Enzymatic functions and mycoparasitism vs sclerotia in Trichoderma
The mycoparasitic activity of Trichoderma spp. against sclerotial phytopathogenic fungi is a powerful tool for a biocontrol agent, since these highly resistant vegetative structures represent the pathogen primary survival form in soil.
Parasitic interactions established by Trichoderma against sclerotial fungi have been mainly investigated by histological and biochemical analysis. Several enzymatic activities have been related to sclerotia mycoparasitism, such as enzymes degrading cell wall components (chitinase, cellulase) or phenolic compounds (laccase, lignin and melanin degrading enzymes), protease and lipase.
The availability of a T. virens isolate (I10) transformed with genes coding for fluorescent proteins, red (I10DsRed) and green (I10GFP), allowed to monitor Trichoderma as antagonist in natural environments (1) and to follow in vitro sclerotia colonisation of Sclerotium rolfsii and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (2).
The present work aims to identify enzymatic activities related to the mycoparasitic ability by a genetic approach. Mutants of I10DsRed and I10GFP were selected for specific functions in order to evaluate their sclerotia colonisation ability. S. sclerotiorum and Botrytis cinerea were used as phytopathogenic sclerotia producing fungi. Mutants were screened for cellulases, chitinases, lipases, proteases and laccases activities; the correlation between defective traits and sclerotia colonisation is under investigation.

Robin-Robin preconditioned Krylov methods for fluid-structure interaction problems
In this work, we propose a Robin–Robin preconditioner combined with Krylov iterations for the solution of the interface system arising in fluid–structure interaction (FSI) problems. It can be seen as a partitioned FSI procedure and in this respect it generalizes the ideas introduced in [S. Badia, F. Nobile, C. Vergara, J. Comput. Phys. 227 (2008) 7027–7051]. We analyze the convergence of GMRES iterations with the Robin–Robin preconditioner on a model problem and compare its efficiency with some existing algorithms. The method is shown to be very efficient for many challenging fluid–structure interaction problems, such as those characterized by a large added-mass effect or by enclosed fluids. In particular, the possibility to solve balloon-type problems without any special treatment makes this algorithm very appealing compared to the computationally intensive existing approache
Sobre a formação e o acesso a acervos de arte contemporânea: o caso do Ateliê Carlos Vergara
The institutionalization of artists’ private estates isn’t a recent phenomenon, but this is a process that has been accelerated in the last 30 years. The social transformations brought by the result of the establishment of a global economic order have created new rules in the universe of cultural organizations. This work is the result of a research on institutions that administrate contemporary artists´ estates. The idea was to establish the basis for the constitution of a simila institution – the Ateliê Carlos Vergara. The theme was explored on the basis of interviews with five Brazilian artists and of an analysis of Carlos Vergara´s career and studio. Some issues related to the organization and preservation of the works, to the sustainability of the institutions and to the role of the heirs in the administration of the organizations, as well as the coherence of these initiatives with the principles of the artists are discussed in this text.
An approximate method for solving incompressible Navier-Stokes problem with flow rate conditions
We consider the incompressible Navier–Stokes problem with flow rate boundary conditions. This problem has been investigated in [J. Heywood, R. Rannacher, S. Turek, Artificial boundaries and flux and pressure conditions for the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations, Int. J. Numer. Methods Fluids 22 (1996) 325–352; L. Formaggia, J. F. Gerbeau, F. Nobile, A. Quarteroni, Numerical treatment of defective boundary conditions for the Navier–Stokes equation, SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 40(1) (2002) 376–401; A. Veneziani, C. Vergara, Flow rate defective boundary conditions in haemodynamics simulations, Int. J. Numer. Methods Fluids 47 (2005) 803–816]. In the latter two papers, a feasible numerical formulation of this problem, based on a Lagrange multiplier approach has been investigated. This approach has the drawback of high computational costs. In this paper, we propose an approximate formulation of this problem, yielding a strong reduction of the computational costs. The error analysis shows that the error introduced by this approximate formulation is confined in a small region of the boundary. This is confirmed by the numerical simulations
