model updating of a masonry historical church based on operational modal analysis: the case study of San Filippo Neri in Macerata

    No full text
The paper describes the approach followed in the characterization of the structural behavior of the historical masonry church of San Filippo Neri in Macerata, severely damaged and condemned after the Central Italy Earthquake occurred in October 2016. The case study of San Filippo Neri is particularly interesting: first for the historical and artistic importance of the churchfurthermorefor the evidences of recurrent structural damage. The laboratory of Proof and Research on Structures and Materials of Roma Tre University carried out an extensive onsite testing campaign - including geometric survey, flat-jack test and ambient vibration test - in order to investigate the state of the building. Operational modal analysis was used to assess the dynamic behavior of the church; the results of the testing campaign were interpreted and correlated with an accurate finite element model of the construction. The numerical model was finally tuned up based on the experimental results in order to match the dynamic behavior. The aim of the research is to set the first steps for an integrated approach able to fit and combine the resultsfrom experimental onsite testing and numerical modelling

Covid-19 and small wineries: new challenges in distribution channel management

Purpose. The present article aims to shed light on the major challenges in distribution channel management that small wineries are called to face after the COVID-19 pandemic.Design/methodology/approach. The study is explorative by adopting a qualitative methodology to analyse the case of a small Italian winery and how it managed distribution activities during COVID-19 pandemic. The study collected data through interviews and secondary data. Results have been abductively developed.Findings. The study delves into the challenges related to managing distribution channels during crises and highlights how the omnichannel approach can support small wineries and help them overcome future crises.Practical and Social implications. The study supports small wineries in understanding how to cope major worldwide crises such as the COVID-19 through the adoption of the omnichannel approach. Originality of the study. The study provides a novel perspective on wine marketing and omnichannel approach management and how the omnichannel approach might be of support to small winery in overcoming crises such as COVID-19. This work contributes to the extant literature on small winery and distribution channel management literature by providing a novel perspective as it empirically investigates the ongoing phenomenon of the COVID-19 crisis

Outsourcing corporate heritage marketing in the omnichannel context: a process perspective of a small winery

    No full text
The pandemic crisis and the disruptive impact of digitalisation have led firms to undertake the omnichannel continuum to meet new customers’ needs for a seamless purchasing experience. A frictionless customer journey requires coherent marketing initiatives across channels. Small firms, which usually lack human and financial resources, are approaching the omnichannel paradigm through outsourcing. As a result, small businesses that recognise the importance of corporate heritage marketing (CHM) in their overall marketing strategies face challenges in maintaining the consistency of CHM initiatives across their partners’ channels. Hence, the present study proposes a case study methodology to unfold how small firms develop consistent CHM initiatives in the omnichannel partners’ channels. The findings suggest that small companies should open their CHM process to omnichannel partners to develop consistent CHM initiatives among partners’ channels

Hermann Kant. Ein bio- bibliografisches Profil

The proximity to the power apparatus has cast dark shadows on the literary work of Hermann Kant, who is regarded as one of the most read authors of the GDR. Valerio Furneri embeds Kant's life and work in the all-German context of the 20th century and reinterprets his classics such as Die Aula or Der Aufenthalt. The author does not pursue the claim to rehabilitate the GDR, nor to trivialise Kant's role in it. Instead, the attempt is made to look at Kant's entire work from a temporal distance and to re-evaluate it. Through his works, Kant was able to accompany and depict not only the German-German history, but also European history.

Knowledge-based dynamic capabilities for managing paradoxical tensions in circular business model innovation: an empirical exploration of an incumbent firm

    No full text
Purpose This paper aims to gain insights into the paradoxical tensions emerging from circular business model innovation (CBMI) and how to overcome them by developing a theoretical framework drawing on two theoretical streams: firstly, the paradox theory for shedding light on the often “invisible” contradictions generated by the implementation of circular economy (CE) principles in business model transformation; and secondly, the dynamic capability theory that can contribute to the investigation of how to manage these contradictions. Design/methodology/approach The study uses a longitudinal case study approach to gain an in-depth understanding of the transformation and challenges faced by an incumbent firm in adopting a circular business model. Qualitative research methods are used to explore the paradoxical tensions and dynamic capabilities involved in the process. Findings The study finds that incumbent firms face numerous challenges and paradoxical tensions in the CBMI process. These tensions arise from difficulties in implementing organizational changes, balancing competing priorities and managing conflicting goals. Dynamic capabilities are crucial in managing these tensions and facilitating the transition to a circular business model. Research limitations/implications This paper contributes to the theoretical development of paradox theory by applying it to the new field of CBMI which is currently slightly investigated and responds to the call for studies looking at more fine-grained types of sustainable business models. The study adds to previous literature that how the firm handles paradoxes and tensions influences the pace and results of the process. If the firm becomes discouraged during the early stages of identifying new opportunities, the pace slows down, and the firm becomes hesitant to collaborate more with partners. Furthermore, the ability to capitalize on these opportunities is affected by these tensions and contradictions. Originality/value This paper contributes to the literature by empirically investigating the process of CBMI in incumbent firms. It fills the gap in existing research by examining the existence of paradoxical tensions in a real-life setting and exploring the role of dynamic capabilities in managing these tensions. The findings provide practical insights for firms seeking a transition towards a CE and highlight that the ability to sense the external context should be developed as the new business model entails a central role of external actor
