    Opinnäytetyöni tarkoituksena oli käsikirjoittamani opetuksellisen Saari 42: Gismologia -seikkailupelin viihteellistäminen. Tämän toteutin tarkastelemalla elektronisten pelien viihteellisyyttä ja opetuksellisuutta suhteessa Saari 42: Gismologia -pelin käsikirjoitukseen. Lisäksi tutkin elektronisten pelien lajityyppejä, erityisesti seikkailupelilajityyppiä. Ensiksi esittelen Saari 42: Gismologia -pelin lyhyesti. Tämän jälkeen käsittelen teoriaa elektronisista peleistä yleisesti ja vuorovaikutteisuuden mukaan luokiteltavia lajityyppejä. Esittelen myös pelien viihteellisyyttä ja pelien opetuksellisuutta. Sitten käsittelen seikkailupelejä tarkemmin. Tämän jälkeen tutkin opetuksellisen Saari 42: Gismologia -pelin viihteellistämistä liitteenä olevan käsikirjoituksen avulla. Lopuksi pohdin havaintojani opetuksellisen seikkailupelin viihteellistämisestä. Pelin maailman tulee olla yhtenäinen kokonaisuus. Kaikkien pelissä olevien toimintojen, esimerkiksi työllistymistaitojen kehittämisen, tulee olla perusteltavissa pelin maailmaan sopivalla tavalla. Jos opetuksellisuus ei ole esitetty pelin maailman keinoin, pelaajan pelikokemus rikkoontuu.The purpose of this thesis was to increase the entertainment value of the educational game of Island 42: Gismology. This was carried out by examining the entertainment value of video games and the educational sides of video games. Then I examined the manuscript of Island 42: Gismology by using these two theories. In addition I examined video game genres, especially the adventure game genre. The second chapter will present Island 42: Gismology briefly. The third section discuss-es the theory of video games and interactive genres for classifying video games. The fourth chapter is about the entertainment value of video games. The fifth chapter will present the educational sides of video games. The sixth chapter focuses more on ad-venture games. The seventh chapter is about increasing the entertainment value of the educational game of Island 42: Gismology. Finally, I present my findings. The game world should be a unified whole. All the functions of the game must be justi-fied by the game world. If the educational side does not fit in with the game world the player`s experience will be broken

    Diffusive author(s), cohesive author: Analysis of S/N (1994)

    This study indicates the ways in which various aspects of the author(s) are brought forth in Dumb type’s performance art, the S/N production. Previous research has suggested a non-hierarchical organization of Dumb type and the absence of a “privileged author” in Dumb type’s collaborative work, S/N. However, the results that I have investigated from member’s interviews on the creative process of S/N along with my analysis of the recorded images of S/N, indicate a different aspect of the author(s). First, S/N was created through, so to speak, the collective ideas of the members of Dumb type. Further, S/N has at least nine quotations from previous performances, installations, and printed writings, besides the work-in-progress technique. Explicating one of the “author functions” as given by Michel Foucault, each text has plural subjects of the author. However, it has been revealed from members’ interviews that Teiji Furuhashi had a decision-making role in selecting the members’ ideas within the performance. Since then, S/N has had plural subjects of creation; however, Furuhashi is one of the subjects of creation along with the “privileged author.” S/N has plural authors (diffusive authors) yet at the same time, it has a “privileged author,” Teiji Furuhashi (cohesive author)

    In the N-body problem, it is a simple observation that relative equilibria (planar solutions for which the mutual distances between the particles remain constant) have constant moment of inertia. In 1970, Don Saari conjectured that the converse was true: if a solution to the N-body problem has constant moment of inertia, then it must be a relative equilibrium.     Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     A Self-Consistent Method to Assess Air Quality Co-Benefits from US Climate Policies

    Air quality co-benefits can potentially reduce the costs of greenhouse gas mitigation. However, while many studies of the cost of greenhouse gas mitigation model the full macroeconomic welfare impacts, most studies of air quality co-benefits do not. We employ a US computable general equilibrium economic model previously linked to an air quality modeling system, and enhance it to represent the economy-wide welfare impacts of fine particulate matter. We present a first application of this method to explore the efficiency and the distributional implications of a clean energy standard (CES) and a cap–and–trade (CAT) program that both reduce CO2 emission by 10% in 2030 relative to 2006. We find that co-benefits from fine particulate matter reduction completely offset policy costs by 110% (40% to 190%), transforming the net welfare impact of the CAT into a gain of 1(1 (-5 to 7)billion2005US7) billion 2005 US. For the CES, the corresponding co-benefit (median 8;8; 3 to $14)/tCO2 is a smaller fraction (median 5%; 2% to 9%) of its higher policy cost. The eastern US garners 78% and 71% of co-benefits for the CES and CAT, respectively. By representing the effects of pollution-related morbidities and mortalities as an impact to labor and the demand for health services, we find that the welfare impact per unit of reduced pollution varies by region. These interregional differences can enhance the preference of some regions, like Texas, for a CAT over a CES, or switch the calculation of which policy yields higher co-benefits, compared to an approach that uses one valuation for all regions.
