    No full text
This article presents a new non-isolated DC-DC sextuple output hybrid triad converter configurations for high step-up renewable energy applications. Total 8 (eight) converters configurations are obtained by combining SEPIC/SI-SEPIC, Cuk/SI-Cuk, and Boost/SI-Boost which is highly suitable for step-up renewable applications where DC-DC multi-output converters/choppers are needed; such as a solar multilevel DC-AC converter (MLI), HVDC, hybrid/electric and electric vehicles. The most important characteristics of the proposed converter configurations are (i) only one power control semiconductor switch, (ii) offer six different DC outputs with different conversion ratio, (iii) non-isolated (without transformers) Converter topologies, (iv) high voltage at the output side without using large duty cycle and (v) modular DC-DC converter structure. The simulation results are presented and it validates the practicability, functionality, and the idea of suggested sextuple output hybrid triad converter configuration

A comprehensive analysis and hardware implementation of control strategies for high output voltage DC-DC boost power converter

Abstract: Classical DC-DC converters used in high voltage direct current (HVDC) power transmission systems, lack in terms of efficiency, reduced transfer gain and increased cost with sensor (voltage/current) numbers. Besides, the internal self-parasitic behavior of the power components reduces the output voltage and efficiency of classical HV converters. This paper deals with extra high-voltage (EHV) dc-dc boost converter by the application of voltage-lift technique to overcome the aforementioned deficiencies. The control strategy is based on classical proportional-integral (P-I) and fuzzy logic closed-loop controller to get high and stable output voltage. Complete hardware prototype of EHV is implemented and experimental tasks are carried out with digital signal processor (DSP) TMS320F2812. The control algorithms P-I, fuzzy logic and the pulse-width modulation (PWM) signals for N-channel MOSFET device are performed by the DSP. The experimental results provided show good conformity with developed hypothetical predictions. Additionally, the presented study confirms that the fuzzy logic controller provides better performance than classical P-I controller under different perturbation conditions

Power sharing algorithm for vector controlled six-phase AC motor with four customary three-phase voltage source inverter drive

This paper considered a six-phase (asymmetrical) induction motor, kept 30° phase displacement between two set of three-phase open-end stator windings configuration. The drive system consists of four classical three-phase voltage inverters (VSIs) and all four dc sources are deliberately kept isolated. Therefore, zero-sequence/homopolar current components cannot flow. The original and effective power sharing algorithm is proposed in this paper with three variables (degree of freedom) based on synchronous field oriented control (FOC). A standard three-level space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) by nearest three vectors (NTVs) approach is adopted to regulate each couple of VSIs. The proposed power sharing algorithm is verified by complete numerical simulation modeling (Matlab/Simulink-PLECS software) of whole ac drive system by observing the dynamic behaviors in different designed condition. Set of results are provided in this paper, which confirms a good agreement with theoretical development

Introduction to AI Techniques for Renewable Energy System

    No full text
This book helps the undergraduate, graduate students and Academician to learn the concept of Artificial Intelligence techniques used in renewal energy with suitable real-life examples. Artificial intelligence (AI) techniques play an essential role in modeling, analysis, and prediction of the performance and control of renewable energy. The algorithms used to model, control, or predict performances of the energy systems are complicated involving differential equations, enormous computing power, and time requirements. Instead of complex rules and mathematical routines, AI techniques can learn critical information patterns within a multidimensional information domain. Design, control, and operation of renewable energy systems require a long-term series of meteorological data such as solar radiation, temperature, or wind data. Such long-term measurements are often non-existent for most of the interest locations or, wherever they are available, they suffer from several shortcomings (e.g. inferior quality of data, in-sufficient long series, etc.). For overcoming these problems, AI techniques appear to be one of the most substantial parts of the book. The book summarizes commonly used AI methodologies in renewal energy, with a particular emphasis on neural networks, fuzzy logic, and genetic algorithms. Book outlines selected AI applications for renewable energy. In particular, discusses methods using the AI approach for the following applications using suitable examples: prediction and modeling of solar radiation, seizing, performances, and controls of the solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.Key selling Features:The impact of the proposed book is to provide a significant area of concern to develop a foundation for the implementation process renewable energy system with intelligent techniques. The researchers working on a renewable energy system can correlate their work with intelligent and machine learning approaches. To make aware of the international standards for intelligent renewable energy systems design, reliability and maintenance. To give better incites of the solar cell, biofuels, wind and other renewable energy system design and characterization, including the equipment for smart energy systems

Fault Detection and Isolation in Electric Vehicle Powertrain

The powertrain of an electric vehicle (EV) consists mainly of the battery, electric motor and power electronics. The safe and reliable operation of the electric vehicle depends on their fault-free operation. Fault detection and isolation methods work on the premise that small changes as a result of faults affecting a system causes variation in its operational response. This property can be used for the detection of such faults and their severity. This chapter discusses methods for detection and isolation of faults in electric vehicle powertrain components. Powertrain configuration and technologies are identified. Battery technology such as Lithium-ion batteries have gained a significant application as energy storage source in electric vehicles due to their high energy and power density, long lifespan, and low self-discharge performance under extreme temperatures. Model-based approaches are discussed for the determination of battery state of charge, state of health and effect of accelerated degradation. Fault detection in electric motor is considered. Brushless asynchronous induction motor, brushed externally excited synchronous motor and brushless permanent magnet synchronous motor are the options adopted for the electric vehicle powertrain. Signal processing-based approach such as the motor current signature analysis is explored for detection of broken rotor bar, shorten stator windings, air gap eccentricity, bearing failure and load variation effects. Lastly, fault detection in power electronics is explored. Electric vehicle electric components need complex electronics to control them. These come in the form of a power electronics module (PEM), and an inverter, which can be integral with the PEM or the electric motor itself. Inverters provide the interface between an alternating current electric component and the direct current battery. The current focus for electric vehicle power electronics is controllable solid-state switches such as insulated gate bipolar transistor. For these power drives, the major faults are: open switch fault and short switch fault. Signal processing-based approached are considered for detection of these fault

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
