Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. The Vehicle Speed as an Element in the Occurrence of a Traffic Accident
U završnom radu prikazana je tematika sigurnosti cestovnog prometa na cestama u Republici Hrvatskoj s osvrtom na brzinu, kao uzrokom i elementom u nastanku prometnih nesreća. Broj smrtno stradalih osoba u Republici Hrvatskoj nekontrolirano je rastao sve dok Republika Hrvatska nije aktivno počela provoditi Nacionalni program sigurnosti cestovnog prometa, odnosno dok Vlada Republike Hrvatske nije donesla novi Zakona o sigurnosti prometa na cestama. Novi Zakon donesen je 2008. godine, a predstavljao je mnogo veće kazne za prekršitelje od prijašnjih zakona. Ta godina može se uzeti kao početak sustavnog i planiranog rada na povećanju sigurnosti u prometu, što je za posljedicu imalo osjetno smanjen broj prometnih nesreća i stradavanja. Prema statističkim podacima najveći problem sigurnosti u cestovnom prometu je nepropisna i neprilagođena brzina, koja je uzrok najvećem broju prometnih nesreća i smrtno stradalih osoba. Da bi se otklonile negativne posljedice, ili bar smanjile na minimum potrebno je sustavno i zajedničko djelovanje svih subjekata koji su zaduženi za sigurnost cestovnog prometa. Prometna nesreća je tragičan događaj, kojeg je potrebno dobro analizirati, odnosno kvalitetno obaviti očevid i prikupiti sve potrebne informacije, jer dobro obavljenim očevidom može se doći do određenih zaključaka, na temelju kojih se može dodatno usmjeriti snage i sredstva za povećanje stanja sigurnosti cestovnog prometa. Praćenjem broja prometnih nesreća prema mjestu nastanka moguće je odrediti „crne točke“ na prometnicama gdje se prometne nesreće događaju u povećanom broju, te temeljem toga vršiti pojačan nadzor brzine s ciljem smanjenja brzine i smirivanja prometa.The issues of road traffic safety in the Republic of Croatia with reference to speed as a cause and an element in the occurrence of traffic accidents is presented in the thesis. The number of deaths in Croatia was growing uncontrollably until the Republic of Croatia actively started implementing the National Road Traffic Safety Programme, that is, until the Government of the Republic of Croatia passed the new Road Traffic Safety Act. The new Act was passed in 2008 and it provided significantly higher fines for offenders than the previous acts. The year 2008 may be taken as the beginning of systematic and planned work on increasing road traffic safety, which resulted in a considerably smaller number of traffic accidents and casualties. According to statistics, the largest problem for road traffic safety is improper and unadjusted speed as the cause of the highest number of traffic accidents and deaths. Systematic and joint action of all entities responsible for road traffic safety is required to eliminate the negative consequences or at least reduce them to a minimum. A traffic accident is a tragic event that should be thoroughly analysed, that is, a quality investigation should be conducted and all the required information should be collected, because a well conducted investigation can lead to certain conclusions that can be used to further focus the efforts and resources to increase road traffic safety. By monitoring the number of traffic accidents on the basis of the place where they occur, it is possible to determine the “black spots” on roads where traffic accidents occur in greater numbers and increase speed control with the aim of reducing speed and calming the traffic

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Sigurnost i stanje mira temeljne su vrijednosti i životni prioriteti svakoga pojedinca, a možemo reći i svake zajednice čiji je takav pojedinac član. U tome smislu sigurnost možemo smatrati kao potrebu svih živih bića, te kao jedan od preduvjeta za razvoj osoba, društva i država. Sigurnost države kao zajednice ostvaruje se uključivanjem u vojno–političke saveze i udruživanja u sustave kolektivne sigurnosti, ali i oslanjanjem na vlastite snage i zaštitu imovine, sustava i podsustava koji su neophodni za održavanje vitalnih društvenih funkcija, zdravlja, sigurnosti, zaštite, gospodarske i socijalne dobrobiti ljudi. Takve sustave kolektivno nazivamo kritičnom infrastrukturom, jer poremećaj rada ili uništenje takve infrastrukture, djelovanjem prirodnih ili antropogenih utjecaja, može imati ogromne posljedice za cjelokupnu nacionalnu sigurnost, a samim time na zdravlje i živote ljudi, imovinu i okoliš, ekonomsku stabilnost i neprekidno funkcioniranje vlasti. Sigurnost kritičnih infrastruktura prioritetna je odrednica nacionalne sigurnosti, a uključuje sve dostupne aktivnosti i inicijative koje su usmjerene na poboljšanje zaštite istih. Kolektivni pristup je jedan od funkcionalnih načina zaštite kritičnih infrastruktura, a uključuje partnerstvo između nositelja javne i privatne sigurnosti, jer temeljna zadaća jednih i drugih je prije svega zaštita i sigurnost života, imovine te sprečavanja i otklanjanje opasnosti.ecurity and state of peace are fundamental values and setting priorities of every individual, and also of every community said individual takes part in. Such systems are collectively named critical infrastructure, because malfunction or destruction of such infrastructure, caused by natural or anthropogenic factors, can have major consequences on the overall national safety, and thereby affect the health and lives of people, assets, the environment, the economic stability and the constant function of authorities. The safety of critical infrastructures is the main priority of the national security, and it comprises of all accessible activities and initiatives which aim at the enhancement of protection of said factors. The collective approach is one of the functional ways of protecting critical infrastructures, and it includes the partnership between the holder of public and private security, since the fundamental task of both of them is above all the protection and safety of lives and assets, and prevention and elimination of hazards
