Concrete method for recovering the Euler characteristic of quantum graphs
Trace formulas play a central role in the study of spectral geometry and in particular of quantum graphs. The basis of our work is the result by Kurasov which links the Euler characteristic chi of metric graphs to the spectrum of their standard Laplacian. These ideas were shown to be applicable even in an experimental context where only a finite number of eigenvalues from a physical realization of quantum graph can be measured. In the present work we analyse sufficient hypotheses which guarantee the successful recovery of chi. We also study how to improve the efficiency of the method and in particular how to minimise the number of eigenvalues required. Finally, we compare our findings with numerical examples-surprisingly, just a few dozens of eigenvalues can be enough

The Dagradi-Serio-Iacono operation central pancreatectomy
Central pancreatectomy (CP) is a segmental pancreatic resection indicated to remove benign or low-grade malignant
tumors of the isthmus and proximal part of the body of the pancreas. The main advantage of this operation compared with major
resections is that it permits to spare normal pancreatic parenchyma;moreover, spleen and upper digestive and biliary tracts are saved.
The description of the complete operation was reported for the first time by Dagradi and Serio in 1984 and subsequently spread
worldwide by Iacono and Serio. In our opinion, it should be called the Dagradi–Serio–Iacono operation, by the names of the
surgeons who first performed it (Dagradi and Serio), and by the names of the surgeons responsible for reporting it worldwide
with precise indications (Iacono and Serio). Operation requires a midline or a bilateral subcostal incision; the lesser sac is entered
through dissection of the transverse colon from the omentum or by transecting the gastrocolic ligament. The pancreatic segment
harboring the lesion is then mobilized and its posterior surface carefully dissected from the splenic vein and artery. Subsequently,
the pancreatic portion harboring the tumor is isolated at its superior margin from the splenic artery after the pancreas is transacted.
The extent of the resection of the central segment is limited on the right by the gastroduodenal artery and on the left by the need
to leave at least 5 cm of normal pancreatic remnant. The resected pancreatic specimen is sent to the pathologist for confirmation
of diagnosis and to check if the resection margins are adequate. Hemostasis of the two raw surfaces is achieved with interrupted 5
or 4/0 nonabsorbable stitches. When it is not stapled, theWirsung’s duct of the cephalic stump is sutured selectively with a figureof-
eight nonabsorbable stitch. An end-to-end invaginated pancreaticojejunostomy is carried out with a single layer of interrupted
stitches. The operation is concluded with the construction of an end-to-side jejuno-jejunostomy about 50 cm distal to the
pancreatic anastomosis. Other techniques for reconstruction of the distal stump using jejunum or stomach have been described.
One or two soft drains are brought out on the right side. The fluid collected from this drain is checked for amylase level on
postoperative days 3, 5, and 7; if the level is low or absent, the drain is removed. Central pancreatectomy is a safe technique for
benign or low malignant tumors of the pancreatic neck that allows curing the tumor with evident functional results without
increasing the risk for the patient. We can say that CP has a clear role like pancreaticoduodenectomy and distal pancreatectomy
and we think that a pancreatic surgeon has to include this procedure in his/her technical skills. In order to obtain excellent results,
correct indications and experience in pancreatic surgery are recommended
The Lettere of Andrea Calmo: authorial artifices and historical reality
Despite Vittorio Rossi's 1888 edition, Andrea Calmo's collection of "ingegnosi cheribizzi" and "fantastiche fantasie" is still shrouded in a certain mystery. The author, dissimulating his own identity behind the "mask" of the humble Venetian fisherman, was able to offer a cross-section of culture and society in sixteenth-century Venice.
In particular, it is the fourth book of the Letters that has aroused greater interest among scholars and readers: published in 1566, several years after the first three, this book stands out for the fact that all the epistles are addressed to women imaginary or actually existed.
Here we propose, first of all, a study of Calmo's biography accompanied by an analysis of the historical-cultural context of sixteenth-century Venice; secondly, however, a commentary on some letters from the last book of Calmo's work is proposed, which seeks to shed light mainly on the linguistic and content aspect of the text
Low-cost flights and changes in tourism flows: evidence from Bergamo-Orio Al Serio International Airport
The airport of Bergamo, located at Orio al Serio, 5 km, from the centre city, is the third airport of Milano, the fourth Italian airport in term of passengers and it’s totally characterized by low cost flights. Since 2002 it was the real driving force of the tourist development of the area of Bergamo, which in ten years has doubled its tourist arrivals. But some factors in this period modified the origins more times and consequently the features and the behaviors of the tourists arriving at Bergamo. Mainly: The exchange rate of some currencies with Euro; The economic crisis, that limited flows from some countries; The policies of flights carriers that change frequently connections, also because of the trend of demand
The effect has been a continuous evolution of the segments of the tourist market for the area that implied a different spending capacity too. The paper will treat and show this evolution and its motivations and will consider the implication on the policies of the local Tourism Board to support tourism in the area
Trusted Tales: Creating Authenticity in Literary Representations from Ex-Yugoslavia
This research deals with questions of authority and authenticity and how they are expressed, constructed, and appropriated within the Anglophone book market. It considers the body of literature written about ex-Yugoslavia since the 1990s Balkan conflicts by exiled writers from the region which has entered the international literary canon. Books’ routes from original publishers into English translation are discussed through practices of trust, one of the crucial social devices underpinning their exchange. Within these cross-cultural processes, the role of cultural brokers is crucial. Symbolic and cultural resources are specifically mobilised through their powerful author brands.
By exploring authenticity in the context of book publishing, I further look at how ideas and practices of community are employed and negotiated by writers and those who promote their books. My field is multi-sited and fluid, reflecting how different individual and national positions are enacted and performed through strategies ranging from unconscious dispositions to deliberate intentions. This research thus brings together ideas of the author as an authentic, representative voice together with exile as a position that grants them a new lease of relevancy in the post-socialist context.
Although ex-Yugoslav books occupy a ‘high end’ niche of the UK market, constrained by commercial as well as political, cultural, and institutional forces, in public discourse ideas of the ‘free market’ and ‘free speech’ are mobilised to produce various types of modernisation narratives. The (post)socialist production of literature is perceived as having to ‘evolve’ into a capitalist model: this would allow not only healthy competition and consumer choice but guarantee an individual writer ‘free speech’ as a basic human right. Therefore, the most general question this research raises is what kind of foreign literature gets translated into English, under what socio-cultural conditions and which politics of representation it serves within the project of world literature
