The work begins with an analysis of her essays along her writing experience. Based upon the ethical perspective, formulated by Berman and other scholars, it analyses some of the translation most important textual elements to discuss the faced problems and the proposed solutions in the translation process

I am (not) my avatar: A review of the user-avatar relationships in Massively Multiplayer Online Worlds

    No full text
Literature currently presents many studies on the self in the context of Massively Multiplayer Online Worlds, many of which have explored both the self of the user (offline self) and the avatar (online self). Nevertheless, a review of the results obtained by these studies has never been conducted until now. The present work aimed to fill this gap, analysing forty-three empirical studies with the specific purpose of detecting the kinds of user-avatar relationship that have been identified by literature and of exploring how these kinds of relationship are related to other psychological variables, e.g. game addiction. Results showed that literature explored the user-avatar relationship by investigating four self-dimensions (i.e., physical aspects, self-concept, self-needs, and identifications). Two kinds of user-avatar relationships recurred more frequently: actualisation and idealisation, of which, considering the correlations with other variables, idealization appears to be riskier. The theoretical contribution and practical applications of this work are discussed

    F. Casadei, "Metafore ed espressioni idiomatiche. Uno studio semantico sull'italiano".

    No full text

    No full text

    Deutsche Pseudoanglizismen

    No full text
Pseudo-anglicisms in German appear like borrowings from English but originate in German word formation. They also include English borrowings with different meanings in German or which have developed additional meanings. This corpus-based study of German pseudo-anglicisms is based on the entries of the Neologismenwörterbuch in OWID. It records the meaning of the pseudo-anglicisms and their appropriate English expressions and lists morphological aspects of the formations. The study uses DeReKo (the German reference corpus) to determine whether lexical units that originated before the 2010s are still in use or whether English terms have replaced them

Visualisation of Collective Systems with Sequit and Sibilla

    No full text
The analysis of Collective Systems involves the usage of several tools and techniques for addressing the different intricacies typical of this kind of system. One of these techniques is the simulation that, starting from a quantitative model of the system under analysis, is used to generate a set of possible computations. Typically, these data are used to perform statistical analyses and to infer performance measure. However, being able to represent results in an effective manner is crucial to help users to understand the meaning of collected simulation data. In this paper, we introduce Sequit a tool that, integrated with Sibilla, permits rendering in a 2D or 3D environment the evolution of a set of agents. A simple example, based on a flock behaviour, is used in the paper to show the use of Sibilla and Sequit

Harmonious and obsessive involvement, self-esteem, and well-being. a longitudinal study on mmorpg players

    No full text
Starting from the dualistic model of passion by Vallerand and colleagues (2003), this study aimed to identify "obsessive" and "harmonious" involvements in MMORPGs and to verify their relationships with players' self-esteem and well-being. An international sample of 147 MMORPG players participated in a longitudinal design filling out for 3 times an online questionnaire measuring game involvement (in terms of Internet Gaming Disorder [IGD] symptoms, time spent playing the video game, sense of presence while playing, and avatar identification), global self-esteem, and well-being (i.e., meaningful life, engaged life, and pleasant life). Results supported the presence of these two different types of involvement: Obsessive involvement, characterized by a close association between IGD symptoms and playing time; Harmonious involvement, characterized by a close association between presence, avatar identification, and IGD symptoms. Cross-lagged effects showed that, over time, low self-esteem and low meaningful life predicted obsessive involvement, which in turn predicted engaged life. The present study contributes to a better understanding of the effects between video games use and the users' self-esteem and well-being. Furthermore, it contributes to the theoretical debate about problematic involvement in videogames, also providing some indications about problematic gaming assessment and prevention
