universities’ sources of funding almost entirely domestic and in most countries primarily governmental, politicians are expected to ensure that the increasing public investment in higher education is justified by the fact that the benefits are captured by domestic workers and investors. In doing so they must avoid disrupting the international and free community of scholars and students pursuing knowledge, killing the goose that laid the golden eggs for so long. The European debate and frontiers of research concerning the interactions between universities and labour markets are analyzed. The much needed reform of university governance in Italy is evaluated in its premises and implications for the matching of higher education and labour market.higher education, university, knowledge economy, labour market, governance, new managerialism
Adherence to international guidelines for the treatment of invasive aspergillosis in acute myeloid leukaemia: Feasibility and utility (SEIFEM-2008B study)
Objectives and methods: In order to assess physicians' compliance with international guidelines for the targeted treatment of invasive aspergillosis, 136 patients with acute myeloid leukaemia and proven/probable invasive aspergillosis were analysed. Results: Compliance with Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) and European Conference on Infections in Leukaemia (ECIL) guidelines was found to be relatively low (28% for ECIL and 55% for IDSA), although no significant differences were found between the two groups (adherence versus non-adherence). In both subgroup analyses (IDSA and ECIL), compliance with the guidelines did not impact the 120 day survival rate. Instead, adherence to guidelines led to a higher response rate to first-line antifungal treatment (76% in the IDSA group and 84% in the ECIL group). Conclusions: Guidelines establish categories of patients with homogeneous characteristics, and suggest optimal diagnostic and therapeutic options for them. Acquisition of good results through adherence to guidelines is confirmed by our series. Unfortunately, there are frequently reasons to deviate from these general recommendations, particularly in patients with acute myeloid leukaemia. Despite evidence-based recommendations, adherence to the guidelines does not constitute the best therapeutic choice in each and every patient. Subjects' clinical conditions and co-morbidities vary widely, and sometimes render the 'recommended' drug a non-applicable strategy. © The Author 2010.
[resumo fornecido pelo autor]This dissertation critically analyzes the idea of text used for teaching literacy to students in the first year of Elementary School, investigating the text's scholastic functions and social and writing practices according to legislation regarding education. Through this analysis, the following research aims to motivate its reader to reflect upon the type of text used in the classroom with children who are developing literacy skills. The methodology used for this research is based on the childhood memories of a literacy teacher who was raised by her grandfather, who could not read nor write. He helped guide this research by inspiring this literacy teacher/researcher to create three guidances, being: I) locate in legislation and didactic material the idea of text for its scholastic function; II) locate in legislation and didactic material the idea of text as a social practice; III) locate the idea of the text created by writing. The third guidance proposes an expansion of the possibilities of a text which is done by reading through writing and writing through reading, those practices being intersected by life experiences. This study consists of theories by multiple renowned authors in the area of Pedagogy, including Maria do Rosário Longo Mortatti, and features the ideas of French author Roland Barthes as an introduction to the section about literacy. Development and prototyping of an integrated 3D-printed façade for thermal regulation in complex geometries
Currently, several research projects investigate Additive Manufacturing (AM) technology as a possible construction method for future buildings. AM methods have some advantages over other production processes, such as great freedom of form, shape complexity, scale, and material use. These characteristics are relevant for façade applications, which demand the integration of several functions. Given the established capacity of AM to generate complex geometries, most existing research focuses on mechanical material properties and mainly in relation to the load-bearing capacity and the construction system. The integration of additional aspects is often achieved with post processing and the use of multiple materials. Research is needed to investigate properties for insulation, thermal storage, and energy harvesting, combined in one component and one production technology. To this end. the research project "SPONG3D' aimed at developing a 3D-printed façade panel that integrates insulating properties with heat storage in a complex, mono-material geometry. This paper gives an overview of the panel development process, including aspects of material selection, printing process, structural properties, energy performance, and thermal heat storage. The development process was guided by experiments and simulations and resulted in the design and manufacturing of a full-scale façade element prototype using FDM printing with PETG. The project proved the possibility of the integration of functions in 3D-printed façades, but also highlighted the limitations and the need for further developments
