    Alhamdulillah, the fourth edition of ebook under SIG of e-Learning@CS has been successfully published. Representing the editorial board, I want to express my appreciation to all authors for their participation in this e-book edition. I wish to express my sincere appreciation to Madam Norazah Umar, the Program Coordinator for the Department of Computer and Mathematical Sciences (JSKM) who has given words of encouragement in making this publication a reality. Starting from 2022, the committee of SIG e-Learning@CS has decided to publish this eBook twice a year. This e-book will be published in April and October each year following the evaluation period of MyATP 2.0 system. The fourth edition of the e-book focuses on innovation in teaching. The authors are encouraged to share experiences and ideas that have been applied and implemented since the Open Distance Learning (ODL) approach was introduced during Movement Controls Orders (MCO). A total of 16 papers have been submitted by JSKM lecturers and varieties of teaching innovations have been elaborated and well explained by the author

    Comparison of Tooth Size Discrepancy of Three Main Ethnics in Malaysia with Bolton's Ratio

    The objective of this study was to investigate the applicability of Bolton's ratios in orthodontic population of Malaysian main ethnics; Malay, Chinese and Indians. Ninety convenient samples consisting of 30 pre-orthodontic study casts from each ethnic that fits the inclusion criteria were selected. The greatest mesiodistal widths of each tooth from six to six for overall ratio and three to three for anterior ratio were measured using a digital callipers linked to Hamilton Arch Tooth System software to the nearest 0.01mm. Means of the ratios were calculated using Bolton analysis. One sample t-test statistic analysis was carried out to compare the means with Bolton values of anterior ratio and overall ratio and one-way ANOVA was used to analyze comparison between ethnic groups of the anterior ratio and the overall ratio with the level of statistical significance set at p < 0.05. However, there were no significant differences when comparing Bolton values with Chinese and Indian anterior and overall ratios. The Bolton standards could be applied to Malaysian Chinese, Indians and Malay's female. Ao início, acrescentamos uma breve apresentação da autora e do conto, além de comentários sobre decisões tradutórias referentes a características que criam a atmosfera de suspense e estranhamento.This article consists of a translation, from Arabic to Portuguese, of the short story Naḍra lahā ’aṣābi‘ (“The fingers of the gaze”) by Kuwaiti author Leila Othman. At the beginning, a brief presentation of both the author and the short story was added, as well as comments on translational decisions regarding characteristics which create the atmosphere of suspense and strangeness

    A Matheuristic Approach for Delivery Planning and Dynamic Vehicle Routing in Logistics 4.0

    In distribution logistics, the planning of vehicles’ routes and vehicles’ loads are traditionally managed separately, despite these activities are correlated. This often leads to various re-designs to make the routes and load plans compatible and applicable in practice. Moreover, the planned routes, which are static by definition, cannot always cope with unexpected events. Traffic congestion, vehicle failures, adverse meteorological conditions, and further undesired events can make the planned routes inapplicable and require vehicles’ re-routing. This results in lower service levels, undesired delays, and higher costs for logistics companies. With the aim of overcoming the above limitations, this work proposes a novel approach based on a matheuristic algorithm that jointly solves the problem of delivery planning and dynamic vehicle routing to automate the delivery process in a logistics 4.0 perspective. The presented algorithm includes two different phases: the static phase, which is executed offline and in advance with respect to the delivery day, and the dynamic phase, which is executed in real-time to cope with unexpected events during the delivery. For the first phase, a matheuristic approach is defined to efficiently solve the combined vehicle routing and loading problems. Differently, for the second phase, a genetic algorithm is proposed to re-route vehicles in real-time, considering both the redefinition in real-time of the nominal trip and/or of the sequence of the customers to be visited. The algorithm is tested both on a literature benchmark and on a real dataset provided by an Italian logistics company. The obtained results show that, on the one hand, the proposed algorithm can automatically provide feasible solutions that minimise travel costs, total travelled distance, and empty space on the vehicles; on the other hand, it can ensure in real-time effective re-routing solutions in case of unexpected events occurring during delivery. Note to Practitioners—This work is motivated by the need for facilitating the operations of planning and routing deliveries in the external logistics sector. We propose an algorithm that automatically generates feasible routing and loading plans for a set of Transport Units (TUs) (i.e., the static phase), and then updates in real-time the nominal route in case of unexpected events (i.e., the dynamic phase). More specifically, the first phase of the algorithm takes as input the set of different clients, the list of products packed into bins (i.e., standard packing units) to be delivered to each client, and the set of transport units available for the deliveries, and provides as output the number and type of TUs to be used, the composition of the bins in each transport unit, and the corresponding route, while optimising the space occupation in each TU and the travel costs. The second phase, instead, takes as input the nominal routes computed in the first phase and, in case of unexpected events (e.g., accidents, slowdowns, etc.) affecting one or more routes, it re-routes the involved trucks guaranteeing the maximum efficiency in regards to travel cost, travel time, and quality of service. The adoption of this algorithm by logistic companies supports the automation of the delivery process and drastically improves the efficiency of logistic operations, with particular regard to the number of used TUs, costs, safety of goods, and customers’ satisfaction

    His-tag effect on biochemical properties of B. subtilis US572 a-amylase produced in E. coli: application of the recombinant enzyme in breadmaking

    The gene encoding Bacillus subtilis α-amylase was cloned into pET-21a (+). The expression level of the recombinant enzyme is 10.7-fold higher than the expression level of the native one (0.13 mg mL-1). The recombinant enzyme (His6-rAmyKS) was purified in one step using Ni-NTA column affinity with a specific activity of 664.28 U.mg-1. The biochemical properties of the His6-rAmyKS were determined and compared to those of the non-tagged enzyme. Interestingly, differences were found between the two enzymes mainly for the optimal temperature and pH. Experiment tests and molecular modeling confirmed that the extra residues (C-terminal His-tag fusion peptide and cleavage thrombin site) could be responsible for the slight increase in total activity and the improvement of biochemical properties of the His-tagged enzyme compared to the native one. The His6-rAmyKS was used as an additive in breadmaking. It showed a significant effect in improving the dough texture and the bread quality
